Primary reperfusion in acute right ventricular infarction: An observational study

AIM: To investigate the impact of primary reperfusion therapy(RT) on early and late mortality in acute right ventricular infarction(RVI). METHODS: RVI patients(n = 679) were prospectivelyclassified as without right ventricular failure(RVF)(class A, n = 425, 64%), with RVF(class b, n = 158, 24%) or with cardiogenic shock(CS)(class C, n = 96, 12%). Of the 679 patients, 148(21.7%) were considered to be eligible for thrombolytic therapy(TT) and 351(51.6%) for primary percutaneous coronary intervention(PPCI). TIMI 3-flow by TT was achieved for A, b and C RVI class in 65%, 64% and 0%, respectively and with PPCI in 93%, 91% and 87%, respectively. RESULTS: For class A without RT, the mortality rate was 7.9%, with TT was reduced to 4.4%(P b without RT the mortality was 27%, decreased to 13% with TT(P b was 48% and for class C was 85%. When PPCI was successful, the longterm mortality was lower than previously reported for the 3 RVI classes(A: 21%, b: 38%, C: 70%; P be encouraged to undergo PPCI at a specialized center.

Antibacterial Effect of Aqueous Extracts and bioactive Chemical Compounds of <i>Coffea canephora</i>against Microorganisms Involved in Dental Caries and Periodontal Disease

This study aimed to evaluate the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum bactericidal Concentration (MbC) of Coffea canephora aqueous extract (Cc), trigonelline (Tg) and 5-caffeoylquinic acid (5-CQA) against cariogenic microorganisms: Streptococcus parasanguinis ATCC 903 (SP), Lactobacillus rhamnosus ATCC 9595 (LR);and pathogens related to periodontal disease: Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 (PG), Fusobacterium nucleatum ATCC 25586 (FN), Prevotella intermedia ATCC 49046 (PI) and Prevotella nigrescens ATCC 33563 (PN). Different concentrations of Cc (0.15625 to 10 mg/mL), Tg and 5-CQA (0.005 to 10.24 mg/mL) were tested. Chlorhexidine (0.05%) was used as positive control and the substances without the inoculum comprised the blank control. The Cc showed bacteriostatic action against SP (MIC = 5 mg/mL) and LR (MIC = 10 mg/mL). Tg showed bacteriostatic action against SP (MIC = 2.56 to 1.28 mg/mL), LR (MIC = 2.56 mg/mL), PG (MIC = 2.56 to 1.28 mg/mL), FN (MIC = 5.12 mg/mL), PN (MIC = 2.56 mg/mL), and PI (MIC = 2.56 to 1.28 mg/mL). Also, Tg showed bactericide properties against SP (MbC = 2.56 mg/mL), PG (MbC = 2.56 mg/mL), FN (MbC = 10.24 mg/mL), PN (MbC = 5.12 mg/mL), and PI (MbC = 2.56 mg/mL). Although 5-CQA has previously shown activity against Streptococcus mutans, in the present study, it showed no activity against all tested microorganisms. C. canephora extract only showed antibacterial activity against cariogenic microorganisms, not presenting action against periodontal pathogens. It was concluded that trigonelline presented the best effect against all pathogens tested, therefore coffee extracts with higher trigonelline content should be tested against these specific pathogens.

Surgical Preparation of a Permanent Carotid Transposition in Sheep

In large animal research, when frequent sampling of arterial blood is needed, the carotid artery transposition is the most used technique. The objective of this paper is to describe a new technique for carotid artery transposition in sheep and evaluate its effectiveness using the echo-Doppler ultrasound. The animals enrolled in this study had their carotid surgically elevated to the subcutaneous level, by suturing underneath muscles sternocephalic and brachiocephalic. None of the animals that underwent the procedure in this study had trans- or postoperative complications. Six months after the suture removal, all animals presented patent ca-rotids by echo-Doppler ultrasound. This is an easy and safe procedure for carrying out experiments that re-quire the collection of arterial blood.

Altered Expression in Patients with Heart Failure of Circulating MicroRNAs Related to Lipoprotein Metabolism

Objective： This study aimed to investigate, for the first time, the expression of circulating miRNAs （microRNAs） related to lipoprotein metabolism in patients with HF （heart failure）. Medlods： Twenty patients with HF and 10 controls without HF were included. bNP （brain natxiuretic peptide）, a marker of HF severity, plasma lipid parameters and the expression of circulating miRNAs were determined. Key findings： Total, LDL-, non-HDL- and HDL-cholesterol, txiglycerides, and apo A-I did not differ between both groups, but apo b was lower in the HF group compared to controls （p = 0.007）. In respect to miRNAs, miR-33a, miR-144, miR-125, miR-30c, miR-122, miR-26a, miR-185, miR-758 and miR-106b were higher, from ten- to 25-fold, and miR-10b was lower about 4-fold, in HF group compared to controls. In HF patients a negative correlation between miR-26a and bNP, the marker of disease severity, was found （r = -0.552; p = 0.041）. Conclusions： Plasma levels of miRNAs involved in HDL and LDL metabolism regulation were strikingly changed in HF patients. The negative correlation between miR-26a and bNP values may suggest the possibility of the rise of a novel biomarker or therapeutic target in HF.

The stomatognathic system (SS) is a functional unit of the body that depends on the balance of several tissues. It consists of various structures, including the temporomandibular joint. Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) can occur due to alterations in the SS. The Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI) is a scale used to evaluate and to characterize the TMD Type: no DTM, mild, moderate and severe. The aim is to evaluate the prevalence of signs and symptoms related to TMD in university students of the Parque das Rosas Campus, Universidade Estácio de Sá that practice sports. This investigation was approved (CAAE number 325678413.9.0000.5284). Two hundred eighth students (110 male and 98 female, aged 19 - 35 years) accepted to be in this investigation. All the participants answered a General Questionnaire (GQ) and the FAI. The GQ had questions about the age, sex and the presence of TMD. The FAI was used. A statistical difference (p > 0.05) was not found about the presence of TMD. Among the female, an elevated number of the students with signal or symptoms related to the temporomandibular with statistic significance (p bserved. In the population without TMD, the prevalence of this disorder is higher between male than female. Considering the FAI, among the female students, there is a prevalence of the Mild Type. Considering the evaluation of the type of TMD among the male and female students no difference was found between male and female to the types mild and moderate, however, the prevalence of the severe Type is higher in female than in male with statistical significance. In conclusion, TMD is a relevant clinical condition with an important prevalence among the university students. Moreover, the type of the TMD could be considered due to prevalence of the Type Severe among the women.

Antioxidants Enzymes Activities and NO Levels in Hemodialysis and Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis—A Comparative Study

It consists of a retrospective study with twenty-two individuals diagnosed with DRC: fourteen HD and eight CAPD, followed up in the dialysis center of antonio Pedro University Hospital (HUAP) of Fluminense Federal University (UFF), between 2015 and 2017. Fifteen healthy control (HC) subjects were included, without diagnosed CKD. Patients with HIV positive, hepatitis A, b, and C, pregnant, cancer, smokers, alcoholics and those exposed to X-rays in the last 3 months, were excluded. Objectives: As oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction may be linked to the higher prevalence of CVD in CKD patients, we measured the activities of the antioxidants enzymes: SOD and GPx and total NO levels in the plasma and serum of end-stage CKD patients undergoing dialysis therapy, comparing with the HC group. Methods: Quantification of NO levels was performed by fluorometric kit, while activities of SOD and GPx were determined using kinetic methods. Results: We found higher plasma SOD activity in HD (8.58 U/ml) and CAPD (10.14 U/ml), compared to C (3.73 U/ml) group, while GPx activity was decreased in HD (115.38 nmol/h/ml) and CAPD (122.76 nmol/h/ml) groups compared to HC group (275.83 nmol/h/ml). Total serum NO concentration was decreased in HD (14.09 pmol/μl) and CAPD (10.26 pmol/μl), compared to non-CKD patients (49.65 pmol/μl). Conclusion: Decreased total serum NO and GPx activities may lead to endothelial dysfunction and consequently a higher prevalence of CVD in CKD patients.
