北京城市图书馆打造了一片既现代又经典永恒的天地,为北京丰富的文化和知识氛围提供了一处集学习、知识共享和社交等功能为一体的综合场所。在数字时代重塑图书馆的重要性为了让图书馆在21世纪重新焕发活力,设计师们对图书馆的外观、运行方式以及服务社区的方式提出了新的设想。为了重塑图书馆作为公共与知识生活重要支柱的作用,而不仅仅只是一座藏书楼,设计师将该建筑定位成学习、文化和社区中心。北京城市图书馆汲取了图书馆为满足其时代和地方需求而寻找创新对策的历史渊源,将开放式的思想交流和人际对话作为其核心宗旨。馆内还为展览、表演、会议和古籍修复等需求提供专用空间。

Size-asymmetric root competition in deep,nutrient-poor soil

Aims There is much evidence that plant competition below ground is size symmetric,*** competing plants share contested resources in proportion to their *** researchers have hypothesized that a patchy distribution of soil nutrients could result in size-asymmetric root *** tested this *** In a greenhouse experiment,Triticum aestivum(wheat)individ-uals of different initial sizes were grown alone or with below-ground competition from one neighbour,in 1 m tall,narrow containers in a nitrogen-poor field soil with(i)no added nitro-gen,(ii)nitrogen fertilizer mixed into the upper 50 cm,and(iii)the same amount of fertilizer mixed into a 20-30 cm deep *** measured total leaf length throughout the experiment,and above-ground biomass and nitrogen concentration at *** also measured root depth and frequency over time in a subset of *** Findings Competing plants were half the size of non-competing plants,meaning that root competition was very *** competition was size-asym-metric to some degree in all soil *** larger than the target plant showed a greater per-unit-size effect on target growth than neighbours smaller than the *** variation increased over time for competing individuals,but decreased for non-competing *** to expectations,the presence of a high-nutrient patch reduced the strength and size asymmetry of competition *** asym-metry in poor,deep soils may result from directionality in resource interception as roots compete for limited nutrients by growing deeper into soil layers that have not yet been *** competition can be size asymmetric,but not to the same degree as competition for light.

This critical review of the literature shows that there is a close link between the microbiome,the gut,and the brain in Parkinson's *** vagus nerve,the main component of the parasympathetic nervous system,is involved in the regulation of immune response,digestion,heart rate,and control of *** can detect microbiota metabolites through its afferents,transferring this gut information to the central nervous *** and clinical studies have shown the important role played by the gut microbiome and gut-related factors in disease development and progression,as well as treatment *** findings suggest that the gut microbiome may be a valuable target for new therapeutic strategies for Parkinson's *** studies are needed to better understand the underlying biology and how this axis can be modulated for the patient's benefit.

Despite the availability of an effective measles virus(MeV)vaccine and efforts to increase vaccine coverage by the WHO,UNICEF,and their partners,MeV has not been eradicated,and the estimated global measles death rose from 89,780 in 2016 to 207,500 in 2019.1 Because there is an effective measles vaccine,antiviral development for measles has not been prioritized,but recent outbreaks have highlighted the need for drugs to prevent transmission in unvaccinated populations and to protect and treat immunocompromised *** identified several neutralizing mouse monoclonal antibodies(mAbs)that target the MeV fusion(F)protein in its prefusion state2 and inhibit fusion and viral *** engineered a single-chain variable fragment(scFv)from the most potent anti-MeV F *** scFv retains the ability to inhibit fusion and prevents infection in vitro,and intranasal administration of the scFv antibody construct prevents infection in vivo.

Auxo-endocrinological features in a cohort of internationally adopted children in Italy

Background Internationally adopted children (IAC) can present growth impairment at arrival,which usually recovers over ***,a major prevalence of precocious puberty has been reported in this *** All IAC referred to a tertiary level hospital in Italy from January 2016 to June 2017,underwent a standardized screening protocol and were prospectively enrolled in the *** analyses of possible risk factors for growth impairment and precocious puberty were *** Overall,422 children were included (males 59.5%),with median age of 6.5 years (IQR 9.4-3.9),29.9% adopted from Europe,26.8% from Asia,23.9% from Africa and 19.4% from Latin *** were in Italy from a median of 75 days (IQR 137.0-38.7).Stunting was observed in 12.9% of children,wasting in 4.3%,underweight in 12.9%.Precocious puberty was diagnosed in 2.2% of children.17.1% IAC had diagnosis of special *** alcohol spectrum disorders represented the 41.7% of children with special needs and 48.1% of Russian *** predictive factors for stunting were age < 5 years,a diagnosis of special need and having been living in Italy for < 60 days since the *** Stunting among IAC is a frequent finding especially in children < 5 years and in those with special needs,independently from their geographical origin.
