Stop-and-go waves induced by correlated noise in pedestrian models without inertia

Stop-and-go waves are commonly observed in traffic and pedestrian *** most microscopic traffic models,they occur through a phase transition and instability of the homogeneous solution after fine tuning of *** effects are believed to play an important role in this *** this article,we present a novel explanation for stop-and-go waves based on stochastic effects in the absence of *** model used is a first order optimal velocity(OV)model including an additive stochastic noise.A power spectral analysis for single-file pedestrian trajectories highlights the existence of Brownian speed *** use the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process to describe such a correlated *** introduction of this specific colored noise in the first order OV model allows describing realistic stop-and-go behavior without requiring instabilities or phase transitions,the homogeneous configurations being systematically stochastically *** compare the stochastic model to deterministic unstable OV models and analyze individual speed autocorrelation to describe the nature of the waves in stationary *** apply the approach to pedestrian single-file motion and compare simulation results to real pedestrian *** simulation results are quantitatively very similar to the real *** discuss plausible values for the model parameters and their meaning.

Sleep is a reversible behavioral state characterized by a higher arousal threshold and transient disconnection from the external ***,sleeping organisms show lowered behavioral responsiveness to sensory stimuli(such as sound,touch,and smell)in the experimental environment[1]that contrastswithheightenedauditory-evokedneuronal responses recorded in the cortex in rodents and non-human primates[2,3].These reports support the hypothesis of sensory gating,as found during sleep spindles,that ultimately preserves sleep from external ***,this strongly contrasts to the high vulnerability to predation associated with sleep states in the natural environment.

Farmers' contributions to the conservation of tree diversity in the Groundnut Basin,Senegal

Tree diversity in West Africa is threatened by intensified land uses and salinization, and farmers’ role in conservation of tree species is unclear. We hypothesized that farmers contribute to conservation of tree diversity through protection of trees in their agroforestry landscapes and compared the diversity and structure of the tree vegetation across landscape classes. Inventories were carried out in three villages in the Groundnut Basin in Senegal, assessing tree diversity, density and crown cover. Tree diversity as assessed by species accumulation curves was high in forests, but cultivated landscapes had comparable or almost comparable diversity, especially in the cases where the forest was planted or was affected by charcoal production. However, the occurrence of exotic species was higher in cultivated parts of the landscape, and although many species were in common, ordination plots indicated that forests and cultivated landscapes to some degree had different species composition. Salinity had a strong influence on vegetation, not only in the tans (salt marshes) but also across the other landscape classes. In conclusion, agroforestry landscapes in the three villages harbor considerable tree diversity, but insufficient to fully conserve the tree species. We argue that informing and including farmers in tree management in the region will contribute to overall conservation of tree genetic resources.

Excavation with tunnel boring machine(TBM)can generate vibrations,causing damages to neighbouring buildings and disturbing the residents or the *** problem is particularly challenging in urban areas,where TBMs are increasingly large in diameter and shallow in *** response to this problem,four experimental campaigns were carried out in different geotechnical contexts in *** vibration measurements were acquired on the surface and inside the *** measurements are also complemented by few data in the *** original methodology of signal processing is pro-posed to characterize the amplitude of the particle velocities,as well as the frequency content of the signals to highlight the most energetic *** levels of vibrations are also compared with the thresholds existing in various European regulations concerning the impact on neighbouring structures and the disturbance to local residents.

The objective of this work was to carry out a morphological characterization of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in the rhizosphere of Xanthosoma sagittifolium L. Schott plants. The plant material used was the white and red cultivars of X. sagittifolium, belonging to age intervals of 3 - 6, 6 - 9, and 9 - 12 months. Three harvest sites were chosen in the Central Region of Cameroon. In each site, soil from the rhizosphere and plant roots was collected in a randomized manner. In the field, the agronomic parameters were evaluated. The physicochemical characteristics of the soils, the mycorrhization index, and the morphological characterization of the mycorrhizal types of each site were carried out. The results obtained show that the agronomic growth parameters varied significantly using the Student Newman and Keuls Test depending on the harvest sites. The soils’ pH in all sites was acidic and ranged between 4.6 and 5.8. The Nkometou site has a loamy texture while the Olembe and Soa sites have loam-clay-sandy and loam-clay textures respectively. The highest mycorrhization frequencies appeared at the Nkometou site, with 75 and 87.33% of the white and red cultivars plant roots at 6 - 9 and 3 - 6 months. The relative abundance of AMF arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal spores in the rhizosphere of X. sagittifolium plants varied with age and cultivar. There were 673 spores between 9 - 12 months in Nkometou in the red cultivar. Six AMF genera were identified in all the different soils collected: Acaulospora sp., Funneliformis sp., Gigaspora sp., Glomus sp., Scutellospora sp., and Septoglomus sp. The genus Glomus sp. was the most present at all age intervals in both cultivars.

To investigate the effect of AlsMn4Gd phase on microstructural and mechanical properties of Mg-Al-Ca magnesium alloy,two Mg-2.5AbCa and Mg-2.5Al2Ca-0.1 Al8Mn4Gd alloys were designed and compared in this *** results show that a small amount of Gd can significantly refine a-Mg grains and change the morphology of AUCa ***,the formed Al8Mn4Gd phase could serve as a heterogeneous nucleation site for the a-Mg grains and AbCa ***,the introduction of Gd not only optimized the mechanical properties of Mg-Al-Ca alloy,but also facilitated the thermal deformation(such as hot rolling).

The aim of this paper is to derive a stable and efficient scheme for solving the one-dimensional time-fractional nonlinear Schrodinger equation set in an unbounded *** first derive absorbing boundary conditions for the fractional system by using the unified approach introduced in[47,48]and a linearization ***,the initial boundary-value problem for the fractional system with ABCs is discretized,a stability analysis is developed and the error estimate O(h^(2)+τ)is *** accel-erate the L1-scheme in time,a sum-of-exponentials approximation is introduced to speed-up the evaluation of the Caputo fractional *** resulting algorithm is highly efficient for long time ***,we end the paper by reporting some numerical simulations to validate the properties(accuracy and efficiency)of the derived scheme.
