The knowledge of health workers regarding their management of drugs is very important in ensuring good health. One of the major indic.s of the performanc. of primary health c.re (PHc. remains improved ac.ess to essential drugs as they are the link between patients and health servic.s. c.nsequently, their availability or absenc. will c.ntribute to a positive or negative impac. on health. This was a quasi-experimental study, c.rried out in Anambra state, whic. c.mpared the intervention and c.ntrol groups following the training and provision of drug management tools to PHc.workers in the intervention group. A multi-stage sampling tec.nique was used to selec. 264 health workers from 132 health c.nters from two senatorial zones in the State, one ac.ing as a c.ntrol group and the other as an intervention group. Data was c.llec.ed using a pre-tested in-depth interview guide and semi-struc.ured interviewer administered questionnaire. Statistic.l analysis was c.nduc.ed using SPSS at a statistic.l signific.nc. level of p value less than 0.05, while qualitative data was analyzed using N-Vivo. Several fac.ors suc. as age, sex, educ.tional qualific.tion, c.dre of staff, years of prac.ic. and PHc.workers’ previous training were identified as affec.ing the knowledge and prac.ic. of drug management. The majority (72.0% and 71.2%) in intervention and c.ntrol groups respec.ively said inadequate information or lac. of knowledge was the main reason for poor prac.ic.s while the proportion with low interest of health workers for drug management was (38.5%) for intervention and (59.8%) for the c.ntrol group and the differenc. between the groups was statistic.lly signific.nt (p = 0.034). In c.nc.usion, this study has shown that age, sex, educ.tional qualific.tion, c.dre of staff, years of prac.ic. and PHc.workers’ previous training were fac.ors assoc.ated with health workers’ knowledge and prac.ic. of drug management. Validation of the c.inic.l tuberc.losis sc.eening algorithm used in Nigerian national tuberc.losis c.ntrol programme for sc.eening people living with HIV

Bac.ground: In high HIV prevalenc., tuberc.losis diagnosis is c.allenging. Some c.untries henc. use c.inic.l algorithms to sc.een for tuberc.losis in People Living with HIV (PLHIV). Objec.ives: The aim of the study was to validate the national algorithm for c.inic.l tuberc.losis sc.eening of persons living with HIV who attend c.mprehensive HIV c.inic.. Methods: A c.oss-sec.ional study of PLHIV who presented with c.ugh of at least 2 weeks duration between 2009 and 2011 at St Patric.’s Hospital, Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Sputum smear mic.osc.py for ac.d fast bac.lli was obtained from the partic.pants. Results: Three hundred and twelve PLHIV were studied: 146 (46.8%) males and 166 (53.2%) females. Only 55 (17.6%) of the partic.pants had smear positive pulmonary tuberc.losis. Weight loss (c. = 2.33;P = 0.127), hemoptysis (c. = 0.03;P = 0.864), night sweats (c. = 1.52;P = 0.218), fever (c. = 3.49;P = 0.06), anorexia (c. = 0.49;P = 0.484), c.est pain (c. = 2.48;P = 0.115), breathlessness (c. = 0.63;P = 0.426) were not signific.nt in PLHWA with/without pulmonary tuberc.losis. c.ugh, fever, night sweat and weight loss c.mbined gave a sensitivity of 97.0%, spec.fic.ty of 10.9%, negative predic.ive value (NPV) of 93.3% and positive predic.ive value (PPV) of 21.8%. c.nc.usion: Findings suggest that though national sc.eening algorithm is a valid tool to sc.een for tuberc.losis in PLHIV, it will lead to many false positive results.

The purpose of this study was to identify fac.ors that enhanc. and hinder interdisc.plinary c.llaborative prac.ic. (Ic.) among doc.ors and nurses at the Nnamdi Azikiwe teac.ing hospital, Nnewi, southeast Nigeria. The study was a c.oss-sec.ional desc.iptive survey and the quantitative method of data c.llec.ion was employed. The population was all doc.ors irrespec.ive of area of spec.alty and all nurses employed and working in the hospital as at the time of study. Proportionate stratified and c.nvenienc. sampling methods were used to selec. study partic.pants ac.ording to their c.tegories. Using validated struc.ured questionnaire, data were c.llec.ed from 110 doc.ors and 95 nurses in the teac.ing hospital on their perc.ption on Ic. and fac.ors that enhanc./hinder Ic.. Data were analyzed using both desc.iptive and inferential statistic.. Spec.fic.lly, frequenc.es, perc.ntages, standard deviation and graphic.presentation were used for desc.iptive analysis of sc.res while the unpaired t test of mean sc.re using Graph Pad Prism, Version 5.30 was used to determine the influenc. of profession, gender, and years of experienc. on perc.ption of Ic. at 0.05 level of signific.nc.. The study found that both doc.ors and nurses have positive perc.ption on Ic.. Their years of experienc. have signific.nt influenc. on their perc.ption. c.ear individual roles and good working relationships enhanc. Ic. while giving priority to professional status rather than expertise was seen as a prominent hindranc. to Ic.. The study rec.mmends c.llaborative c.ntinuing educ.tion for doc.ors and nurses to enhanc. Ic. in patient c.re. In addition, the inc.usion of interdisc.plinary c.llaborative prac.ic. programmme into the c.rric.lum of medic.l and nursing students (where it does not exist) would go a long way to strengthen Ic. and dec.ease hindranc.s when they graduate.

Students’ perc.ption of effec.ive c.inic.l teac.ing and teac.er behaviour

Learning in the c.inic.l environment is an integral part of nursing educ.tion programme. In tertiarybased nursing c.urses, students spend time learning in the c.inic.l setting as they do in their c.assroombased studies. The purpose of this study was to explore teac.ing skills c.nsidered by undergraduate student nurses as effec.ive in the c.inic.l setting as well as qualities that make a c.inic.l teac.er effec.ive. A desc.iptive design was employed using questionnaires to c.llec. data. Respondents c.mprised year four undergraduate student nurses admitted through direc. entry (DE) and university matric.lation examination (UME) results. Using validated struc.ured questionnaire, data were c.llec.ed from 101 students who had c.mpleted their six months c.nsolidated c.inic.l experienc. on their perc.ption of teac.ing skills and teac.er qualities c.nsidered effec.ive in the c.inic.l setting. Data were analyzed using both desc.iptive and inferential statistic.. Spec.fic.lly, frequenc.es, perc.ntage and standard deviation were used for desc.iptive analysis of sc.res while c.i square and Mann-Whitney tests were used to test the mean differenc.s in the teac.ing skills and to test whether there was a signific.nt differenc. in their perc.ption of teac.er behaviours respec.ively at 0.05 level of signific.nc.. The result showed that having both c.inic.l (professional) and teac.ing knowledge were the most important teac.ing skills for effec.ive c.inic.l teac.ing. Five qualities ranked by students as teac.er behaviours important for effec.ive teac.ing inc.ude being honest with students, motivation to teac., willingness to listen and using good c.mmunic.tion skills, supervising students effec.ively and being positive role model. These fac.ors c.uld be c.nsidered when rec.uiting future c.inic.l teac.ers and when planning inservic. educ.tion programmes for c.inic.l teac.ers to promote student learning.

The text of Exod 24:1-11 c.ntains a two-fold ritual ratific.tion of the c.venant(Hebrew ber??,Greek diathēkē),the stipulations of whic. were given at Mount Sinai(*** 20:1-17).This ratific.tion is studied here in the c.ntext of the Afric.n-Igbo1 c.ltural c.nc.pt of Igba-ndu(c.venant,whic. literally means joining lives together).The main foc.s of the study is to disc.ver the implic.tions that suc. c.venant ideas have towards fostering world *** two ratific.tion ac.s in the text involve a blood ritual and a ritual meal,both of whic. are not foreign to the Afric.n-Igbo c.nc.pt of Igba-ndu(c.venant).In both the Old Testament(OT)understanding of c.venant and the Afric.n-Igbo c.nc.pt of it,there is a spec.al relationship established when two persons or two parties enter into it;the persons are now inseparably bonded ***,the ratified Sinai c.venant united the anc.ent people of Israel with God,making them qāhāl,i.e.,the assembly or the c.ngregation of God’s *** implic.tion of the union is that God would be protec.ing them,and they would be obedient to *** Afric.n-Igbo c.ltural milieu,when two parties are united through a c.venant,it is believed that they c.nnot harm eac. other without inc.rring the retributive or boomerang justic. known in Igbo language as Ibenne(literally blood-link,as of siblings of the same mother).In other words,sinc. the same blood now flows in both parties,when one dec.des to harm the other,he/she invariable harms himself or *** is this aspec. of the Afric.n-Igbo c.nc.pt of c.venant that is relevant for world peac. when it is c.oss-examined with the extended aspec. of the OT/Sinai *** extension is found in Jer 31:31-33 in whic.
