Size tuning and oxygen plasma induced pore formation on silica nanoparticles

Silica nanoparticles have been prepared from tetraethylorthosilicate dissolved in ethanol followed by base-catalyzed condensation. Earlier works reported that at least four parameters, namely concentration of tetraethylorthosilicate, ethanol, water and ammonia solution are needed to be optimized for the size tuning of silica nanoparticles. In this work size tuning of 5 nm-250 nm has been achieved by varying a single synthesis parameter i.e., the concentration of ammonia solution. Oxygen plasma was found to be successful for generating pores on silica nanoparticles without using any structure directing agents. The properties and morphology of nanoparticles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy.

Risk prediction model for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in adult cardiac allograft recipients

Over the past two decades, numerous non-coding RNAs(ncRNAs) have been identified in different biological systems including virology, especially in large DNA viruses such as herpesviruses. As a representative oncogenic alphaherpesvirus, Marek’s disease virus(MDV) causes an important immunosuppressive and rapid-onset neoplastic disease of poultry, namely Marek’s disease(MD). Vaccinations can efficiently prevent the onset of MD lymphomas and other clinical disease, often heralded as the first successful example of vaccination-based control of cancer. MDV infection is also an excellent model for research into virally-induced tumorigenesis. Recently, great progress has been made in understanding the functions of ncRNAs in MD ***, we give a review of the discovery and identification of MDV-encoded viral miRNAs, focusing on the genomics,expression profiles, and emerging critical roles of MDV-1 miRNAs as oncogenic miRNAs(oncomiRs) or tumor suppressor genes involved in the induction of MD lymphomas. We also described the involvements of host cellular miRNAs, lincRNAs, and circRNAs participating in MDV life cycle, pathogenesis, and/or tumorigenesis. The prospects, strategies, and new techniques such as the CRISPR/Cas9-based gene editing applicable for further investigation into the ncRNA-mediated regulatory mechanisms in MDV pathogenesis/oncogenesis were also discussed, together with the possibilities of future studies on antiviral therapy and the development of new efficient MD vaccines.

background Melatonin is a hormone which is produced from pineal gland in human and is said to have various impacts in human body like controlling sleep wake cycle, regulating the immune and cardiovascular system and regulating the peripheral organ functioning to name a few. Researchers have reported that the melatonin levels correlates with cancer *** In this review article, focus has been given to the therapeutic applications and impact of melatonin hormone in human behavior and physiologic activities. Through this article we aim in compiling the scattered information regarding melatonin and its various aspects of importance in human *** We made an analysis of existing hypothesis and studies published on melatonin and circadian rhythm, factors effecting Melatonin secretions in body, sleep disturbances and cancer risks and melatonin therapy in cancer *** Melatonin’s role as an endogenous synchronizer, growing evidence suggests its anti-oxidative activity as well as its having a role in modulating immune responses. Fluctuating melatonin levels can be boosted by ingesting products containing melatonin. A large portion of the examinations detailed by the researchers clearly conclude that keeping up an impeccable sleep-wake cycle and having a healthy diet is extremely important to keep up the regular melatonin levels and in order to stay *** Melatonin is considered as a critical hormone that controls and regulates many functions in our body. Melatonin production is emphatically related to the night time duration. Its most absolute biological role is to convey information to the body about day length for a variety of physiologic functions. Variability of Summer Monsoon Rainfall in India on Inter-Annual and Decadal Time Scales

Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall （ISMR） exhibits a prominent inter-annual variability known as troposphere biennial oscillation.A season of deficient June to September monsoon rainfall in India is followed by warm sea surface temperature （SST） anomalies over the tropical Indian Ocean and cold SST anomalies over the westem Pacific *** anomalies persist until the following monsoon,which yields normal or excessive *** rainfall in India has shown decadal variability in the form of 30 year epochs of alternately occurring frequent and infrequent drought monsoons since 1841,when rainfall measurements began in *** oscillations of monsoon rainfall and the well known decadal oscillations in SSTs of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans have the same period of approximately 60 years and nearly the same temporal *** both of these variabilities,anomalies in monsoon heat source,such as deep convection,and middle latitude westerlies of the upper troposphere over south Asia have prominent roles.

An experimental study of elastic properties of dragonfly-like flapping wings for use in biomimetic micro air vehicles(bMAVs)

This article studies the elastic properties of several biomimetic micro air vehicle（bMAV）wings that are based on a dragonfly *** are a new class of unmanned micro-sized air vehicles that mimic the flapping wing motion of flying biological organisms（e.g.,insects,birds,and bats）.Three structurally identical wings were fabricated using different materials：acrylonitrile butadiene styrene（AbS）,polylactic acid（PLA）,and *** wing frame structures were fabricated from these materials and then a nanocomposite film was adhered to them which mimics the membrane of an actual *** wings were then attached to an electromagnetic actuator and passively flapped at frequencies of 10-250 Hz.A three-dimensional high frame rate imaging system was used to capture the flapping motions of these wings at a resolution of 320 pixels x 240 pixels and 35000 frames per *** maximum bending angle,maximum wing tip deflection,maximum wing tip twist angle,and wing tip twist speed of each wing were measured and compared to each other and the actual dragonfly *** results show that the AbS wing has considerable flexibility in the chordwise direction,whereas the PLA and acrylic wings show better conformity to an actual dragonfly wing in the spanwise *** studies have shown that the aerodynamic performance of a bMAV flapping wing is enhanced if its chordwise flexibility is increased and its spanwise flexibility is ***,the AbS wing（fabricated using a 3D printer） shows the most promising results for future applications.

Pore structure effects on the kinetics of methanol oxidation over nanocast mesoporous perovskites

Mesoporous LaMnO3 perovskite catalysts with high surface area were synthesized by using the recently developed hard templating method designated as ＂nanocasting＂.Ordered mesoporous silica designated as SbA-15 was used as the hard *** was found that the surface area of the nanocast perovskites can be tuned（80–190 m2/g）by varying the aging temperature of the SbA-15 *** LaMnO3 catalysts showed high conversion efficiencies for the total oxidation of methanol under steady state conditions,the one with the highest value of surface area being the best catalysts,as *** studies were performed for all of the synthesized *** constants were found to vary in accordance with the specific surface area of the nanocast catalyst which depends on the aging temperature of the parent *** the rate constants obtained from experimental conversions at various space velocities（19500 to 78200 h〈sup〉–1）,values of activation energy and pre-exponential factor for the three nanocast LaMnO3 catalysts were determined by the linear regression of the Arrhenius *** is observed that the activation energy for all the catalysts remain constant irrespective of the variation in specific surface ***,a linear relationship was found to exist between the pre-exponential factor and specific surface areas of the catalysts indicating that the rates per unit surface area remains the same for all the catalysts.
