Multi-objective optimization design of bridge piers with hybrid heuristic algorithms

this paper describes one approach to the design of reinforced concrete (RC) bridge piers, using a three-hybrid multi- objective simulated annealing (SA) algorithm with a neighborhood move based on the mutation operator from the genetic algorithms (GAs), namely MOSAMO1, MOSAMO2 and MOSAMO3. the procedure is applied to three objective functions: the economic cost, the reinforcing steel congestion and the embedded CO 2 emissions. Additional results for a random walk and a descent local search multi-objective algorithm are presented. the evaluation of solutions follows the Spanish Code for structural concrete. the methodology was applied to a typical bridge pier of 23.97 m in height. this example involved 110 design variables. Results indicate that algorithm MOSAMO2 outperforms other algorithms regarding the definition of Pareto fronts. Further, the proposed procedure will help structural engineers to enhance their bridge pier designs.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(alloHSCt)is a life-saving procedure used for the treatment of selected hematological malignancies,inborn errors of metabolism,and bone marrow *** role of neutrophils in alloHSCt has been traditionally evaluated only in the context of their ability to act as a first line of defense against ***,recent evidence has highlighted neutrophils as key effectors of innate and adaptive immune responses through a wide array of newly discovered ***,neutrophils are emerging as highly versatile cells that are able to acquire different,often opposite,functional capacities depending on the microenvironment and their differentiation ***,we review the current knowledge on the multiple functions that neutrophils exhibit through the different stages of alloHSCt,from the hematopoietic stem cell(HSC)mobilization in the donor to the immunological reconstitution that occurs in the recipient following HSC *** also discuss the influence exerted on neutrophils by the immunosuppressive drugs delivered in the course of alloHSCt as part of graft-versushost disease(GVHD)***,the potential involvement of neutrophils in alloHSCt-related complications,such as transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy(tA-tMA),acute and chronic GVHD,and cytomegalovirus(CMV)reactivation,is also *** on the data reviewed herein,the role played by neutrophils in alloHSCt is far greater than a simple antimicrobial ***,much remains to be investigated in terms of the potential functions that neutrophils might exert during a highly complex procedure such as alloHSCt.

We apply stochastic seismic inversion and Bayesian facies classification for porosity modeling and igneous rock identification in the presalt interval of the Santos Basin. this integration of seismic and well-derived information enhances reservoir characterization. Stochastic inversion and Bayesian classification are powerful tools because they permit addressing the uncertainties in the model. We used the ES-MDA algorithm to achieve the realizations equivalent to the percentiles P10, P50, and P90 of acoustic impedance, a novel method for acoustic inversion in presalt. the facies were divided into five: reservoir 1,reservoir 2, tight carbonates, clayey rocks, and igneous rocks. to deal with the overlaps in acoustic impedance values of facies, we included geological information using a priori probability, indicating that structural highs are reservoir-dominated. to illustrate our approach, we conducted porosity modeling using facies-related rock-physics models for rock-physics inversion in an area with a well drilled in a coquina bank and evaluated the thickness and extension of an igneous intrusion near the carbonate-salt interface. the modeled porosity and the classified seismic facies are in good agreement with the ones observed in the wells. Notably, the coquinas bank presents an improvement in the porosity towards the top. the a priori probability model was crucial for limiting the clayey rocks to the structural lows. In Well B, the hit rate of the igneous rock in the three scenarios is higher than 60%, showing an excellent thickness-prediction capability.

Oil spills and oil/water wastewater are among the great concerns regarding oil *** technologies face many limitations and in some cases are responsible for causing secondary pollution,therefore there is as seek for environmental friendly ***,from which celluloses are highlighted,are being employed for oil/water separation or oil absorbents ***,these membranes are obtained by freeze drying of CNF(cellulose nano-fibrils)suspensions followed by chemical modification for hydrophobization,which involves expensive process as chemical vapor deposition and expensive reactants as sylanes,turning these processes hardly ***,we produced a natural porous structure paper from eucalyptus pulp fibers modified by a dipping and heating process in a blocked diisocyanate *** the surface treatment,contact angle with water reached 144°and water absorption reduced seven times,keeping the good oil *** chemical modification process is simple to be performed and use a very low quantity of reactant estimated to be less than 0.1 wt%based on *** good mechanical properties of the material allows its use in non usual conditions which can be of great importance depending on the environmental conditions.

Heusler compounds attract a great deal of attention from researchers thanks to a wealth of interesting properties,among which is *** we perform an extensive study of the superconducting and elastic properties of the cubic(full-)Heusler family using a mixture of ab initio methods,as well as interpretable and predictive machine-learning *** analyzing the statistical distributions of these properties and comparing them to anti-perovskites,we recognize universal behaviors that should be common to all conventional superconductors while others turn out to be specific to the material *** total,we discover a total of eight hypothetical materials with critical temperatures above 10 K to be compared with the current record of t_(c)=4.7 K in this ***,we expect most of these materials to be highly ductile,making them potential candidates for the manufacture of wires and tapes for superconducting magnets.
