Tomato production is influenced by shoot branching,which is controlled by different *** we produced tomato plants overexpressing the cytokinin-deactivating gene CYTOKININ OXYDASe 2(CKX2).CKX2-overexpressing(CKX2-Oe)plants showed an excessive growth of axillary shoots,the opposite phenotype expected for plants with reduced cytokinin content,as evidenced by LC-MS analysis and ARR5-GUS *** TCP transcription factor SlBRC1b was downregulated in the axillary buds of CKX2-Oe and its excessive branching was dependent on a functional version of the GRAS-family gene LATeRAL SUPPReSSOR(LS).Grafting experiments indicated that increased branching in CKX2-Oe plants is unlikely to be mediated by root-derived *** CKX2-Oe plants with transgenic antisense plants for the strigolactone biosynthesis gene CAROTeNOID CLeAVAGe DIOXYGeNASe(CCD7-AS)produced an additive phenotype,indicating independent effects of cytokinin and strigolactones on increased *** the other hand,CKX2-Oe plants showed reduced polar auxin transport and their bud outgrowth was reduced when combined with auxin ***,CKX2-Oe basal buds did not respond to auxin applied in the decapitated *** results suggest that tomato shoot branching depends on a fine-tuning of different hormonal balances and that perturbations in the auxin status could compensate for the reduced cytokinin levels in CKX2-Oe plants.

The collision of a divergent ocean ridge may evolve into two end cases： in the continuity of ocean-floor subduction, or in the detachment of the subducted plate. The northern Patagonia active plate margin has the unique situation that in Cenozoic time it has been subjected to two divergent ridge collisions, each one representing one of the end members. The Neogene Antarctica-Nazca divergent ridge collision evolved as a continuous ocean-floor subduction system, promoting a magmatic hiatus at the arc axis, the obduction of part of the ridge ocean-floor in the fore-arc, and basaltic volcanism in the back-arc. In contrast, the Paleogene Farallon-Aluk divergent ridge collision evolved into a transform margin, with the detachment and sinking of the Aluk plate and the development of a large slab window. As in the previous case, this collision promoted a magmatic hiatus at the arc axis, but the tectono-magmatic scenario changed to postorogenic synextensional volcanism that spread to the former fore-arc （basalt, andesite, rhyolite） and former back-arc （bimodal ignimbrite flare-up, basalt）. Geochemistry of this slab window synextensional volcanism shows more MORB-like basalts towards the former fore-arc, and MORB-OIB-Iike basalts towards the former back-arc. Instead, an isolated undeformable crustal block in the former back-arc, with an ＂epeirogenic＂ response to the slab window and extensional regime, was covered by OIB-type basalts after uplift. Major elements show that slab window basalts reach TiO2 values up to 3 wt%, as compared with the top value of 1.5 wt% of arc magmas. Besides, the MgO with respect to （FeOt ＋ A1203） ratio helps to distinguish slab window magma changes from the former fore-arc to the former back-arc and also with respect to the ＂epeirogenic＂ block. Higher contents of HFS elements such as Nb and Ta also help to distinguish this slab window from arc magmas and also, to distinguish slab window magma changes from the former fore-arc to the former back-arc

exhaled breath analysis in hepatology: State-of-the-art and perspectives

Liver disease is characterized by breath exhalation of peculiar volatile organic compounds(VOCs).Thanks to the availability of sensitive technologies for breath analysis,this empiric approach has recently gained increasing attention in the context of hepatology,following the good results obtained in other fields of *** the first studies that led to the identification of selected VOCs for pathophysiological purposes,subsequent research has progressively turned towards the comprehensive assessment of exhaled breath for potential clinical *** VOC patterns were found to discriminate subjects with liver cirrhosis,to rate disease severity,and,eventually,to forecast adverse clinical outcomes even beyond existing *** results suggest that breath analysis could be useful also for detecting and staging hepatic encephalopathy and for predicting steatohepatitis in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver ***,clinical translation is still hampered by a number of methodological limitations,including the lack of standardization and the consequent poor comparability between studies and the absence of external validation of obtained *** the low-cost and easy execution at bedside of the new technologies(e-nose),larger and well-structured studies are expected in order to provide the adequate level of evidence to support VOC analysis in clinical practice.

effect of Noisy Fitness in Real-Time Strategy Games Player Behaviour Optimisation Using evolutionary Algorithms

This paper investigates the performance and the results of an evolutionary algorithm （eA） specifically designed for evolving the decision engine of a program （which, in this context, is called bot） that plays Planet Wars. This game, which was chosen for the Google Artificial Intelligence Challenge in 2010, requires the bot to deal with multiple target planets, while achieving a certain degree of adaptability in order to defeat different opponents in different scenarios. The decision engine of the bot is initially based on a set of rules that have been defined after an empirical study, and a genetic algorithm （GA） is used for tuning the set of constants, weights and probabilities that those rules include, and therefore, the general behaviour of the bot. Then, the bot is supplied with the evolved decision engine and the results obtained when competing with other bots （a bot offered by Google as a sparring partner, and a scripted bot with a pre-established behaviour） are thoroughly analysed. The evaluation of the candidate solutions is based on the result of non-deterministic battles （and environmental interactions） against other bots, whose outcome depends on random draws as well as on the opponents＇ actions. Therefore, the proposed GA is dealing with a noisy fitness function. After analysing the effects of the noisy fitness, we conclude that tackling randomness via repeated combats and reevaluations reduces this effect and makes the GA a highly valuable approach for solving this problem.

The effect of humidity on the CO_2/N_2 separation performance of copolymers based on hard polyimide segments and soft polyether chains:experimental and modeling

In this work, we studied two copolymers formed by segments of a rubbery polyether（PPO or PeO） and of a glassy polyimide（BPDA-ODA or BKDA-ODA） suitable for gas separation and CO2 capture. Firstly, we assessed the absorption of water vapor in the materials, as a function of relative humidity（R.H.）, finding that the humidity uptake of the copolymers lies between that of the corresponding pure homopolymers ***, we studied the effect of humidity on CO2 and N2 permeability, as well as on CO2/N2 selectivity, up to R.H. of 75%. The permeability decreases with increasing humidity, while the ideal selectivity remains approximately constant in the entire range of water activity investigated. The humidity-induced decrease of permeability in the copolymers is much smaller than the one observed in polyimides such as Matrimid? confirming the positive effect of the polyether phase on the membrane ***, we modeled the humidity-induced decrease of gas solubility, diffusivity and, consequently, permeability, using a suitable approach that considers the free volume theory for diffusion and LF model for solubility. Such model allows estimating the extent of competition that the gases undergo with water during sorption in the membranes, as a function of the relative humidity, as well as the expected reduction of free volume by means of water molecules occupation and consequent reduction of diffusivity.

Morphologic changes due to human chorionic gonadotropin in the rat testis: Role of vascular endothelial growth factor

Introduction: Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) has an important role in the regulation of reproductive system and a high capacity to stimulate angiogenesis by secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor (VeGF). It could be also used for medical treatment of cryptorchidism, as it stimulates Leydig cells to produce testosterone, but its use has been discussed. Aim of the study was to evaluate the testicular morphological changes due to cyclic administration of hCG possibly related to VeGF effect. Methods: 80 pre-puberal male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided in two groups hCG (50 U/I/ Kg) (n = 55/S) and placebo (n = 25/C) treated. The animals were sacrificed respectively after one (S1 n = 10;C1 n = 5), two (S2 n = 10;C2 n = 5) and three weeks of hCG or placebo treatment (S3 n = 35;C3 n = 15);a blood serum was obtained for evaluation of plasmatic testosterone. The testis, prostates, epididymides and seminal vesicles were drawn and weighted. Specimens were fixed in formalin and coloured by hematoxylin-eosin. Morphometric analysis of Leydig cell number, nuclear area and perimeter was carried out. Immunoistochemistry for VeGF has been performed with the avidin-biotin peroxidase technique. Statistical differences between groups, each of different age, were calculating using Student’s T-test. Results: After the first week of hCG treatment it has been observed an increased testicular weight and volume (+/﹣6%) in experimental respect to control group. This result was not observed after the second and third week of treatment. Significant variations were also observed in the mean prostate weight, whereas mean seminal vesicles weight was significant in the S2 and S3 groups respect to control. In the hCG treated rats it has been observed a poor differentiation of the seminiferous epithelium, with high Leydig cell evidence and increased intertubular eosinophilic material. Benefits of Stochastic Optimization for Scheduling energy Storage in Wholesale electricity Markets

We propose a two-stage stochastic model for optimizing the operation of energy storage. The model captures two important features: uncertain real-time prices when day-ahead operational commitments are made;and the price impact of charging and discharging energy storage. We demonstrate that if energy storage has full flexibility to make real-time adjustments to its day-ahead commitment and market prices do not respond to charging and discharging decisions, there is no value in using a stochastic modeling framework, i.e., the value of stochastic solution is always zero. This is because in such a case the energy storage behaves purely as a financial arbitrageur day ahead, which can be captured using a deterministic *** show also that prices responding to its operation can make it profitable for energy storage to "waste" energy, for instance by charging and discharging simultaneously, which is normally sub-optimal. We demonstrate our model and how to calibrate the price-response functions from historical data with a practical case study.

Impact of comorbidities on the severity of chronic hepatitis B at presentation

Calcifying Odontogenic Cyst of the Oral Cavity: A Clinical Case and Current Updates on the ethiopathogenesis

Background: The calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) is a rare pathological entity. It falls into a group of lesions with calcifications that present benign and sometime malignant tumor variants. Case Presentation: In the present study, we report on a case of intraosseous/intrasinusal COC with impacted maxillary canine and dentinoid structures odontoma-like. The clinical, radiographical, histopathological, and molecular characteristics of this pathological entity are discussed in relation also to the problems of differential diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Conclusion: The true COC is a rare entity in the oral cavity and represents about less than 1% of all odontogenic lesions. Careful clinical, instrumental and histological analysis must be performed for odontogenic cysts in order to accomplish the correct surgical act and to avoid recurrence.
