BACKGROUND The high prevalence and persistence of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection, as well as the diversity of pathologies related to it, suggest that the virulence factors used by this microorganism are varied. moreover, as its proteome contains 340hypothetical proteins, it is important to investigate them to completely understand the mechanisms of its virulence and survival. We have previously reported that the hypothetical protein HP0953 is overexpressed during the first hours of adhesion to inert surfaces, under stress conditions, suggesting its role in the environmental survival of this bacterium and perhaps as a virulence *** To investigate the expression and localization of HP0953 during adhesion to an inert surface and against gastric(AGS) *** Expression analysis was performed for HP0953 during H. pylori adhesion. HP0953 expression at 0,3, 12, 24, and 48 h was evaluated and compared using the Kruskal-Wallis equality-of-populations rank test. Recombinant protein was produced and used to obtain polyclonal antibodies for immunolocalization. Immunogold technique was performed on bacterial sections during adherence to inert surfaces and AGS cells, which was analyzed by transmission electron microscopy. HP0953 protein sequence was analyzed to predict the presence of a signal peptide and transmembrane helices, both provided by the ExPASy platform, and using the GLYCOPP platform for glycosylation sites. Different programs, via, I-TASSER, RaptorX, and HHalign-Kbest, were used to perform three-dimensional *** HP0953 exhibited its maximum expression at 12 h of infection in gastric epithelium *** technique revealed HP0953 localization in the cytoplasm and accumulation in some peripheral areas of the bacterial body, with greater expression when it is close to AGS *** analysis revealed the presence of a signal peptide that interacts with the transmembrane region and then allows the release of the protein

Ag/TiO2 nanocomposites are usually regarded as an effective synergy for high antimicrobial performance under ultraviolet-visible light conditions. This study confirmed that the surface plasmon resonance of Ag NPs plays an important role in relation to the NPs size and consequently with the antibacterial effect of the nanocomposite. We observed that under visible light the reactivity of TiO2 cannot be amplified when it is supporting Ag NPs that have an inactive photocatalytically surface. The results confirmed that the antimicrobial effectiveness of nanocomposite based on Ag NPs supported-TiO2 is closely associated to the contact surface area and to the electronic performance of the noble metal.

Branched Polyamines Functionalized with Proposed Reaction Pathways Based on <sup>1</sup>H-NmR, Atomic Absorption and IR Spectroscopies

Three novel branched polyamines N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis-[3((pyridine-2-methyl)-amine) propyl]-1,4- butanediamine (1), N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis-[N-((2-methylpyridine)ethyl)propanamide]ethylenediamine (2) and N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis-[3((2-hidroxibenziliden)-amine)propyl]-1,4-butanediamine (3), were synthesized starting from 2-pyridinecarboxaldeyde with DAB-Am-4 for 1, PAmAm G0 for 2 and from salicylaldehyde with DAB-Am-4 for 3. The pathway reactions have been proposed by 1H-NmR, IR and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy. The optimal reaction time was set by IR spectroscopy following aldehyde? peak modification. 1 and 2 were obtained as both hydrochlorides and as free amines and 3 only as free imine. These polyamines were characterized by UV-Vis, IR, 1H-NmR and 13C-NmR and mass Spectrometry.

Enzymes of Entomopathogenic Fungi, Advances and Insights

Entomopathogenic fungi (EF) are recognized biological control agents of insects. Basically, the entomopathogenic fungi pathogen activity depends on the ability of its enzymatic equipment, consisting of lipases, proteases and chitinases, which are in charge of breaking down the insect’s integument. Lipases are the first enzymes synthesized by the entomopathogenic fungi. Recently, a cytochrome P450 subfamily, referred as CYP52XI and mrCYP52 has been identified in Beauveria bassiana and metarhizium robertsii, respectively. These break down long-chain alkenes and fatty acids to become initial nutrients. Subsequently, subtilisin type (Pr1) proteases sintetize;these enzymes are considered as virulence indicators and they are regulated by a signal transduction mechanism activated by the protein kinase A (PKA) mediated by AmPc. Through the employment of genetic engineering, it has been possible to increase virulence producing Pr1 recombinants with Androctonus australis neurotoxins or with chitinases, reducing the insect’s time of death. In the course of time, the Pr1 protease gene has presented evolutionary adaptations by gene duplication or horizontal transfer infecting different orders of insects. In the same way, the entomopathogenic fungi chitinases have presented a functional diversification. Currently, these have been phylogenetically classified into three subgroups, in accordance to the catalytic site domain and the chitin binding domain. The chitinolytic activity has increased through a directed evolution processes and genetic recombination with Bombyx mori chitinase. Recently, enzymes have been employed as control agents for insects and phytopathogenic fungi (disease originator) opening new potentialities in order to improve the entomopathogenic fungi use. 为了阐明在肉鸡休药期日粮中添加维吉尼亚霉素的节省营养作用和降低费用提高效益做了两个试验。在试验1中,对Ross x Cobb肉鸡饲喂相同的雏鸡和中大鸡日粮。第30天,转为休药期日粮至第49天试验结束。处理设计如下:1)标准肉鸡休药期日粮（17.1%CP）;2)低营养水平（16%CP）的休药期日粮;3)日粮与2)相同,只是添加了15mg/kg维吉尼亚霉素。在试验2中,35天以内的Rossx Cobb肉鸡饲喂相同的雏鸡和中大鸡日粮,再转为休药期日粮,并饲喂至试验结束（第49天）。处理1组的鸡饲喂与试验1相似的标准日粮,处理2组的鸡饲喂极低营养水平（15%CP）的休药期日粮,而处理3组的鸡则饲喂与处理2组相同,但添加了15mg/kg维吉尼亚霉素。在两个试验中,饲喂含有维吉尼亚霉素休药期日粮的鸡均增重最明显,而且标准日粮（未降低营养水平）和低营养水平添加维吉尼亚霉素的日粮饲料转化率相当。饲喂含维吉尼亚霉素的休药期日粮鸡死亡率也最低。胸肉比例分析结果显示,在两个试验中,饲喂含维吉尼亚霉素日粮鸡的胸肉率要高于不加维吉尼亚霉素的另外两个处理组。

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor plasma levels and premature cognitive impairment/dementia in type 2 diabetes

AIm To assess the relationship of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) with cognitive impairment in patients with type 2 diabetes. mETHODS The study included 40 patients with diabetes mellitus type 2(Dm2), 37 patients with chronic kidney disease in hem dialysis hemodialysis therapy(HD) and 40 healthy subjects. BDNF in serum was quantified by ELISA. The Folstein mini-mental State Examination was used to evaluate cognitive *** The patients with Dm2 and the patients in HD were categorized into two groups, with cognitive impairment and without cognitive impairment. The levels of BDNF showed significant differences between patients with Dm2(43.78 ± 9.05 vs 31.55 ± 10.24, P = 0.005). There were no differences between patients in HD(11.39 ± 8.87 vs 11.11 ± 10.64 P = 0.77); interestingly, ferritin levels were higher in patients with cognitive impairment(1564 ± 1335 vs 664 ± 484 P = 0.001). The comparison of BDNF values, using a Kruskal Wallis test, between patients with Dm2, in HD and healthy controls showed statistical differences(P mpairment in patients with Dm2. The decrease of BDNF occurs early and progressively in patients in HD.

Childhood obesity seems to be increasing at a disturbing rate. Exercise and diet are recommended to combat this epidemic. Light and moderate physical activity is associated with health benefits, whereas intense physical activity is associated with normal BmI and low cardiovascular risk. The aim of this study was to assess the metabolic response to a graded exercise test (GXT) in children with different body weight. Eight boys and nine girls underwent a GXT on a treadmill according to Blake protocol. These children were 7-9 years old. The participants were divided into three groups according to their body weight: normal-weight, overweight, and obese. After GXT, lactate and HDL levels increased significantly in all three groups

Objectives: Recent changes in life style have increased obesity, smoking and sedentary habits in the entire population. Obesity and overweight frequency have trebled in mexico in the last few decades. The presence and frequency of cardiovascular risk factors were determined in students at the Universidad DeLa Salle Bajío, both newly admitted and in advanced years. material and methods: Anthropometric variables, serum glucose, total cholesterol levels, blood hemoglobin and hematocrit were obtained and assessed in 4814 students, 1507 recently admitted and 1507 advanced students. Results: The prevalence of obesity was 15.3%, sedentariness 33.8%, hypercholesterolemia 8.16%, smoking habits 15.8%, and alcohol consumption 12.1%. Body mass index (BmI) (23.5 ± 4 vs. 22.7 ± 4), waist/ abdomen index (0.84 ± 0.06 vs. 0.83 ± 0.06) and serum cholesterol (3.54 mmol/L ± 0.79 vs. 3.98 mmol/L ± 0.77) were greater in the advanced students

Background: Leptospirosis is an important zooanthroponotic disease spread worldwide which infection is recognized as a re-emergent disease. Leptospirosis is a systemic disease of humans and domestic animals, mainly dogs, cattle and swine, characterized by fever, renal and hepatic insufficiency, pulmonary manifestations and reproductive failure. Objective: To study the seroprevalence of anti-Leptospira antibodies in an urban canine population. materials and methods: The study was performed in march 2014 in stray dogs that had been captured in the districts of Coyoacan, Iztapalapa, Iztacalco and Benito Juarez in mexico City;117 dogs were analyzed, from each of which 5 ml of blood were obtained. Serology was performed using a mAT test (microscopic Agglutination Test), finding that the antigens corresponded to 13 serotypes of Leptospirainterrogans. Three age groups were formed: Group 1) younger than a year (n = 28), Group 2) 1 to 6 years (n = 75), and Group 3) older than 6 years (n = 14). Results: Of the analyzed sera, 28.2% were seropositive to one or more Leptospira serotypes, 74% of the positive seracoagglutinated with two or more serotypes. The most frequent serotypes were: Canicola, Icterohaemorrhagiae and Portland-vere. Serotypes Canicola, Pyrogenes, and Bratislava resulted statistically significant (p 0.001). The presence of anti-Leptospira antibodies in the blood of animals of 1 to 6 years resulted with a p 0.001. The sera from Iztapalapa reacted to nine serotypes. Conclusion: The 28.2% of seropositivity indicates Leptospira transmission in the canine population that was studied could exhibit a potential public health risk.

Feeding Behavior, Body Weight and Growth Rate during Post-Deprivation Period in Rats

Deprivation is an environmental experience that organisms are continually exposed to. However, few studies analyze deprivation effects on the consumption pattern during the post-deprivation period systematically. The aim of this study was to evaluate the deprivation effect on feeding pattern, growth rate and body weight during post-deprivation. Sixteen albino rats (3 months old at the beginning of the experiment) were exposed to 72-hour total food deprivation every 15 days. Food and water were freely available during non-deprivation periods. Rats completed three cycles comprised by a free access period followed by food deprivation. Once deprivation was removed, food and water consumption increased and then decreased, while body weight was recovered. Growth rate increased after every deprivation period and reached similar levels to those presented by the control group. Depriving rats from one commodity (i.e., food) cause them to restrain their consumption of the other freely available commodity (i.e., water). Results confirm that food deprivation modifies growth rate, water and food consumption. Additionally, during post-deprivation period, differences between males and females were not registered.
