AIM: To evaluate vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and tryptase in hepatocellular cancer(HCC)before and after trans-arterial chemoembolization(TACE).METHODS: VEGF and tryptase serum concentrations were assessed from 71 unresectable HCC patients before and after hepatic TACE performed by binding DC-Beads?to doxorubicin. VEGF levels were examined for each serum sample using the Quantikine Human VEGF-enzyme-linked immuno-absorbent assay(ELISA),whereas tryptase serum concentrations were assessed for each serum sample by means of fluoro-enzyme immunoassay(FEIA) using the Uni-CAP100 *** between serum VEGF and tryptase values before and after TACE were evaluated using Student t test. Person's correlation was used to assess the degree of association between the two ***: VEGF levels and serum tryptase in HCCpatients before TACE had a mean value and standard deviation(SD) of 114.31 ± 79.58 pg/mL and 8.13± 3.61 μg/L, respectively. The mean levels and SD of VEGF levels and serum tryptase in HCC patients after TACE were 238.14 ± 109.41 pg/mL and 4.02 ±3.03 μg/L. The changes between the mean values of concentration of VEGF and tryptase before treatment and after treatment was statistically significant(P <0.000231 and P < 0.00124, by Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney respectively). A significant correlation between VEGF levels before and after TACE and between tryptase levels before and after TACE was demonstrated(r =0.68, P = 0.003; r = 0.84, P = 0.000 respectively).CONCLUSION: Our pilot results suggest that the higher serum VEGF levels and the lower tryptase levels following TACE may be potential biomarkers changing in response to therapy.

星形胶质细胞是中枢神经系统中主要的细胞种类之一,在许多疾病过程中参与调节免疫/炎性反应。在癫痫相关病理损伤过程中可观察到星形胶质细胞的活化增殖,其在癫痫发生过程中的病理生理学作用值得我们进一步研究。在癫痫患者的脑组织中,星形胶质细胞的物理特性发生了明显改变,其中一个重要的变化就是星形胶质细胞炎性反应途径的激活。越来越多的研究表明,促炎分子可以改变胶质细胞-神经元之间的通信,导致痫性发作及痫性发作相关的神经元损伤。离体和在体研究均发现星形胶质细胞是致痫炎性信号的主要来源及作用靶点。因此,理解癫痫大脑组织中的星形胶质细胞炎性反应有助于为星形胶质细胞介导的癫痫的靶向干预策略提供新的思路。本文对星形胶质细胞在癫痫内源性免疫反应中的作用进行综述,讨论并评价耐药癫痫患者的临床研究及临床相关模型实验研究的结果,重点关注炎症反应相关通路(如白介素-1β/Toll样受体4),这些通路有可能是抗痫治疗的潜在靶点及疾病调整治疗的新策略。

Introduction: Adolescent HPV vaccination rates remain suboptimal. The purpose of the study was to investigate attitudes about HPV vaccine relative to other adolescent vaccines among clinical staff from primary care offices and school based clinics. Methods: We interviewed clinicians in primary care offices and school-based clinics regarding their attitudes about HPV vaccine relative to Tdap and MCV4. Results: Respondents (n = 36) included clinical staff in family medicine (47%), pediatrics (25%), obstetrics/gynecology (19%) and school-based health clinics (8%). Only 3% strongly agreed and 17% agreed that completion of HPV vaccine was more important than completion of pertussis vaccine (Tdap), while 6% strongly agreed and 33% agreed that completion of HPV vaccine was more important than completion of meningitis vaccine (MCV4). Discussion: Providing clinicians with additional information about the cancer prevention benefits of the HPV vaccine and the greater risk for HPV infection/disease relative to other vaccine preventable adolescent diseases may help to increase HPV vaccination rates among adolescents.

Since the middle of 1990 s autologous stem cell trans-plantation has been the cornerstone for the treatment of young patients with multiple myeloma(MM). In the last decade the introduction of novel agents such as immunomodulatory drugs(IMi Ds) and proteasome inhibitors(PI), has dramatically changed the therapeutic scenario of this yet incurable disease. Due to the impressive results achieved with IMi Ds and PI both in terms of response rates and in terms of progression free and overall survival, and to the toxicity linked to high dose therapy and autologous stem cell transplantation(ASCT), a burning question nowadays is whether all young patients should be offered autotransplanta-tion up front or if this should be reserved for the time of relapse. This article provides a review of the data available regarding ASCT in MM and of the current opinion of the scientific community regarding its optimal timing.

BACKGROUND The recent and still ongoing pandemic caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)entailed various long-term complications,including post-infectious *** To identify the available studies concerning post-coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** An extensive bibliographical search was carried out in PubMed and in Cochrane Library to identify the articles(retrospective and prospective studies,cohort studies,case series and case reports)published between January 1,2020 and August 22,2022,using both MeSH terms and free-language keywords:cholangiopathy;COVID-19;post-COVID-19 cholangiopathy;*** Thirteen studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria,which included 64 patients suffering from this *** patients were male in 82.8%of *** transplant was executed in 6 patients and scheduled in 7 patients,while 2 patients refused the surgical *** in 23.4%of the cases,performing this procedure appeared to be *** This review has revealed that generally the involvement of the liver in the course of SARS-CoV-2 infection is mild and transient,inducing cholestasis of cholangiocytes but can also be severe enough to cause organ failure in some cases.
