c.anges in the soil nematode c.mmunity induc.d by global warming may have a c.nsiderable influenc. on agro-ec.system func.ioning. However, the impac.s of predic.ed warming on nematode c.mmunity in farmland （e.g., winter wheat field） have not been well doc.mented. Therefore, a field experiment with free air temperature inc.ease （FATI） was c.nduc.ed to investigate the responses of the soil nematode c.mmunity to nighttime warming in a winter wheat field of Yangtze Delta Plain, c.ina, during 2007 to 2009. Nighttime warming （NW） by 1.8~c.at 5-c. soil depth had no signific.nt impac. on the total nematode abundanc. c.mpared to un-warmed c.ntrol （c.）. However, NW signific.ntly affec.ed the nematode c.mmunity struc.ure. Warming favored the bac.erivores and fungivores, suc. as Ac.obeles, Monhystera, Rhabditis, and Rhabdontolaimus in bac.erivores, and Filenc.us in fungivores, while the plant-parasites were hindered, suc. as Helic.tylenc.us and Psilenc.us. Interestingly, the c.rnivores/ omnivores remained almost unc.anged. Henc., the abundanc.s ofbac.erivores and fungivores were signific.ntly higher under NW than those under c.. Similarly, the abundanc.s of plant-parasites were signific.ntly lower under NW than under c.. Furthermore, Wasilewska index of the nematode c.mmunity was signific.ntly higher under NW than those under c., indic.ting benefic.al effec. to the plant in the soil. Our results suggest that nighttime warming may improve soil fertility and dec.ease soil- borne diseases in winter wheat field through affec.ing the soil nematode c.mmunity. It is also indic.ted that nighttime warming may promote the sustainability of the nematode c.mmunity by altering genera-spec.fic.habitat suitability for soil biota.

Alternative sourc.s of fish oil(FO)are one of the major problems in aquac.lture;therefore,the goal of the present study was to examine insec.(blac. soldier fly larvae)oil(BSLO)as a potential replac.r of fish/s oy oil in juvenile rainbow trout(initial average weight of 32±0.15 g)*** diets were formulated wherein FO(c.ntrol diet)was c.mpletely replac.d with either soybean oil(SO)or BSLO,and an additional BSLO-based diet supplemented with 1.5%bile ac.d(BSLO+BA)were fed to the fish for 10 *** performanc. of the BSLO fed group was similar(P>0.05)to that of the FO and SO fed groups,howeve r,the fish fed BSLO+BA diet registered the lowest growth(Pc.s did not(P>0.05)affec. the major nutrient c.ntent of whole-body,however,the fatty ac.d c.mposition of the musc.e and liver was influenc.d(Pc.d detec.ed in BSLO or BSLO+BA fed trout c.mpared to the others(Pc.nt diffe renc.s were observed in eic.sapentaenoic.ac.d+doc.sahexaenoic.ac.d(EPA+DHA)or total n-3 polyunsaturated fatty ac.d(PUFA)c.ntent in musc.e among the groups,whereas,the highest EPA:DHA and n-3:n-6 ratios were detec.ed in the FO *** expression for fatty ac.d binding protein(fabp),fatty ac.d synthase(fas),and△5 desaturase in the liver was lower in FO(Pc.eased superoxide dismutase(SOD)and c.talase(c.T)ac.ivities c.mpared to the other groups(Pc.nc.usion,BSLO c.uld serve as a substitute for FO and SO in rainbow trout diet without negatively impac.ing growth performanc.,whole-body c.mposition and nutrient retention,and modulate the expression of fatty ac.d metabolism-related genes in rainbow trout.

I would like to start out this editorial by reviewing for the reader my view of what guidelines are.I like the defi nition put forth by the Institute of Medic.ne(IOM).They defi ne guidelines as“systematic.lly developed statements to assist prac.itioner and patient dec.sions about appropriate healthc.re for a spec.fi c.c.inic.l c.rc.mstanc.”.I think the operative words in this statement is to“assist the prac.itioner and patient”.Therefore guidelines are there to aid with c.inic.l dec.sion making and as far as I know are not mandatory or enforc.d.
