In this study we have demonstrated that both granulosa and theca-interstitial cells of hy-pophysectomized rat ovaries are capable of synthesizing tPA and *** of a GnRH agonist canmarkedly induce these gene expressions in the ovary in a cell-specific and time-coordinated manner,so that asurge of tPA mRNA and its activity in both granulosa and theca-interstitial cells was obtained just prior ***-interstitial cells make PAI-1 become the most active in the *** the amount PAI-1mRNA and its activity in the cells reach the maximum level 6 h before the tPA *** contrast,granulosacells produce only a little amount of PAI-1 (most increase tPA activity),and both PAI-1 mRNA and activityin the cells reach the maximum after *** coordinated regulation of tPA and PAI-1 in the ovarymay fine-tune the peak of tPA activity which may be important for the regulation of the ovulatory *** changes of tPA and PAI-1 in the ovarian cells of hypophysectomized rats during GnRHa-induced ovula-tion are similar to that in intact rats during hCG-induced ovulation,suggesting that the ovulatory process canbe modulated by different regulatory signals mediated by influencing the coordinated expression of both tPAand PAI-1.

Compelling experimental and clinical evidence suggests that epidermal growthfactor receptor (EGFR) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of a variety ofhuman cancers;thus,providing a strong rationale for the development of receptorantagonists as effective and specific therapeutic strategies for the treatment ofEGFR-expressing *** antibodies (mAb),owing to their highspecificity towards a given target,represent a unique class of novel cancertherapeutics.A number of anti-EGFR mAb are currently being developed in ourclinic,including two that have been approved by the United States Food andDrug Administration for the treatment of refractory metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC) and squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck (SCCHN).Cetuximab(Erbitux,IMC-C225),an IgG1 mAb,has demonstrated significant antitumor activity,both as a single agent and in combination with chemotherapeutics and radiation,in patients with refractory mCRC and SCCHN,***(Vectibix),an IgG2 mAb,has been approved as a single agent for the treatment ofpatients with refractory *** mAb,via blocking ligand/receptorinteractions,exert their biological activity via multiple mechanisms,includinginhibition of cell cycle progression,potentiation of cell apoptosis,inhibition ofDNA repair,inhibition of angiogenesis,tumor cell invasion and metastasis and,potentially,induction of immunological effector ***-EGFR anti-bodies have demonstrated good safety profiles and potent anticancer activity inour clinic and may prove to be efficacious agents in the treatment of a variety ofhuman malignancies.

A Generalized Statement of Highest-Entropy Principle for Stable Equilibrium and Non-Equilibrium in Many-Particle Systems

Among all statements of Second Law, the existence and uniqueness of stable equilibrium, for each given value of energy content and composition of constituents of any system, have been adopted to define thermodynamic entropy by means of the impossibility of Perpetual Motion Machine of the Second Kind (PMM2) which is a consequence of the Second Law. Equality of temperature, chemical potential and pressure in many-particle systems are proved to be necessary conditions for the stable equilibrium. The proofs assume the stable equilibrium and derive, by means of the Highest-Entropy Principle, equality of temperature, chemical potential and pressure as a consequence. A first novelty of the present research is to demonstrate that equality is also a sufficient condition, in addition to necessity, for stable equilibrium implying that stable equilibrium is a condition also necessary, in addition to sufficiency, for equality of temperature potential and pressure addressed to as generalized potential. The second novelty is that the proof of sufficiency of equality, or necessity of stable equilibrium, is achieved by means of a generalization of entropy property, derived from a generalized definition of exergy, both being state and additive properties accounting for heat, mass and work interactions of the system underpinning the definition of Highest-Generalized-Entropy Principle adopted in the proof.

We study all the possible weak limits of a minimizing sequence,for p-energy functionals, consisting of continuous maps between Riemannian manifolds subject to a Dirichlet boundary condition or a homotopy *** show that if p is not an integer,then any such weak limit is a strong limit and,in particular,a stationary p-harmonic map which is C1,α continuous away from a closed subset of the Hausdorff dimension ≤n-[p]-*** p is an integer,then any such weak limit is a weakly p-harmonic map along with a（n-p）-rectifiable Radon measure μ.Moreover,the limiting map is C1,α continuous away from a closed subset ∑=spt μ∪S with Hn-p（S）=***,we discuss the possible varifolds type theory for Sobolev mappings.

Theorem of Necessity and Sufficiency of Stable Equilibrium for Generalized Potential Equality between System and Reservoir

The literature reports that equality of temperature, equality of potential and equality of pressure between a system and a reservoir are necessary conditions for the stable equilibrium of the system-reservoir composite or, in the opposite and equivalent logical inference, that stable equilibrium is a sufficient condition for equality. The aim and the first novelty of the present study is to prove that equality of temperature, potential and pressure is also a sufficient condition for stable equilibrium, in addition to necessity, implying that stable equilibrium is a condition also necessary, in addition to sufficiency, for equality. The second novelty is that the proof of the sufficiency of equality (or the necessity of stable equilibrium) is attained by means of the generalization of the entropy property, derived from the generalization of exergy property, which is used to demonstrate that stable equilibrium is a logical consequence of equality of generalized potential. This proof is underpinned by the Second Law statement and the Maximum-Entropy Principle based on generalized entropy which depends on temperature, potential and pressure of the reservoir. The conclusion, based on these two novel concepts, consists of the theorem of necessity and sufficiency of stable equilibrium for equality of generalized potentials within a composite constituted by a system and a reservoir.

The present theoretical study represents a proposal aimed at investigating about the possibility of generalizing the canonical entropy-exergy relationship and the reservoir concept. The method adopted assumes the equality of pressure and chemical potential as necessary conditions of mutual stable equilibrium between a system and a reservoir in addition to the equality of temperature that constitutes the basis for defining entropy as deriving from energy and exergy concepts. An attempt is made to define mechanical and chemical entropy as an additional and additive component of generalized entropy formulated from generalized exergy property. The implications in exergy method and the possible engineering applications of this approach are outlined as future developments among the domains involved.

Autoregressive neural networks with exogenous variables for indoor temperature prediction in buildings

Thermal models of buildings are helpful to forecast their energy use and to enhance the control of their mechanical ***,these models are building-specific and require a tedious,error-prone and time-consuming development effort relying on skilled building energy *** to white-box and gray-box models,data-driven(black-box)models require less development time and a minimal amount of information about the building *** this paper,autoregressive neural network models are compared to gray-box and black-box linear models to simulate indoor *** models are trained,validated and compared to actual experimental data obtained for an existing commercial building in Montreal(QC,Canada)equipped with roof top units for air *** show that neural networks mimic more accurately the thermal behavior of the building when limited information is available,compared to gray-box and black-box linear *** gray-box model does not perform adequately due to its under-parameterized nature,while the linear models cannot capture non-linear phenomena such as radiative heat transfer and ***,the neural network models outperform the alternative models in the presented application,reaching a coefficient of determination R2 up to 0.824 and a root mean square error down to 1.11℃,including the error propagation over time for a 1-week period with a 5-minute *** considering a 50-hour time horizon,the best neural networks reach a much lower root mean square error of around 0.6℃,which is suitable for applications such as model predictive control.
