The taxonomic relationship of Chinese GeBdium tsengii and Gelidium johnstonii was ambiguous. For almost 20 years they have been regarded as distinct taxa and until 2002 *** was considered as a misapplied name of G. tsengii. In this study, herbarium specimens that initially attributed to G. tsengii and fresh G. tsengii specimens were used to address the taxonomic issues. In phylogenetic studies, G. tsengii from Dayawan, China, near the type locality of G. tsengii and *** from Sonora, Mexico, the type locality of G. johnstonii, formed a monophyletic group with maximum support in rbcL and COl genes analyses, indicating that they were genetically identical. In morphological studies, G. tsengii was similar to G. johnstonii in branching pattern, inner structures and fructiferous organs. Consequently, we considered that semi-circular outline of G. tsengii could no longer be treated as a discrimating fea^re. *** had priority of publication and according to the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature, G. tsengii was proposed as a synonym of G. johnstonii. Gelidium honghaiwanense sp. nov. was described from Guangdong, China on the basis of morphological and molecular data. For vegetative structures, it was characterized by flattened upright frond, regular two-three times branches pinnate or alternate and clavate ultimate branchlets. For reproductive structures, the tetrasporangial sori were in the apical part of branches and the tetrasporangial branchlets were distichously distributed along second order branches. The present study clarified the relationship between G. tsengii and G. johnstonii from Guangdong and added a new Gelidium species to the Chinese algal flora.

The growth of Nb thin films on Si（100） substrates by different laser fluences （4-15 J/cm2） was reported, The pulsed Nd：YAG laser deposition （PLD） under influence of laser fluence on ablation rate and deposition rate was discussed. X-ray diffraction （XRD） investigations of the deposited films showed an amorphous structure. The droplet density on the film surface observed by scanning electron microscopy （SEM） analyses was extremely low. It was experimentally proved that the droplets on the film surface originated from liquid phase on the target surface, Profilometric measurements of the deposited Nb films revealed a substantial asymmetry in the film thickness related to the plume deflection effect. The measured electrical resistivity of the Nb film was higher than that of high purity Nb bulk. The present investigations of ablation and deposition process of Nb thin films are related to its potential application in superconducting radio-frequency （SRF） cavities.

Effect of thinning on above-ground biomass accumulation in a Douglas-fir plantation in southern Italy

We investigated the effects of a long-term thinning experiment on the distribution of above-ground biomass of Douglas-fir （Pseudotsuga menziesii [Mirb.] Franco var. menziesii） in a plantation in southern Italy. Allometric equations were used to estimate biomass and partitioning to stem and crown compartments. Variation in biomass stock estimated with allometric equations were evaluated according to seven thinning treatments： geo- metric-systematic （1 row every 3）, selective （light-moderate-heavy）, mixed systematic-selective （1 row every 4, 1 row every 5）, unthinned （control）. Over the experimental period of 13 years, current annual increments of carbon were lower （3.4 Mg ha^-1 year^-1） in control plots than in treated plots. At age 30, plots subjected to light selective thinning showed higher values of above-ground biomass （249.7 Mg ha^-1）. The biomass harvested with this treatment was 29.3 Mg ha^-1, and the mean annual increment of carbon over 13 years was 4.8 Mg ha^-1. Our results showed that light thinning stimulated increase in carbon stock, with a minimal loss of carbon during the treatment and a current annual increment of carbon higher than in control sub-plots and sub-plots thinned using systematic methods. This treatment yielded least carbon emissions and we affirm it has discrete global warming mitigation potential.

Human bocavirus(HBoV) is a parvovirus isolated about a decade ago and found worldwide in both respiratory samples, mainly from early life and children of 6-24 mo of age with acute respiratory infection, and in stool samples, from patients with gastroenteritis. Since then, other viruses related to the first HBoV isolate(HBoV 1), namely HBoV 2, HBoV 3 and HBoV 4, have been detected principally in human faeces. HBo Vs are small nonenveloped single-stranded DNA viruses of about 5300 nucleotides, consisting of three open reading frames encoding the first two the non-structural protein 1(NS1) and nuclear phosphoprotein(NP1) and the third the viral capsid proteins 1 and 2(VP1 and VP2). HBoV pathogenicity remains to be fully clarified mainly due to the lack of animal models for the difficulties in replicating the virus in in vitro cell cultures, and the fact that HBo V infection is frequently accompanied by at least another viral and/or bacterial respiratory and/or gastroenteric pathogen infection. Current diagnostic methods to support HBoV detection include polymerase chain reaction, real-time PCR, enzymelinked immunosorbent assay and enzyme immunoassay using recombinant VP2 or virus-like particle capsid proteins, although sequence-independent amplification techniques combined with next-generation sequencing platforms promise rapid and simultaneous detection of the pathogens in the future. This review presents the current knowledge on HBoV genotypes with emphasis on taxonomy, phylogenetic relationship and genomic analysis, biology, epidemiology, pathogenesis and diagnostic methods. The emerging discussion on HBoV s as true pathogen or innocent bystander is also emphasized.

Objective:Carpobrotus edulis(L.)*** a succulent perennial plant native to South Africa and grows invasively in the Mediterranean *** is commonly used for the treatment of various diseases,including skin wound healing and regeneration,for which experimental validation is *** therefore evaluated the skin healing properties by testing a *** aqueous leaf extract(CAE)on cell cultures and in enzymatic ***:Micro-morphological analysis of leaves was carried out using scanning electron microscopy and light *** features and antioxidant activity of CAE were evaluated by reversed-phase liquid chromatography coupled with diode array detection and electrospray ion trap mass spectrometry(RP-LC-DAD-ESI-MS),and in vitro cell-free *** activities were evaluated using keratinocytes and fibroblasts,as well as elastase,collagenase,and ***:CAE showed high carbohydrates(28.59%±0.68%),total phenols([101.9±6.0]g gallic acid equivalents/kg dry extract[DE]),and flavonoids([545.9±26.0]g rutin equivalents/kg DE).RP-LC-DAD-ESI-MS revealed the predominant presence of hydroxycinnamic acids(51.96%),followed by tannins(14.82%)and flavonols(11.32%).The extract was not cytotoxic,had a strong and dose-dependent antioxidant activity,and inhibited collagenase(>90%at 500 mg/m L)and hyaluronidase(100%at 1000 mg/m L).In cell culture experiments,CAE increased wound closure and collagen production,which was consistent with its high polyphenol ***:Our data support the use of the *** for skin care and the treatment of skin ***,use of *** for skin care purposes could be an eco-friendly solution to reduce its invasiveness in the environment.

While lifestyle modifications are currently used as firstline treatment for subjects with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), the pathogenetic role of lifestyle factors and consequently, the efficacy of lifestyle measures is controversial. Our aim was to systematically review the pathogenetic link between overweight/ obesity, dietary habits, physical activity and GERD, and the beneficial effect of specific recommended changes, by means of the available literature from the 1999 to the present. Obesity, in particular, abdominal obesity, plays a key role in determining GERD symptoms and complications through mechanical and metabolic effects. Controlled weight loss (by diet or surgery) is effective in improving GERD symptoms. No definitive data exist regarding the role of diet and, in particular, of specific foods or drinks, in influencing GERD clinical manifestations. Moderate physical activity seems to be beneficial for GERD, while vigorous activity may be dangerous in predisposed individuals. In conclusion, being obese/overweight and GERD-specific symptoms and endoscopic features are related, and weight loss significantly improves GERD clinical-endoscopic manifestations. The role of dietary behavior, mainly in terms of specific dietary components, remains controversial. Mild routine physical activity in association with diet modifications, i.e. a diet rich in fiber and low in fat, is advisable in preventing reflux symptoms.

AIM:To study the prevalence of functional dyspepsia(FD)(Rome Ⅲ criteria) across eating disorders(ED),obese patients,constitutional thinner and healthy ***:Twenty patients affected by anorexia nervosa,6 affected by bulimia nervosa,10 affected by ED not otherwise specified according to diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders,4th edition,nine constitutional thinner subjects and,thirtytwo obese patients were recruited from an outpatients clinic devoted to eating behavior *** healthy volunteers matched for age and gender were enrolled as healthy *** participants underwent a careful clinical *** and anthropometric characteristics were obtained from a structured *** presence of FD and,its subgroups,epigastric pain syndrome and postprandial distress syndrome(PDS) were diagnosed according to Rome Ⅲ *** intensity-frequency score of broader dyspeptic symptoms such as early satiety,epigastric fullness,epigastric pain,epigastric burning,epigastric pressure,belching,nausea and vomiting were studied by a standardized questionnaire(0-6).Analysis of variance and post-hoc Sheffè tests were used for ***:90% of patients affected by anorexia nervosa,83.3% of patients affected by bulimia nervosa,90% of patients affected by ED not otherwise specified,55.6% of constitutionally thin subjects and 18.2% healthy volunteers met the Postprandial Distress Syndrome Criteria(χ 2,P < 0.001).Only one bulimic patient met the epigastric pain syndrome *** fullness intensity-frequency score was significantly higher in anorexia nervosa,bulimia nervosa and ED not otherwise specified groups compared to the score calculated in the constitutional thinner group(4.15 ± 2.08 vs 1.44 ± 2.35,P = 0.003;5.00 ± 2.45vs 1.44 ± 2.35,P = 0.003;4.10 ± 2.23vs 1.44 ± 2.35,P = 0.002,respectively),the obese group(4.15 ± 2.08vs 0.00 ± 0.00,P < 0.001;5.00 ± 2.45vs 0.00 ± 0.00,P < 0.001;4.10 ± 2.23
