Synergistic effect of CeCl3 and benzotriazole on corrosion resistance of naturally aged and artificially aged AA2024 aluminium alloy

The corrosion behaviours of naturally aged and artificially aged AA2024 aluminium alloys in 0.5 mol/dm3 NaCl solution in the presence of environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors of 10 mmol/dm3 CeCl3, 10 mmol/dm3 BTA and the inhibitor mixture (5 mmol/dm3 CeCl3 + 5 mmol/dm3 BTA) were analyzed. The goal of this work was to determine the level of the synergistic effect of the inhibitor mixture and to explain the nature of this effect. Corrosion properties of the inhibitor layer were studied using the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), while the resistance to pit formation and pit growth was studied by applying potentiodynamic polarisation tests. The results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDS) showed that the size of pits formed in naturally aged aluminium alloy was smaller than that formed in artificially aged alloy. The synergistic effect of the inhibitor mixture on corrosion properties of naturally aged alloy was observed throughout 96 h, and in later phases of testing of artificially aged alloy. The synergistic effect of the inhibitor mixture was not noticed on pit formation and pit growth.

In this paper, an improved Differential Evolution (DE) that incorporates double wavelet-based operations is proposed to solve the Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problem. The double wavelet mutations are applied in order to enhance DE in exploring the solution space more effectively for better solution quality and stability. The first stage of wavelet operation is embedded in the DE mutation operation, in which the scaling factor is governed by a wavelet function. In the second stage, a wavelet-based mutation operation is embedded in the DE crossover operation. The trial population vectors are modified by the wavelet function. A suite of benchmark test functions is employed to evaluate the performance of the proposed DE in different problems. The result shows empirically that the proposed method out-performs signifycantly the conventional methods in terms of convergence speed, solution quality and solution stability. Then the proposed method is applied to the Economic Load Dispatch with Valve-Point Loading (ELD-VPL) problem, which is a process to share the power demand among the online generators in a power system for minimum fuel cost. Two different conditions of the ELD problem have been tested in this paper. It is observed that the proposed method gives satisfactory optimal costs when compared with the other techniques in the literature.

Improved surgical techniques and greater efficacy of new anti-rejection drugs have significantly improved the survival of patients undergoing orthotopic liver transplantation(OLT). This has led to an increased incidence of metabolic disorders as well as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases as causes of morbidity and mortality in OLT patients. In the last decade, several studies have examined which predisposing factors lead to increased cardiovascular risk(i.e., age, ethnicity, diabetes, NASH, atrial fibrillation, and some echocardiographic parameters) as well as which factors after OLT(i.e., weight gain, metabolic syndrome, immunosuppressive therapy, and renal failure) are linked to increased cardiovascular mortality. However, currently, there are no available data that evaluate the development of atherosclerotic damage after OLT. The awareness of high cardiovascular risk after OLT has not only lead to the definition of new but generally not accepted screening of high risk patients before transplantation, but also to the need for careful patient follow up and treatment to control metabolic and cardiovascular pathologies after transplant. Prospective studies are needed to better define the predisposing factors for recurrence and de novo occurrence of metabolic alterations responsible for cardiovascular damage after OLT. Moreover, such studies will help to identify the timing of disease progression and damage,which in turn may help to prevent morbidity and mortality for cardiovascular diseases. Our preliminary results show early occurrence of atherosclerotic damage, which is already present a few weeks following OLT, suggesting that specific, patient-tailored therapies should be started immediately post OLT.

To evaluate the frequency of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) CagA antibodies in H. pylori infected subjects and to identify potential histopathological and bacterial factors related to H. pylori CagA-immune response. METHODSSystematic data to H. pylori isolates, blood samples, gastric biopsies for histological and molecular analyses were available from 99 prospectively recruited subjects. Serological profile (anti-H. pylori, anti-CagA) was correlated with H. pylori isolates (cagA, EPIYA, vacA s/m genotype), histology (Sydney classification) and mucosal interleukin-8 (IL-8) mRNA and protein expression. Selected H. pylori strains were assessed for H. pylori CagA protein expression and IL-8 induction in co-cultivation model with AGS cells. RESULTSThirty point three percent of microbiologically confirmed H. pylori infected patients were seropositive for CagA. Majority of H. pylori isolates were cagA gene positive (93.9%) with following vacA polymorphisms: 42.4% vacA s1m1, 23.2% s1m2 and 34.3% s2m2. Anti-CagA-IgG seropositivity was strongly associated with atrophic gastritis, increased mucosal inflammation according to the Sydney score, IL-8 and cagA mRNA expression. VacA s and m polymorphisms were the major determinants for positive (vacA s1m1) or negative (vacA s2m2) anti-CagA serological immune response, which also correlated with the in vitro inflammatory potential in AGS cells. In vitro co-cultivation of representative H. pylori strains with AGS cells confirmed functional CagA translocation, which showed only partial correlation with CagA seropositivity in patients, supporting vacA as major co-determinant of the immune response. CONCLUSIONSerological immune response to H. pylori cagA+ strain in H. pylori infected patients is strongly associated with vacA polymorphism, suggesting the crucial role of bacterial factors in immune and clinical phenotype of the infection.

Objective To explore the prevalence、distribution and prognosis of Atrial fibrillation on preserved left ventricular systolic function of congestive heart failure(CHF) in hospitalized *** We reviewed the medical records of 346 unselected consecutive patients with heart failure,patients were categorized as having either normal left ventricular systolic function or systolic dysfunction based on the results of *** compared the 1 years clinical outcomes(stroke,myocardial infarction,unstable angina and cardiovascular death).Results AF was documented in 105 patients(65%),including 49 patients(30%) at baseline and 56 patients(35%) during subsequent follow-up with preserved left ventricular systolic function of *** occurrence of AF in patients of heart failure with LVEF≧50%was associated with an increase numbers of hospitalization and shorter time interval for readmission for CHF(P<0.05).Conclusion AF occurred in up to 2/3 patients with preserved left ventricular systolic function of *** occurrence of AF did not affect the 1 year outcomes in these patients,but increased their numbers of hospitalization for *** treatment and prevention of AF have important implication in the management of patients with preserved left ventricular systolic function of CHF.

The phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)-Akt-mechanistic target of rapamycin(mTOR)pathway is constitutively activated in human acute myeloid leukemia(AML)cells and is regarded as a possible therapeutic *** is an agonist of this pathway and a growth factor for AML *** characterized the effect of insulin on the phosphorylation of 10 mediators in the main track of the PI3K-Akt-mTOR pathway in AML cells from 76 consecutive *** overall results showed that insulin significantly increased the phosphorylation of all investigated ***,insulin effects on the pathway activation profile varied among patients,and increased phosphorylation in all mediators was observed only in a minority of patients;in other patients,insulin had divergent *** gene expression profiling and proteomic/phosphoproteomic comparisons suggested that AML cells from these two patient subsets differed with regard to AML cell differentiation,transcriptional regulation,RNA metabolism,and cellular *** insulin-induced phosphorylation was associated with weakened antiproliferative effects of metabolic ***3K,Akt,and mTOR inhibitors also caused divergent effects on the overall pathway phosphorylation profile in the presence of insulin,although PI3K and Akt inhibition caused a general reduction in Akt pT308 and 4EBP1 pT36/pT45 *** Akt inhibition,the phosphorylation of upstream mediators was generally increased or *** contrast,mTOR inhibition reduced mTOR pS2448 and S6 pS244 phosphorylation but increased Akt pT308 *** conclusion,the effects of both insulin and PI3K-Akt-mTOR inhibitors differ between AML patient subsets,and differences in insulin responsiveness are associated with differential susceptibility to metabolic targeting.

Recovery from a myocardial infarction (MI) can be a very difficult process and some patients are also stricken by fatigue. The aim of the study was to describe the difficulties experienced by men with fatigue during the first year following their MI. The study was conducted using qualitative content analysis of semi-structured interviews with nine men in working age (mean age: 55 years) with verified fatigue (≥12 of 20 on the Multidimensional fatigue Scale with a mean of 17) one year after their MI. During the first year after the MI the men suffering from fatigue experienced various difficulties in terms of both themselves and the care received. The analysis generated three themes with difficulties described by the interviewed men. 1) Going through involuntary change: not recognizing their body and the inability to recognize themselves. 2) Lacking individualized care: To be denied satisfactory health care treatment and to be denied respectful treatment. 3) Not being seen in the light of the social context: The MI affects the whole family and caregivers do not pay attention to the family. In order to make both the patient and relatives feel secure and cared for, it is essential that caregivers be aware of the importance of providing individualized care over time with particular attention for the patient’s social context.
