effect of extracellular polymeric substances on Dolichospermum aggregation during temperature rise

Dolichospermum,a typical model filamentous of cyanobacteria,has the potential to cause severely *** polymeric substances(ePSs)are considered to influence the aggregation of the algae,and temperature is a significant factor affecting ePSs ***,the mechanism of how ePSs affects the aggregation of Dolichospermum is still unclear because the structure and composition of ePSs are *** this study,the effects of ePSs on the aggregation of Dolichospermum during the rise of temperature(7-37℃)were *** results showed that the concentration of extracellular polysaccharides and proteins changed significantly with increasing temperature(Pe increasing temperature,the polysaccharide content of ePSs increased from 20.34 to 54.64 mg/L,and the polysaccharides in the soluble ePS(S-ePS)layer changed *** protein content reached maximum value at 21℃(14.52 mg/L)and varied significantly in S-ePS and loosely bound ePS(LB-ePS).In the ePSs matrix,humus substances and protein were main components of S-ePS and LB-ePS,and protein was the main component of tightly bound ePS(TB-ePS).Secondly,the cell density of Dolichospermum increased during the temperature rise while the aggregation ratio ***,zeta potential and surface thermodynamic analysis of Dolichospermum revealed that the interfacial free energy and electrostatic repulsion increased gradually with increasing temperature,which further reduced the aggregation of ***,principal component analysis(PCA)analysis showed the aggregation of Dolichospermum was directly related to the changes of protein in ePSs(especially S-ePS and LB-ePS)and zeta potential,and polysaccharides in ePSs inhibited the aggregation of *** on these results,it was illustrated that the composition and concentration of ePSs affected the cell surface properties of Dolichospermum with the change of temperature and thus affected the aggregation of D

Prediction of the seismic behavior of an underground railway station and a tunnel in Napoli(Italy)

The presence of eclogites within continental crust is a key indicator of collisional *** within the eastern Glenelg basement inlier of the Northern Highland Terrane(NHT)have been redated in order to provide more accurate constraints on the timing of collision within the northern arm of the Grenville *** eclogites yield dates of ca.1200 Ma which are interpreted to record the onset of continent–continent interaction,and the NHT as a whole is thought to represent the lower plate in successive 1200–1000 Ma collision *** eastern Glenelg basement inlier is viewed as a fragment of the leading edge of the NHT continental basement that was partially subducted along a suture and then exhumed back up the subduction *** in ages of igneous protoliths and intrusive histories,and metamorphic events(this paper)between the NHT basement and the Laurentian foreland,suggests that they were separate crustal blocks until after ca.1600 *** therefore suggest that:(1)the NHT represents a fragment of Archean–Paleoproterozoic crust that was reworked within the ca.1.7–1.6 Ga Labradorian-Gothian belt,although whether it was derived from Laurentia or Baltica is uncertain,and(2)amalgamation of the NHT with the Laurentian foreland did not occur until the terminal stages of the Grenville collision at ca.1000 Ma.

Gas-Solution Interface Technique as a simple method to produce inorganic microtubes with scroll morphology

Over the past decade, numerous studies have dealt with new properties of inorganic nanomaterials with improved characteristics due to a particular morphology, and new facile methods to produce such materials have been reported. Inorganic microtubes can be designed for multifunctional materials with highly specific surface area. These microtubes can act as individual on-chip components of miniature devices or off-chip micromachines. The paper first discusses the main regularities of the reactions at the gas-solution interface and then goes on to present the basic principles of the Gas-Solution Interface Technique(GSIT), thus demonstrating a new way of facile synthesis of inorganic rolled-up microtubes. A distinctive feature of the technique is the formation of a gradient solid layer on the surface of the aqueous solution as a result of the gaseous and liquid reagents interaction. When dried in the air, this thin layer is capable of self-folding into microtubes with specific morphology. The paper considers the specific features of microtubes obtained by GSIT from numerous classes of inorganic compounds, including oxides, hydroxides, sulfides, fluorides. Further areas of possible practical applications of GSIT microtubes are discussed. The prospects of future development of the GSIT are outlined.

Soil Organic Matter Composition in Coastal and Continental Date Palm Systems: Insights from Tunisian Oases

In Tunisia, the coastal Chenini oasis is characterized by a lush vegetation cover, whereas more inland continental oases(e.g., the Guettaya oasis) have a very scarce vegetation cover. For sustaining date palm production in these areas, organic fertilizers are applied,either spread on the soil surface(in Chenini) or buried under a sand layer(in Guettaya). We examined at a molecular level how these management techniques affect soil organic matter composition in oasis systems. A dominance of fresh plant input for Guettaya was indicated by solid-state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy signals, which was most pronounced in the uppermost soil close to palms. evidence for more degraded organic matter was found in deeper soil near the palms, as well as in the soil distant from the palms. Amino sugar contents were low in the uppermost Guettaya soil near the palms. The overall microbial amino sugar residue contents were similar in range as those found in other dryland environments. With increasing distance from trees, the amino sugar contents declined in Guettaya, where the palms grow on bare soil, but this was not the case for Chenini, which has multi-layer vegetation cover under palms. In agreement with the results from previous dryland studies, the soil microbial community in both oasis systems was dominated by fungi in topsoil, and a shift toward bacteria-derived residues in subsurface soil. This might be due to higher variability of temperature and moisture in topsoil and/or lower degradability of fungal remains;however, further research is required to confirm this hypothesis.

Soil Organic Carbon Loss and Turnover Resulting from Forest Conversion to Maize Fields in eastern Thailand

Soil organic carbon(SOC) content and its stable carbon isotopic composition(within the upper 1 m) were measured to determine the e?ect of land-use changes from dry evergreen forest to maize fields in eastern *** land cover maps,derived from aerial photography and satellite images for years 1989,1996,and 2002 were used in association with field surveys and farmer interviews to derive land-use history and to assist in study site *** from forest to maize cultivation for the duration of 12 years reduced SOC stocks at the rate of 6.97 Mg C ha-1 *** was most pronounced in the top 10 cm soil layer,which was 47% after 12 years of *** carbon isotope data revealed that the main fraction lost was forest-derived *** low input rates of maize-derived C were not sufficient to maintain SOC at the level prior to forest *** 12 years of continuous maize cultivation,the maize-derived C fraction made up about 20% of total SOC(5 Mg ha-1 of the total 25.31 Mg ha-1).

Determination of Oxide in FLINAK Melt by electrochemical Titration Technique

The use of K2NbF7 as a probe solute for the cyclic voltammetric determination of oxide in FLINAK melts was studied and demonstrated. This method is based on a complex reaction and the peak current density of NbF72- reduction. The reaction constant was determined to be very large at 973 K. A cyclic voltammetric standard addition experiment was also employed to determine the amount of oxide in FLNAK melt. The oxide content of FLINAK melts is equal to the amount of Nb(V) added minus the amount of NbF72- which is obtained from the voltammogram.

VCSeL-based Raman technology for extended reach time and reference frequency transfer systems

This paper experimentally demonstrates a low-cost energy efficient alternative technique for long reach transfer of accurate reference frequency(RF) clock signals for extended reach RF distribution *** is achieved by adopting distributed forward Raman amplification and vertical cavity surface emitting laser(VCSeL) technology.A class 10 G VCSeL is directly modulated with a 2 GHz RF clock *** exploiting a forward Raman pump with the flat gain of 8.6 dB, a 100.8-km-long standard single mode fiber(SMF) RF clock distribution is experimentally achieved.A maximum phase noise of-117.66 dBc/Hz at offset frequency of 100 kHz and an RF clock jitter(RMS) of 5.36 ps is experimentally measured for 100.8-km-long fiber transmission without forward Raman ***, with the adoption of forward Raman amplification, the measured phase noise and RMS improves to-86.59 dBc/Hz and 1.7 ps, *** Raman pumping offers distributed high flat gain over a wide spectra range(over 35.5 nm), while VCSeLs offer cost effective broadband signal distribution, therefore keeping the network optics investment low.

Novel insights into paternity skew in a polyandrous social wasp

The larval stages of the cestode parasites belonging to the genus echinococcus grow within internal organs of humans and a range of animal *** resulting diseases,collectively termed echinococcoses,include major neglected tropical diseases of humans and *** larvae are outwardly protected by the laminated layer(LL),an acellular structure that is unique to this *** LL is based on a fibrillar meshwork made up of mucins,which are decorated by galactose-rich *** addition,in the species cluster termed *** sensu lato,the LL features nano-deposits of the calcium salt of myo-inositol hexakisphosphate(Insp_(6)).The main purpose of our article is to update the immunobiology of the *** recent advances in this area are(i)the demonstration of LL“debris”at the infection site and draining lymph nodes,(ii)the characterization of the decoy activity of calcium Inp6 with respect to complement,(iii)the evidence that the LL mucin carbohydrates interact specifically with a lectin receptor expressed in Kupffer cells(Clec4F),and(iv)the characterization of what appear to be receptor-independent effects of LL particles on dendritic cells and *** information is missing on the immunology of this intriguing structure:we discuss gaps in knowledge and propose possible avenues for research.
