Cheonggu.jang is a soybean paste made by fermenting whole cooked soybeans with Bacillu. su.tilis. Cheonggu.jang contains a fibrinolytic enzyme that cou.d provide clinical applications for removing blood clots. In the present stu.y, the term ＂cheonggu.jang kinase＂（CGK） was u.ed to refer to this fibrinolytic enzyme. The thrombolytic effects of CGK were analyzed in a rat model of cerebral embolic stroke produ.ed by middle cerebral artery occlu.ion （MCAO）. Resu.ts from fibrin and platelet-rich clot lysis assays demonstrated that thrombolytic activity was greatest in CGKs, which were cu.tu.ed for 40 hou.s. In addition, T50, the time needed to decompose 50% of the clot, did not change with plasminogen treatment, indicating that CGK was not a plasminogen activator, bu. was rather presu.ed to act as a plasmin-like protein. An intravenou. infu.ion of CGK （1 u.plasmin-like activity/100 μg CGK/kg） at 1 hou. after MCAO resu.ted in removal of clots in a rat model of cerebral embolic stroke. CGK-treated grou.s exhibited a significant dose-dependent redu.tion in infarct volu.e. CGK treatment also improved fu.ctional recovery, as assessed by neu.ological deficit scores. Decreased infarct volu.e and improved fu.ctional recovery following CGK treatment was greater compared with recombinant tissu. plasminogen activator （10 mg/kg）. These resu.ts su.gested that CGK effectively redu.ed infarct volu.e and improved fu.ctional recovery following ischemic brain inju.y. CGK exhibits a nu.ber of potential clinical applications ir the treatment of cerebral embolic stroke.

Backgrou.d and objectives:Coronaviru. disease 2019(COVID-19)is a pandemic that has become a major sou.ce of morbidity and mortality worldwide,affecting the physical and mental health of individu.ls influ.ncing *** the threat,it poses to maternal health in su.-Saharan Africa and Nigeria,there is little or no data on the impact it has on fertility,conception,gestation and *** compare the birth rate between pre-COVID and COVID times u.ing selected months of the *** and methods:This was a secondary analysis of cross-sectional analytical stu.y data from the birth registries of three tertiary hospitals,comparing two years[2019(Pre-COVID)]versu.[2020(COVID era)]u.ing three months of the year(October to December).The data relied u.on was obtained from birth registries in three bu.y maternity clinics all within tertiary hospitals in Sou.h-East Nigeria and we aimed at discu.sing the potential impacts of COVID-19 on fertility in *** secondary ou.come measu.es were;mode of delivery,booking statu. of the participants,maternal age and ***:There was a significant decrease in tertiary-hospital based birth rate by 92 births(P=0.0009;95%CI:-16.0519 to-4.1481)among mothers in all the three hospitals in 2020 du.ing the COVID period(post lockdown months)of October to *** was a significant difference in the mode of delivery for mothers(P=0.0096)with a 95%confidence interval of 1.0664 to 1.5916,as more gave birth throu.h vaginal delivery du.ing the 2020 COVID-19 period than ***:Tertiary-hospital based birth rates were redu.ed du.ing the *** mu.ti-centre stu.y extrapolated on possible factors that may have played a role in this decline in their birth rate,which inclu.es bu. is not limited to;decreased access to hospital care du. to the total lockdowns/cu.fews and worsening inflation and economic recession in the cou.try.
