Cystic echinococcosis of the liver and lung treated by radiofrequency thermal ablation:An ex-vivo pilot experimental study in animal models

AIM:To evaluate radiofrequency thermal ablation (RTA) for treatment of cystic echinococcosis in animal models (explanted organs).METHODS:Infected livers and lungs from slaughtered animals,10 bovine and two ovine,were *** were photographed,and their volume,cyst content,germinal layer adhesion status,wall calcification and presence of daughter or adjacent cysts were evaluated by *** cysts were treated with RTA at 150 W,80℃,7 *** was monitored inside and outside the cyst.A second needle was placed inside the cyst for pressure *** treatment,all cysts were sectioned and examined by *** were defined as alive if a preserved germinal layer at histology was evident,and as successfully treated if the germinal layer was ***:The subjects of the study were 17 cysts (nine hepatic and eight pulmonary),who were treated with *** showed 100% success rate in both hepatic (9/9) and lung cysts (8/8);immediate volume reduction of at least 65%;layer of host tissue necrosis outside the cyst,with average extension of 0.64 cm for liver and 1.57 cm for lung;and endocyst attached to the pericystium both in hepatic and lung cysts with small and focal de novo endocyst detachment in just 3/9 hepatic ***:RTA appears to be very effective in killing hydatid cysts of explanted liver and *** duct and bronchial wall necrosis,persistence of endocyst attached to pericystium,should help avoid or greatly decrease in vivo post-treatment fistula occurrence and consequent overlapping complications that are common after surgery or percutaneous aspiration,injection and *** vivo studies are required to confirm and validate this new therapeutic approach.

The introduction and advancement of strain engineering has been one of the most critical features for the state-of-the-art nanoscale CMOS transistors. This paper provides an overview of the major strain engineering techniques that have remarkably re-shaped the advanced CMOS transistor architecture, including embedded SiGe (eSiGe), embedded Si:C (eSi:C), stress memorization technique (SMT), dual stress liners (DSL), and stress proximity technique (SPT). The advent of high-K/metal-gate (HKMG) also brings in additional strain benefit with its metal gate stressor (MGS) and replacement gate (RMG) process. Strain engineering continues to evolve and will remain to be one of the key performance enablers for the future generation of CMOS technologies.

Selective flocculation of fines

A number of factors that affect selective flocculation of fines have been identified and the effect of some of parameters on process behavior has been explained with the help of a few case studies. Experiments with francolite montmorillonite and francolite palygorskite mixtures indicated that francolite recovery depends on pH and the type of dispersant. The results showed that removal of multivalent ionic species on clay mineral surfaces seems to enhance flocculation, and separation efficiency increases as Ca 2+ ions are removed from the surface. When chalcopyrite and quartz are present together, it is however necessary to clean the flocs obtained to remove entrapped quartz.

Artificial intelligence for closed-loop ventilation therapy with hemodynamic control using the open lung concept

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to develop an automatic control system for mechanical ventilation therapy based on the open lung concept(OLC)using artificial *** addition,mean arterial blood pressure(MAP)is stabilized by means of a decoupling controller with automated noradrenaline(NA)dosage to ensure adequate systemic perfusion during ventilation therapy for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS).Design/methodology/approach–The aim is to develop an automatic control system for mechanical ventilation therapy based on the OLC using artificial *** addition,MAP is stabilized by means of a decoupling controller with automated NA dosage to ensure adequate systemic perfusion during ventilation therapy for patients with ***–Thisinnovativeclosed-loop mechanicalventilation system leadsto a significant improvement in oxygenation,regulates end-tidal carbon dioxide for appropriate gas exchange and stabilizes MAP to guarantee proper systemic perfusion during the ventilation *** limitations/implications–Currently,this automatic ventilation system based on the OLC can only be applied in animal trials;for clinical use,such a system generally requires a mechanical ventilator and sensors with medical approval for *** implications–For implementation of a closed-loop ventilation system,reliable signals from the sensors are a prerequisite for successful ***/value–Theexperiment with porcine dynamics demonstrates thefeasibility and usefulness of this automatic closed-loop ventilation therapy,with hemodynamic control for severe ***,this pilot study validated a new algorithm for implementation of the OLC,whereby all control objectives are fulfilled during the ventilation therapy with adequate hemodynamic control of patients with ARDS.

There is a growing body of research indicating that drones can disturb ***,it is usu-ally unclear whether the disturbance is due to visual or auditory ***,we examined the effect of drone flights on the behavior of great dusky swifts Cypseloides senex and white collared swifts Streptoprocne zonaris in 2 breeding sites where drone noise was obscured by environmental noise from waterfalls and any disturbance must be largely *** performed 12 experimental flights with a multirotor drone at different vertical,horizontal,and diagonal distances from the *** all flights,17%caused50 m the disturbance percentage does not exceed 20%,at60%.We recommend that flights with a multirotor drone during the breeding period should be con-ducted at a distance of>50 m and that recreational flights should be discouraged or conducted at larger distances(e.g.100 m)in nesting birds areas such as waterfalls,canyons,and caves.

Glossmark TM Technology: An Innovative Digital Watermark

Glossmark TM technology is a digital watermark process that embeds a visually striking gloss image within a high quality color print without the need of special papers or toners. It utilizes the angular dependence of gloss to create a differential-gloss image through the modulation of halftone structures. Both the primary image and the embedded Glossmark TM image can be distinctively viewed from different perspectives with little interference. The strong directional nature of the gloss and the subtle halftone modulation process make Glossmark TM images very difficult to detect by a scanner and even more challenging to reproduce through scanning and printing. The Glossmark TM technology is ideally suitable for document authentication and graphics enhancement. Its digital implementation provides a capability to embed variable data as digital watermarks into individual prints quickly and economically.

Modelling and Analysis of Base Isolated Structures with Friction Pendulum System Considering near Fault Events

The seismic behavior of base isolated structures with friction pendulum slide bearings devices subjected to near fault events characterized by significant vertical ground motion components is investigated. In particular, in order to evaluate the effects of vertical components on seismic response, non-linear dynamic analysis, carried out by using several numerical models, have been performed by considering two near-fault seismic events, L’Aquila 2009 and Emilia Romagna 2012. The obtained results show that increasing vertical seismic motion base shear significantly increases while relative displacements increase very little.

This bound is an invariant involving the area of∑, the volume and Minkowski quermassintegrals of the convex body that∑bounds. We also obtain a sufficient condition for a convex body to contain another in the Euclidean space R4.
