We have investigated the mode of action of synthetic biocides,(2-(thiocyanomethylthio)benzothiazole(TCMTB),dichlorophen,(commonly used in leather industry for preservation)and natural biocides,oregano and eucalyptus oils,on Aeromonas hydrophila using Raman spectroscopy in collaboration with multivariate analysis and 2d correlation spectroscopy to evaluate whether Raman spectra acquired contained valuable information to study the action of biocides on bacterial *** growth of *** in clear and outer edge zone of inhibition differ in their reaction with different biocides,which allows us to highlight the differences as a characteristic of two kinds of *** classification helps identify oregano oil as the most effective biocide by altering clear and outer edge zone of *** disk diffusion assay method was used for screening biocide bacteria interactions and later analysed by Raman *** paper also presents the introduction of TCMTB and oregano oil into leather processing stages to examine and determine the antimicrobial effect as an application to real-world ***,we conclude that Raman spectroscopy with appropriate computational tools constitutes a powerful approach for screening biocides,which provide solutions to all the industries using biocides including leather industry,considering the potentially harmful effect of biocides to humans and the environment.

Objective： We enrolled retrospective data to determine the efficacy of combined chemotherapy and surgery for local tumour control and survival in patients with high-risk soft-tissue sarcomas. Methods： We collected data from 25 patients with high-risk soft-tissue sarcomas treated with four cycles of etoposide, ifosfamide and doxorubicin （EIA） followed by definitive surgery with or without postoperative radiotherapy and adjuvant chemotherapy. 21 patients received chemotherapy in a neoadjuvant/adjuvant clinical setting; eighteen of them completed adjuvant chemotherapy. Four patients received chemotherapy in an adjuvant setting only. Results： The objective response rate of neoadjuvant chemotherapy assessable in 21 patients was 43%. Including NEd （n=7） and partial remissions （n=3）, the radiographic response rate was 47.6% with additional 42.9% stable diseases （n=9）. Surgery was performed in two patients before completing four neoadjuvant chemotherapy cycles because of disease progression. Median overall survival for all patients was 21.6＋ months. After completion of chemotherapy, in 62% of patients R0-resection could be performed. Conclusion： High proportion of R0-resections supports the idea of tumour down-staging after neoadjuvant treatment. Response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy is predictive for improved local tumour control resulting in long-term survival benefit.

The aggressive and invasive nature of brain tumors has hampered progress in the design and implementation of efficacious therapies. The recent success of targeted therapies in other tumor types makes this an attractive area for research yet complicating matters is the ability of brain tumors to circumvent the targeted pathways to develop drug resistance. Effective therapies will likely need to target more than one signaling pathway or target multiple nodes within a given pathway. Key to identifying these targets is the elucidation of the driver and passenger molecules within these pathways. Animal models provide a useful tool with many advantages in the study of these pathways. These models provide a means to dissect the critical components of tumorigenesis, as well as serve as agents for preclinical testing. This review focuses on the use of the RCAS/tv-a mouse model of brain tumors and describes their unique ability to provide insight into the role of oncogene cooperation in tumor development and progression.

This paper presents a new model of scenarios, dedicated to the specification and verification of system be- haviours in the context of software product lines （SPL）. We draw our inspiration from some techniques that are mostly used in the hardware community, and we show how they could be applied to the verification of software components. Potential utilization of proteins for early detection and diagnosis of various diseases has drawn considerable interest in the development of protein-based detection techniques. Metal induced fluorescence enhancement offers the possibility of increasing the sensitivity of protein detection in clinical applications. We report the use of tunable plasmonic silver nanostructures for the fluorescence enhancement of a near-infrared （NIR） dye （Alexa Fluor 790）. Extensive fluorescence enhan- cement of -2 orders of magnitude is obtained by the nanoscale control of the Ag nanostructure dimensions and interparticle distance. These Ag nanostructures also enhanced fluorescence from a dye with very high quantum yield （7.8 fold for Alexa Fluor 488, quantum efficiency （Qy） = 0.92）. A combination of greatly enhanced excitation and an increased radiative decay rate, leading to an associated enhancement of the quantum efficiency leads to the large enhancement. These results show the potential of Ag nanostructures as metal induced fluorescence enhancement （MIFE） substrates for dyes in the NIR ＂biological window＂ as well as the visible region. Ag nanostructured arrays fabricated by colloidal lithography thus show great potential for NIR dye-based biosensing applications.

AIM:To report the etiologies,risk factors,treatments,and outcomes of infectious keratitis(IK)at a major Vietnamese eye ***:This is a retrospective review of all cases of IK at Vietnam National Eye Hospital(VNEH)in Hanoi,*** histories,demographics,clinical features,microbiological results,and treatment outcomes were ***:IK was diagnosed in 1974 eyes of 1952 patients,with ocular trauma being the greatest risk factor for IK(34.2%),frequently resulting from an agriculturerelated injur y(53.3%).The mean duration between symptom onset and presentation to VNEH was 19.3±14.4 d,and 98.7%of patients had been treated with topical antibiotic and/or antifungal agents prior to evaluation at *** on smear results of 1706 samples,the most common organisms identified were bacteria(n=1107,64.9%)and fungi(n=1092,64.0%),with identification of both bacteria and fungi in 614(36.0%)***-five of 374 bacterial cultures(14.7%)and 426 of 838 fungal cultures(50.8%)were positive,with the most commonly cultured pathogens being Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Streptococcus pneumonia,Fusarium spp.,and Aspergillus *** perforation and descemetocele developed in 391(19.8%)and 93(4.7%)eyes,*** treatment was successful in resolving IK in 50.4%eyes,while 337(17.1%)eyes underwent penetrating or anterior lamellar *** was performed in 7.1%of eyes,most commonly in the setting of fungal ***:Ocular trauma is a major risk factor for IK in Vietnam,which is diagnosed in almost 400 patients each year at *** this,and as approximately one quarter of the eyes that develop IK require corneal transplantation or evisceration,greater emphasis should be placed on the development of prevention and treatment programs for IK in Vietnam.

Characterization of Gibberellin Receptor Mutants of Barley （Hordeum vulgare L.）

The sequence of Gidl （a gene for a gibberellin （GA） receptor from rice） was used to identify a putative orthologue from barley. This was expressed in E. coil, and produced a protein that was able to bind GA in vitro with both structural specificity and saturability. Its potential role in GA responses was investigated using barley mutants with reduced GA sensitivity （gsel mutants）. Sixteen different gsel mutants each carried a unique nucleotide substitution in this sequence. In all but one case, these changes resulted in single amino acid substitutions, and, for the remaining mutant, a substitution in the 5＇ untranslated region of the mRNA is proposed to interfere with translation initiation. There was perfect linkage in segregating populations between new mutant alleles and the gsel phenotype, leading to the conclusion that the putative GId1 GA receptor sequence in barley corresponds to the Gsel locus. determination of endogenous GA contents in one of the mutants revealed enhanced accumulation of bioactive GA1, and a deficit of C20 GA precursors. All of the gsel mutants had reduced sensitivity to exogenous GA3, and to AC94377 （a GA analogue） at concentrations that are normally ＇saturating＇, but, at much higher concentrations, there was often a considerable response. The comparison between barley and rice mutants reveals interesting differences between these two cereal species in GA hormonal physiology.

AIM To understand the role of knowledge as a promoter of hepatitis C virus(HCV) screening among primary care physicians(PCP).METHOdS A 45-item online questionnaire assessing knowledge of HCV natural history, risk factors, and treatment was distributed to 163 PCP. Logistic regression, adjusted for survey responses, assessed associations between PCP knowledge of HCV natural history and treatment and birth cohort(i.e., birth between 1945 and 1965) screening. Response stratification and weighting were used to account for nonresponse and to permit extension of responses to the entire survey population. Associations between various predictors including demographic characteristics, level of training, and HCV treatment experience and HCV knowledge were *** Ninety-one individuals(55.8%) responded. Abnormal liver enzymes(49.4%), assessment of HCV-related risk factors(30.6%), and birth cohort membership(20%) were the leading HCV screening indications. Most PCP(64.7%) felt that the combination of risk-factor and birth cohort screening utilizing a self-administered survey while awaiting the physician(55.3%) were the most efficient screening practices. Implementation of birth cohort screening was associated with awareness of the recommendations(P-value = 0.01), knowledge of HCV natural history(P-value d prior management of HCV patients(P-value dge of HCV treatment was also knowledgeable about HCV natural history(P-value d screening recommendations was associated with HCV treatment knowledge(P-value = 0.03).CONCLUSION Comprehensive knowledge of HCV is critical to motivate HCV screening. PCP-targeted educational interventions are required to expand the HCV workforce and linkageto-care opportunities as we seek global HCV eradication.
