Effects of a check dam system on the runoff generation and concentration processes of a catchment on the Loess Plateau

As an important soil and water conservation engineering measure,more than 100,000 check dams are constructed across the Loess Plateau;these dams play a vital role in reducing floods and sediment in the region.However,the effects of check dams on hydrologic process are still unclear,particularly when they are deployed as a system for watershed soil and water management.This study examined the watershed hydrologic process modulated by the check dam system in a typical Loess Plateau catchment.By simulating scenarios with various numbers of check dams using a distributed physically-based hydro-logical model,the effects of the number of check dams on runoff generation and concentration were analyzed for the study catchment.The results showed that the presence of check dams reduced the peak discharge and the flood volume and extended the flood duration;the reduction effect on peak discharge was most significant among the three factors.The system of check dams substantially decreased the runoff coefficient,and the runoff coefficient reduction rate was greater for rainstorms with shorter return periods than for rainstorms with longer return periods.The check dams increased the capacity of the catchment regulating and storing floods and extended the average runoff concentration time in the catchment that flattened the instantaneous unit hydrograph.This study reveals the influencing mech-anism of check dam system on the watershed hydrological process under heavy rainstorm conditions and provides a theoretical basis for evaluating the effects of numerous check dams on regional hydrology and water resources on the Loess Plateau.

The industrial manipulator is a non-linear, strongly coupled, time-varying system, and it is affected by various uncertain factors such as unmodeled dynamics, parameter changes, external disturbances, and friction. These uncertain factors will cause the tracking accuracy of the joints of the manipulator to deteriorate, which will lead to the instability of the entire manipulator system. Therefore, it is of great significance to achieve improved trajectory tracking precision of the manipulator and make the robotic arm have good dynamic performance. A new controller is designed in this paper. The controller uses a low-pass filter to reduce the chattering signal in the sliding mode control. Then, the type-2 fuzzy control is designed to simulate the external disturbance signal and the dynamic uncertain signal, so that the controller can effectively suppress the chattering caused by the sliding mode control algorithm, improve the robustness of the industrial manipulator control system, and effectively realize the high-precision track tracking control of the manipulator.

Microbially induced carbonate precipitation(MICP)is a promising technique for the autonomous healing of concrete cracks.In this study,the effect of pH on MICP was investigated.The results indicate that the MICP process was inhibited when the pH was higher than 11.Both vaterite and calcite were produced when the pH was8.Recycled concrete aggregates(RCA)coated with sodium silicate have been proposed as protective carriers for microbial healing agents.Although the presence of the coated RCA resulted in a loss of the splitting tension strength of the concrete,the loaded healing agents were highly efficient in self-healing cracks.Concrete incorporated with 20%RCA loaded with healing agents exhibited the best self-healing performance.When the initial crack widths were between 0.3 and 0.4 mm,the 7-d mean healing rate was approximately 90%.At 28 d,the crack area filling ratio was 86.4%,while its water tightness recovery ratio was 74.4%and 29.8%,respectively,for rapid and slow absorption.This study suggests that RCA coated with sodium silicate is an effective method for packaging microbial healing agents and has great potential for developing cost-effective self-healing concrete.

Controlled drug delivery holds great potential for effective tumor treatment owing to the merits of overcoming drug resistance and improving therapeutic efficacy while minimizing systemic toxicity.However,accurate and controllable delivery of chemotherapeutics into tumor tissue with high efficiency remains a huge challenge.Taking advantage of the UV-emitting characteristics of upconversion nanoparticles(UCNPs),herein we for the first time report an MMP-2 enzyme and near infrared(NIR)dual-mediated sequential drug delivery and in-situ immobilization(ENDDI)system that is fabricated by decorating UCNPs with MMP-2 responsive and photocrosslinkable peptide bearing anticancer drug doxorubicin(DOX)for overcoming multidrug resistance.Upon cleavage with tumor-specific MMP-2,the peptide fragment containing a photolabile benzophenone(BP)and DOX could be released and in-situ immobilized within the tumor through the covalent crosslinking reaction between BP and neighboring biomolecules under the excitation of converted UVemission from UCNPs,which remarkably blocks the exocytosis of DOX leading to prolonged drug retention,achieving significant suppression of DOX-resistant breast tumors.Our current dual stimuli-mediated sequential drug delivery and in-situ immobilization represent a generalizable strategy for the effective treatment of multidrug resistant tumors.

A new type of exponential rate is proposed, in order to improve the dynamic quality of servo motor speed control system. The reaching law relates the approach speed to the change of the system state quantity, which overcomes the shortcomings of the conventional exponential approach rate. The inherent buffeting problem of the sliding mode is effectively suppressed. The reaching law is applied to the servo motor speed control system, and a sliding mode variable structure speed controller based on a novel exponential reaching law is designed to replace the traditional PI regulator. Simulations and experiments show that the speed controller is robust to system parameters uncertainties, external disturbances and noise, and it can effectively improve the dynamic and static characteristics of the system. This makes the servo motor can be better applied to the robot servo system.

Phototheranostics have attracted tremendous attention in cancer diagnosis and treatment because of the noninvasiveness and promising effectiveness.Developing advanced phototheranostic agents with long emission wavelength,excellent biocompatibility,great tumor-targeting capability,and efficient therapeutic effect is highly desirable.However,the mutual constraint between imaging and therapeutic functions usually hinders their wide applications in biomedical field.To balance this contradiction,we herein rationally designed and synthesized three novel tumor-targeted NIR-Ⅱ probes(QR-2PEG_(321),QR-2PEG_(1000),and QR-2PEG_(5000)) by conjugating three different chain lengths of PEG onto an integrin α_(v)β_(3)-targeted NIR-Ⅱ heptamethine cyanine fluorophore,respectively.In virtue of the essential amphiphilic characteristics of PEG polymers,these probes display various degree of aggregation in aqueous buffer accompanying with differential NIR-Ⅱ imaging and photothermal(PTT) therapeutic performance.Both in vitro and in vivo results have demonstrated that probe QR-2PEG_(5000) has the best NIR-Ⅱ imaging performance with prominent renal clearance,whereas QR-2PEG_(321)possesses excellent photoacoustic signal as well as PTT effect,which undoubtedly provides a promising toolbox for tumor diagnosis and therapy.We thus envision that these synthesized probes have great potential to be explored as a toolkit for precise diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors.

The increasing pressure of abolishing and/or decreasing the use of antibiotics as antimicrobial growth promoters for livestock calls for alternative solutions to sustain the efficiency of current livestock production.Among the alternatives, essential oils have a great potential and are generally considered natural, less toxic, and free from residues.Essential oils have been proven in numerous in vitro studies to exert antimicrobial effects on various pathogens.The current review touched on the basics of essential oils, and the in vivo effects of essential oils on growth, intestinal microflora, anti-oxidation, immune functionality, meat qualities as well as the possible modes of action in poultry and pigs, and the future research areas were proposed.

A New Process Industry Fault Diagnosis Algorithm Based on Ensemble Improved Binary-Tree SVM

Support vector machine(SVM) is an effective tool in deal with small sample, nonlinear and high dimension classification problems. In this paper, an improved pre-treatment binary-tree SVM is proposed to solve fault diagnosis. Furthermore an ensemble method is presented to establish ensemble SVM. Here the improved SVM is used as weak learning machine. The new ensemble SVM can improve the performance of single binary-tree SVM.At the end, the new algorithm is applied to fault diagnosis of blast furnace faults and the Tennessee Eastman process(TEP). The experiments results show that the improved binary-tree SVM algorithm has an excellent performance on diagnosis speed and accuracy.
