Objectives: Diabetes is one of the most life-threatening chronic metabolic disorders and is considered a global health problem due to its prevalence and incidence. In morocco, several herbal preparations are utilized to treat this disease. For this reason, the current study aimed to identify and to collect data about the medicinal plants utilized in folk medicine for the treatment of diabetes in the Beni mellal region of ***: An ethnobotanical survey was carried out among 400 herbalists, competent villagers and traditional healers from the Beni mellal region through direct interviews using a semistructured ***: Forty-five medicinal plants belonging to 25 families were identified for their use in diabetes treatment. Interview results showed that the most frequently used plants were Olea europaea, Salvia officinalis, Allium sativum and Trigonella foenum-graecum, with a relative frequency of citation values of24.3%, 23.0%, 22.5% and 20.5%, respectively. moreover, in this study, the Fabaceae family was the most commonly reported plant family, and the leaves and roots were the most commonly used parts, for the treatment of ***: The Beni mellal region of morocco has an important floristic biodiversity of plants used to treat diabetes in traditional medicinal practice. This result provides a good database for pharmacological screenings in the search for plant-based antidiabetic medications.

Gut content analysis is a useful tool when studying arthropod predator-prey interactions. We used polymerase chain reaction （PCR） technique to examine how detection of prey DNA in the gut content of predators was influenced by digestion time and temperature. Such knowledge is critical before applying PCR-based gut content analysis to field collected predators. Larvae of the two-spotted ladybeetle （Adalia bipunctata L.） were fed with the bird cherry-oat aphid （Rhopalosiphum padi L.） at either 21℃ or 14℃. After consuming one aphid, the predators were allowed to digest the prey for a range of time periods up to 24 hours. The influence of temperature on A. bipunctata feeding behavior was also recorded. From the fed larvae, total DNA was extracted and PCR reactions with R. padi specific primers were run. The number ofA. bipunctata that tested positive for R. padi DNA was negatively related to the length of digestion time. Temperature influenced larval feeding behavior but did not have a significant effect on R. padi DNA detection. After pooling the data from both temperature treatments we estimated the time point when R. padi DNA could be amplified from 50% of the fed A. bipunctata by PCR to be 4.87 hours. With such a rapid decrease in prey DNA detection success, positive PCR reactions will most likely be the result of predation events occurring shortly before capture. If a defined digestion temperature range has proven not to influence prey detection, PCR data obtained from predators collected within that particular range can be interpreted in the same way.

Trihalomethane concentrations in tap water as determinant of bottled water use in the city of Barcelona

Bottled water consumption is increasing worldwide, despite its huge economic and environmental cost. We aim to describe personal and tap water quality determinants of bottled water use in the city of Barcelona. This cross-sectional study used data from the Health Survey of Barcelona in 2006（N = 5417 adults）. The use of bottled water to drink and to cook was evaluated in relation to age, gender, educational level, district and levels of trihalomethanes（THms）, free chlorine, conductivity, chloride, sodium, p H, nitrate and aluminium in municipal tap water using Robust Poisson Regression. The prevalence of bottled water use to drink and cook was 53.9% and 6.7%, respectively. Chemical parameters in water had a large variability（interquartile range of THms concentrations： 83.2–200.8 μg/L）and were correlated between them, except aluminium. Drinking bottled water increased with educational level, while cooking with bottled water was higher among men than among women and decreased with age. After adjusting by these personal determinants, a dose–response relationship was found between concentrations of all chemicals except aluminium in tap water and bottled water use. The highest association was found for THms,with a Prevalence Ratio of 2.00（95%CI = 1.86, 2.15） for drinking bottled water and 2.80（95%CI = 1.72, 4.58） for cooking with bottled water, among those with 〉 150 μg/L vs. 〈 100 μg/L THms in tap water. Conclusion： more than half of Barcelona residents regularly drank bottled water, and the main determinant was the chemical composition of tap water,particularly THm level.

This article examines the physiological relationships between fine roots and foliage, and how their biomass ratio correlates with changes in stand quality class. The biomass of fine roots ≤ 3 mm in diameter of spruce stands in the Republic of Karelia (Northwest Russia) was determined by the soil monolith method. Foliage biomass was calculated using a previously designed technique from the standing stock, average height and quality class of the stand. A relation between fine-root: foliage biomass ratio and stand quality class (representing soil fertility) has been established. The closest correlation between fine-root: foliage biomass ratio and stand quality based on soil fertility was for the 1-2 mm root fraction. Analysis of the water flux balance in the trees revealed a correlation between fine-root: foliage ratio and the ratio of the specific volume of transpiration by the stand to the specific volume of water uptake from the soil by roots. Theoretical explanations for the decrease in fine-root: foliage biomass ratios with increasing stand quality class are offered.

Basic wood density is an excellent indicator of quality,it is correlated with numerous physical,physiological and mechanical characteristics of a species and is a good descriptor of wood quality and important indicator of tree performance in community *** accurate method is thus needed to estimate wood *** standard way is to calculate the ratio of the oven-dried mass of a wood sample divided by its green volume,but wood characteristics within and between growth rings are highly variable;the density can vary in the longitudinal and the radial *** present study investigates the longitudinal and radial fl uctuations in the basic density of Abies cephalonica Loud and Pinus halepensis *** logs were cut from four diff erent trees for each species and 16 discs were formed(two discs from each log,one at the base and one at the top).Each disc was cut into cubes where their distance from the pith was measured and then sorted into 2 cm wide concentric *** results revealed a mild decreasing trend in basic density from the foot of the trunk upward for both *** pith in both species also seems to have a relatively high density,which in the immediate next growth rings decreases only to resume increasing toward the bark.

Currently, there are a limited number of dynamic models available for braided composite plates with large overall motions, despite the incorporation of three-dimensional(3D) braided composites into rotating blade components. In this paper, a dynamic model of 3D 4-directional braided composite thin plates considering braiding directions is established. Based on Kirchhoff's plate assumptions, the displacement variables of the plate are expressed. By incorporating the braiding directions into the constitutive equation of the braided composites, the dynamic model of the plate considering braiding directions is obtained. The effects of the speeds, braiding directions, and braided angles on the responses of the plate with fixed-axis rotation and translational motion, respectively, are investigated. This paper presents a dynamic theory for calculating the deformation of 3D braided composite structures undergoing both translational and rotational motions. It also provides a simulation method for investigating the dynamic behavior of non-isotropic material plates in various applications.

One common way to aid coaching and seek to improve athletes’performance is by recording training sessions for posterior *** the case of sailing,coaches record videos from another boat,but usually rely on handheld devices,which may lead to issues with the footage and missing important *** the other hand,by autonomously recording the entire session with a fixed camera,the analysis becomes challenging owing to the length of the video and possible stabilization *** this work,we aim to facilitate the analysis of such full-session videos by automatically extracting maneuvers and providing a visualization framework to readily locate interesting ***,we address issues related to image ***,an evaluation of the framework points to the benefits of video stabilization in this scenario and an appropriate accuracy of the maneuver detection method.
