Objective:Neonates with congenital heart disease(CHD)and perinatal stroke have high mortality and survivors are at risk for poor long-term neurodevelopmental *** aim of this study was to assess the risk factors and outcome of neonates with both CHD and mRI-confirmed perinatal stroke(Study Group)and compare those to the risk factors and outcome of infants matched for CHD without stroke(Control-1)and of infants matched for mRI-confirmed stroke without CHD(Control-2).methods:We conducted a population-based case-control study enrolling 28 term neonates with CHD and mRI-confirmed acute perinatal stroke born between 2007–2017 in the Central-Hungarian *** of the control groups included 56 *** Bayley Scales of Infant Development-II,the Brunet-Lézine test and the Binet Intelligence scales-V were used for neurodevelopmental follow-up at a median age of 61 ***:mortality was highest in the Study Group(25%compared to 5%and 2%,respectively,p=0.001).Adverse neurodevelopmental outcome was prevalent in the Study(53%)and Control-2 Groups(52%,p=0.03).Significantly different parameters among the three groups included Apgar scores,mode of delivery,gestational age at birth,cardiac interventions and twin *** a multivariable regression analysis adjusted for clinically relevant parameters,patients in the Study Group had significantly higher odds for mortality compared to patients in the Control-1 Group(OR:6.595%CI:1.1–39.4).Conclusions:Neonates with perinatal stroke and CHD are at a higher risk for dying compared to neonates with CHD without *** addition,the stroke-associated direct insult to the brain likely plays an important role in the development of neurodevelopmental morbidity in these patients.

Achromatic patches are a common element of plumage patterns in many bird species and there is growing body of evidence that in many avian taxa they can play a signaling role in mate *** the blue tit Cyanistes caeruleus is a well-established model species in the studies on coloration,its white wing patch has never been examined in the context of sex-specific trait *** this exploratory study,we examined sexual size dimorphism and dichromatism of greater covert’s dots creating white wing patch and analyzed its correlations with current body condition and crown coloration—a trait with established role in sexual ***,we qualitatively analyzed microstructural barb morphology underlying covert’s *** found significant sexual dimorphism in the dot size independent of covert size and sexual dichromatism in both white dot and blue outer covert’s vane spectral *** structure of covert barbs within the white dot was similar to the one found in barbs from the blue part that is,with a medullary area consisting of dead keratinocytes containing channel-typeß-keratin spongy nanostructure and centrally located air ***,it lacked melanosomes which was the main observed ***,UV chroma of covert’s blue vane was positively correlated with crown UV chroma and current condition(the latter only in males),which should be a premise for further research on the signal function of the wing stripe.

Dogs engage in play behavior at every age and the play bow is their most iconic playful ***,the function of this posture is still under ***,we selected the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog(CWD)as a model breed to clarify the function of the play *** analyzed frame-by-frame 118 sessions of 24 subjects and recorded 76 play bow *** found that all the play bows were performed in the visual field of the playmate suggesting that the sender takes into account the attentional state of the receiver when releasing the *** drawing survival curves and using log-rank test we found that play bow was mainly performed during a short pause in an ongoing session and that its performance triggered the playmate’s reaction *** findings show that play bow functions in restoring the partner motivation to ***,by using a sequential analysis and a generalized mixed model,we found no evidence supporting the metacommunicative function of the play *** signal did not necessarily precede a contact offensive behavior(e.g.,play biting and play pushing)and it was not affected by the level of asymmetry of the play *** conclusion,in CWDs play bow can be considered a visual signal useful to maintain the motivation to play in the ***,we suggest that the mismatched number of play bows emitted by the 2 players in a given session can be predictive of their different motivations to play.

Corrosion study of resorbable Ca60mg15Zn25 bulk metallic glasses in physiological fluids

The corrosion activity of amorphous plates of Ca60mg15Zn25alloy was *** biocompatible elements were selected for the alloy *** electrochemical corrosion and immersion tests were carried out in a multi-electrolyte fluid and Ringer's *** corrosion behavior was observed for the samples tested in a multi-electrolyte fluid despite the active dissolution of Ca and mg in Ringer's *** experimental results indicated that reducing concentration of NaCl from 8.6 g/dm3for Ringer's solution to 5.75 g/dm3caused the decrease of the corrosion *** volume of the hydrogen evolved after 480 min in Ringer's solution（40.1 ml/cm2）was higher in comparison with that obtained in a multi-electrolyte fluid（24.4 ml/cm2）.The values of opencircuit potential(EOCP)for the Ca60mg15Zn25glass after 1 h incubation in Ringer's solution and a multielectrolyte fluid were determined to be-1553 and-1536 m V vs.a saturated calomel electrode（SCE）.The electrochemical measurements indicated a shift of the corrosion current density(jcorr)from 1062μA/cm2for the sample tested in Ringer's solution to 788μA/cm2for the specimen immersed in a multi-electrolyte *** corrosion products analysis was conducted by using the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS）.The corrosion products were identified to be CaCO3,mg（OH）2,CaO,mgO and Zn *** mechanism of corrosion process was proposed and described based on the microscopic *** X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy（FTIR）also indicated that Ca（OH）2,CaCO3,Zn（OH）2and Ca(Zn（OH）3)2·2H2O mainly formed on the surface of the studied alloy.

Benzene, toluene and xylenes levels in new and used vehicles of the same model

The aim of this work was to determine the level of benzene, toluene, o-xylene and m, p-xylene （BTX） in air samples collected from the cabins of new and used vehicles of the same model. Ten new vehicles were examined in order to check interior emission from materials used to equip the passenger compartment. In order to compare and define the impact of exhaust gases, air samples were also collected from two used cars, at different mileages （up to 20,000 kin）. All vehicles tested were of the same type. Samples were collected onto Carbograph 1TD sorbent, thermally desorbed and examined with the use of gas chromatography with flame ionisation and mass spectrometry detectors. All results obtained were referred to Polish and German requirements for indoor air quality （both in public buildings and in workspace environments）. Average benzene, toluene, o-xylene and m, p-xylene concentrations in new cars were determined at the level of 11.8 μg/m^3, 82.7 μg/m^3, 21.2 μg/m^3 and 89.5 μg/m^3, respectively. In the used cars, BTX concentration increased with increasing vehicle mileage. The most significant increase of BTX concentration was observed above 11,000 km mileage.

mucin and phospholipids determine viscosity of gallbladder bile in patients with gallstones

AIm: An increased viscosity of gallbladder bile has been considered an important factor in the pathogenesis of gallstone disease. Besides lipids and proteins, mucin has been suggested to affect the viscosity of bile. To further clarify these issues we compared mucin, protein and the lipid componEnts of hepatic and gallbladder bile and its viscosity in patients with gallstones. mETHODS: Viscosity of bile (mPa.s) was measured using rotation viscosimetry in regard to the non Newtonian property of bile at low shear rates. RESULTS: Biliary viscosity was markedly higher in gallbladder bile of patients with cholesterol (5.00 +/- 0.60 mPa.s, mean +/- SEm, r= 28) and mixed stones (3.50 +/- 0.68 mPa.s; r= 8) compared to hepatic bile (0.92 +/- 0.06 mPa.s, r= 6). A positive correlation between mucin and viscosity was found in gallbladder biles (r = 0.65; P mounts of mucin to gallbladder bile resulted in a dose dependent non linear increase of its viscosity. A positive correlation was determined between phospholipid concentration and viscosity (r = 0.34, P markedly higher than that of hepatic bile in patients with gallstones. The concentration of mucin is the major determinant of biliary viscosity and may contribute by this mechanism to the role of mucin in the pathogenesis of gallstones.

Recently, H_(2) has attracted increasing attention as green energy carrier holding the possibility to replace fossil fuel-based energy sources and thereby reduce CO_(2) emissions. Green hydrogen can be generated by water electrolysis using renewable energies like wind and solar power. When it is combusted, only water forms as by-product. However, the efficiency of water electrolysis is hampered by the anodic oxygen evolution reaction(OER) because of the slow kinetics which leads to a high overpotential. Therefore, many catalysts have been developed for OER to facilitate the kinetics and reduce the overpotential. In addition to electrocatalytic activity, the stability of the catalysts is imperative for industrial application and has been intensively studied. In this review, we cover recent findings on the stability and deactivation mechanisms of OER catalysts. We discuss the correlation between OER activity and stability, methodologies and experimental techniques to study the stability and deactivation as well as the deactivation mechanisms, together with factors influencing stability. Furthermore, strategies for stabilizing and regenerating OER catalysts as well as methods to predict stability are summarized. Finally, the review highlights emerging methodologies yet to be explored and future directions of stability studies and the design of highly stable OER catalysts.

Epidemiology of open fractures in sport: One centre's 15-year retrospective study

AIm To describe the epidemiology of sport-related open fractures from one centre's adult patient population over a 15-year period. mETHODS A retrospective review of a prospectively-collected database was performed: The database contained information all sport-related open fractures, sustained from 1995 to 2009 in the Edinburgh, mid and East Lothian *** Over the 15-year period, there were 85 fractures recorded in 84 patients. The annual incidence of open sport-related fractures was 0.01 per 1000 population. The mean age at injury was 29.2 years(range 15-67). There were 70(83%) males and 14 females(17%).The 6 most common sports were soccer(n = 19, 22%), rugby(n = 9, 11%), cycling(n = 8, 9%), hockey(n = 8, 9%); horse riding(n = 6, 7%) and skiing(n = 6, 7%). The five most common anatomical locations were finger phalanges(n = 30, 35%); tibial diaphysis(n = 19, 23%); forearm(n = 12, 14%); ankle(n = 7, 8%) and metacarpals(n = 5, 6%). The mean injury severity score was 7.02. According to the Gustilo-Anderson classification system, 45(53%) fractures were grade 1; 28(33%) fractures were grade 2; 8(9%) fractures were grade 3a; and 4(5%) fractures were grade 3b. Out of the total number of fractures, 7(8%) required plastic surgical intervention as part of management. The types of flaps used were split skin graft(n = 4), fasciocutaneous flaps(n = 2); and adipofascial flap(n = 1). CONCLUSION We analysed the epidemiology of open fractures secondary to sport in one centre over a 15-year period. Soccer and rugby were the most common causative sports while fractures of the finger phalanx and of the tibial diaphysis were the most common sites. Open fractures are uncommon in sport; however, when they are sustained they usually occur on muddy sport fields or forest tracks and therefore must be treated appropriately. It is important that clinicians and sports therapists have knowledge of these injuries, in order to ensure they are managed optimally.
