antimicrobial activity of calcium hydroxide and chlorhexidine on intratubular Candida albicans

This study investigated the efficacy of calcium hydroxide and chlorhexidine gel for the elimination of intratubular Candida albicans (***).Human single-rooted teeth contaminated with *** were treated with calcium hydroxide,2%chlorhexidine gel, calcium hydroxide plus 2%chlorhexidine gel,or saline(0.9%sodium chloride) as a positive *** samples obtained at depths of 0-100 and 100-200μm from the root canal system were analyzed for *** load by counting the number of colony forming units and for the percentage of viable *** using fluorescence ***,the antimicrobial activity of calcium hydroxide and the 2%chlorhexidine gel was evaluated by counting the number of colony forming *** 14 days of intracanal medication,there was a significant decrease in the number of *** colony forming units at a depth of 0-100μm with chlorhexidine treatment either with or without calcium hydroxide compared with the calcium hydroxide only ***,there were no differences in the number of colony forming units at the 100-200μm depth for any of the medications *** viability was also evaluated by vital staining techniques and fluorescence microscopy *** activity against *** significantly increased at both depths in the chlorhexidine groups with and without calcium hydroxide compared with the groups treated with calcium hydroxide *** with only chlorhexidine or chlorhexidine in combination with calcium hydroxide were effective for elimination of ***.

Feasibility of the 2-point method to determine the load-velocity relationship variables during the countermovement jump exercise

Purpose:This study aimed to examine the reliability and validity of load-velocity(L-V)relationship variables obtained through the 2-point method using different load combinations and velocity ***:Twenty men performed 2 identical sessions consisting of 2 countermovement jumps against 4 external loads(20 kg,40 kg,60 kg,and80 kg)and a heavy squat against a load linked to a mean velocity(MV)of 0.55 m/s(load_(0.55)).The L-V relationship variables(load-axis intercept(L_(0)),velocity-axis intercept(v_(0)),and area under the L-V relationship line(A_(line)))were obtained using 3 velocity variables(MV,mean propulsive velocity(MPV),and peak velocity)by the multiple-point method including(20-40-60-80-load_(0.55))and excluding(20-40-60-80)the heavy squat,as well as from their respective 2-point methods(20-load_(0.55)and 20-80).Results:The L-V relationship variables were obtained with an acceptable reliability(coefncient of variation(CV)≤7.30%;intra-class correlation coefficient>0.63).The reliability of L_(0)and v_(0)was comparable for both methods(CV_(ratio)(calculated as higher value/lower value):1.11-1.12),but the multiple-point method provided Al_(ine)with a greater reliability(CV_(ratio)=1.26).The use of a heavy squat provided the L-V relationship variables with a comparable or higher reliability than the use of a heavy countermovement jump load(CV_(ratio):1.06-1.19).The peak velocity provided the load-velocity relationship variables with the greatest reliability(CV_(ratio):1.15-1.86)followed by the MV(CV_(ratio):1.07-1.18),and finally the *** 2-point methods only revealed an acceptable validity for the MV and MPV(effect size≤0.19;Pearson s product-moment correlation coefficient≥0.96;Lin's concordance correlation coefficient≥0.94).Conclusion:The 2-point method obtained from a heavy squat load and MV or MPV is a quick,safe,and reliable procedure to evaluate the lower-body maximal neuromuscular capacities through the L-V relationship.

Pisco grape pomace:Iron/copper speciation and antioxidant properties,towards their comprehensive utilization

The pisco and wine industry produces hundreds of tons of grape pomace each year in Chile,generating environmental problems,and demanding urgent strategies for its *** aim of this work was to study the pisco grape pomace based on a physicochemical characterization,an iron/copper speciation analysis,and the optimization for polyphenols recovery,establishing the polyphenolic profile,antioxidant properties,and the Fe^(2+)/Cu^(2+) chelating activity,to promote their revalorization as an ingredient with potential application in the food *** chemical characterization showed mainly high values for crude protein(15.36%dw)and potassium(9240.66 mg/kg).The Fe/Cu speciation depicted that iron and copper soluble forms in pisco pomace flour represented 70.57%and 52.18%,respectively,regarding total *** optimized extract showed mainly pyrogallol,catechin and epicatechin,with concentrations of 1078.43±60.14μg/g,883.20±7.57μg/g and,751.76±23.04μg/g,respectively,with a relevant antioxidant capacity by Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity(ORAC)of 1402.15μmol TE/g dw GPE and,a better chelating ability to complex Fe^(2+) than Cu^(2+).The pisco pomace was for the first time chemically characterize,showing it as a potential source of minerals and antioxidant biocompounds,making it a good candidate for nutritional applications,as a rich source of organic matter or even could be potentially utilized to produce value-added commodities,toward a circular economy.

Introduction: At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, a drop in the number of patients treated for cardiac emergencies raised concern about cardiovascular mortality in that period. An increase in care delay for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) may have affected clinical outcomes. Objectives: To analyze delay times and clinical outcomes of patients with STEMI undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI), before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Retrospective observational study that included patients with STEMI undergoing PPCI from December 2018 to July 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic cases were divided into two groups: pandemic I—from March to August 2020;and pandemic II—from September 2020 to July 2021. Patients were compared according to the period of hospitalization. Primary outcomes were delay times in assistance and clinical outcomes (acute kidney injury [AKI], post-procedural vascular complications and in-hospital mortality). Results: 108 patients were included, 39 (36.1%) in the pre-pandemic period, 13 (12.1%) in pandemic I and 56 (51.8%) in pandemic II. Time from onset of symptoms to arrival at the service and door-to-balloon time did not differ significantly among groups. Vascular complications were more frequent during the pandemic (I and II) than in the pre-pandemic period (2.5% pre-pandemic vs 15.4% pandemic vs 12.5% pandemic II;p = 0.03). AKI incidence was similar in all three periods. There was a non-significant increase in in-hospital mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: In patients with STEMI, there was an increase in vascular complications and a trend toward increased mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic. Delay times to admission and reperfusion did not differ significantly between before and during the pandemic.

Depression and dementia can lead to generalised cognitive and memory ***,differentiating these disorders is important and *** is a term used clinically to describe symptoms that resemble dementia but are caused by other conditions(most frequently depression),rather than being recognised as an official *** is characterised by a cognitive impairment that mimics dementia but which does not have its origin in neurological degeneration,deriving instead from functional psychiatric *** condition is more commonly observed in older adults(particularly those over the age of 50 or 60 years),and its risk factors overlap with those for *** is essentially characterised by deficits in memory,executive function and speech and,therefore,can easily be confused with dementia,although there are aspects that allow its *** pseudodementia can be difficult,especially as there is significant overlap between its symptoms and those of other ***,it is important to recognise characteristic aspects of this disorder,as its correct identification is essential for proper treatment.

This study evaluates the on use of crushed rocks(remineralizers)to increase soil fertility levels and which contributed to increase agricultural productivity,recovery of degraded areas,decontamination of water,and carbon *** use of these geological materials is part of the assumptions of rock technology and,indirectly,facilitates the achievement of sustainable development goals related to soil management,climate change,and the preservation of water *** over the past 50 years on silicate rocks focused on soil fertility management and agricultural *** recently,the combined use with microorganisms and organic correctives have shown positive results to mitigate soil degradation;to expand carbon sequestration and storage;and to contribute to the adsorption of contaminants from water and *** this article we show results obtained in several countries and we show that this technology can contribute to the sustainability of agriculture,as well as to reverse global *** mineral nutrients are released more slowly from these types of inputs,they remain in the soil for a longer time,stimulating the soil *** addition,they are a technology to soluble synthetic fertilizers replace,since the few nutrients derived from such inputs not consumed by plants are lost by leaching,contaminating groundwater and water *** addition,conventional methods rely heavily on chemical pesticides which cause damage to soil’s microfauna(responsible for the decomposition of organic matter and nutrient cycling)and the loss of organic carbon(in the form of dioxide),which is quickly dispersed in the *** rock powders are applied in natura,have long-lasting residual effects and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Major and minor risk factors for postoperative abdominoplasty complications:A case series

Background: Although abdominoplasty is a safe and popular surgery, it is associated with a higher complication rate than other body contouring procedures. Therefore, identifying predictive factors of major and minor complications in patients who have undergone abdominoplasty is necessary to achieve better treatment outcomes after major weight ***: This retrospective study analyzed the medical records of patients who underwent abdominoplasty between January 2016 and December 2019. The inclusion criteria were patients aged >18 years who underwent abdominoplasty as the only surgical procedure and had adequate follow-up. Other patients were excluded from the study. Statistical evaluation was performed using SPSS 20.0;statistical significance was set at a P-value of<***: The study included a total of 152 patients, of whom 146(96.1%) were women and 6(3.9%) were *** mean patient age was 41.1 ± 9.8 years. Comorbidities were reported in 67 patients(44.07%). A direct proportional relationship was observed between the weight of the resected tissue and occurrence of general complications(P=0.01), and the presence of comorbidities increased the occurrence of minor(P=0.04) and major complications(P=0.01).Conclusion: Abdominoplasty is an aesthetic surgical plastic procedure, and its application has increased over the years. Despite its popularity, patient safety requires further attention due to the high risk of complications. It is essential to study all risk factors.

Chemical proﬁles of non-invasive biological material,such as feces,have great potential to study elusive animals or those with low population ***,we use a metabolomic approach to evaluate Neotropical mustelids as a biological model to describe the diversity of the metabolites present in fecal samples,as well as to evaluate the potential of chemical proﬁles for taxonomic *** collected fecal samples from captive individuals of 5 species of mustelids occurring in Brazil and analyzed them by liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass *** 200 compounds have been annotated;“bile acids,alcohols and derivatives”was the most expressive class in the metabolome of all the *** successfully discriminated 3 taxonomic groups:1—tayra(Eira barbara);2—otters(Lontra longicaudis and Pteronura brasiliensis;1);and 3—grisons(Galictis vittata and Galictis cuja).Several compounds seemed to be associated with food intake and the digestive process,while others were found for theﬁrst time in Neotropical *** concluded that mustelids show high metabolome diversity and that species-speciﬁc identiﬁcation through metabolomic proﬁles is possible,thus contributing to the development and implementation of additional non-invasive approaches in the study of mustelids.

First 100 cases of transvesical single-port robotic radical prostatectomy
