Background: Postoperative hemorrhage remains an uncommon but potentially life-threatening complication of thyroid surgery. The aim of this case-controlled study was to compare the effectiveness of PerClot® hemostatic agent with hemostasis by conventional technique (HCT) in thyroid surgery. Methods: The thyroid resection was performed from November 2009 to February 2010. Exclusion criteria were applied. There were 30 patients in the HCT group and 30 patients in the PerClot® group. The outcome parameters were postoperative bleeding, the drainage volume 24 hours postoperatively and adverse events according to PerClot®. Results: There was no post-operative hemorrhage in both groups. We found no significant difference between the control andPerClot® group with regard to total drainage volume after 24 h (51 ml ± 36.9 control group/53 ml ± 39.5 PerClot® group (p = 0.79)). There were no adverse events in the PerClot® group. Conclusions: Routine use of PerClot® hemostatic agent has no advantage over conventional hemostasis technique (HCT) in thyroid surgery. In addition, PerClot®?is safe and well tolerated.

The breeding period is a demanding and time-constrained phase for migratory bird *** outcome and duration can interact with the extent and duration of post-breeding movements,resulting in individual differences in space use ultimately influencing later stages of the annual *** present space-use and home range estimates during the breeding season for 21 European rollers Coracias garrulus tracked between 2018 and 2022,in Italy and *** high-resolution spatial GPS data coupled with regular nest-box monitoring,we analyzed dif-ferences in space use during the incubation/nestling period versus post-breeding period prior to migration,accounting for the breeding outcome(successful ***).We found that adult movements were strongly reduced during the first phase,whereas increased in the post-breeding phase,especially for failed *** breeders remained in the surroundings of the nest site,whereas unsuccessful ones tended to abandon the nest and visit distant areas(up to 500 km)for long periods(60.5±6.2 days).Breeding outcome did not influence the departure date of autumn migration,suggesting that failed breeders used this period for exploratory movements but not for advancing the onset of *** exploratory movements may be functional to prospect and inform settlement decisions in failed breeders in search of new breeding opportunities and may be particularly important in migratory species,which generally have a limited period to gather information prior to autumn *** study demonstrates the need to investigate seasonal movements in different populations and the potential importance of pros-pectingpost-breeding movements for long-distance migratory species.

Retrorectal, developmental tail gut cysts, include dermoid cysts, rectal duplication cysts and retrorectal cyst-hamartomas. Retrorectal cyst-hamartomas （RCH） are derived from remnants of the tail gut, the most caudal part of the embryonic hincl gut, which normally involutes by the 8^th wk of embryonic development （3-8 mm stage）. They have specific radiological and histopathological features that distinguish them from other similar formations （dermoid cysts, enteric duplication cysts and teratomas）. We report a patient with adenosquamous carcinoma arising within RCH, who underwent complete resection of the cyst through anterior laparotomy, and reached complete （recurrencefree for 14 mo, so far） functional recovery. The cyst was incidentally discovered during hysterectomy 12 years ago. Diagnostic, therapeutic arid histopathological aspects of this rare case are discussed. The mentioned pedod between diagnosis and surgical treatment suggests that RCH, given enough time, can develop malignant degeneration, and should be resected at the time of diagnosis.

Citizen scienee data have already been used to effectively address questions regarding migration,a fun dame ntal stage in the life history of *** this study,we use data from eBird and from 3 additional regional citizen scienee databases to describe the migration routes and timing of the red-footed falcon Falco vespertinus in the Mediterranean region across 8years(2010-2017).We further examine the seasonal and yearly variation in migration patterns and explore sites used during the species *** results suggest that the autumn passage is spatially less variable and temporally more consistent among years than in spring and that birds migrate faster in spring than in *** species seems to be more prevalent along the Central Mediterranean during spring migration,probably as a result of the clockwise loop migration that red-footed falcons *** was a high variation in annual median migration dates for both seasons as well as in migration routes across years and *** variation was exhibited in the longitudinal component thus indicating flexibility in migration *** additi on,our results showed the species'preference for I owl a nds covered with cropla nd and mosaics of cropland and natural vegetation as stopover sites during *** areas predicted from our distribution modeling highlight the importance of the Mediterranean islands as stopover sites for sea-crossing raptors,such as the red-footed *** study is the first to provide a broad-scale spatiotemporal perspective on the species migration across seasons,years and flyways and dem on strates how citize n science data can inform future monitori ng and conservation strategies.

BACKGROUND Recently,as a possible therapy resolving solution,pentadecapeptide BPC 157 therapy,has been used in alleviating various vascular occlusion *** 157 was previously reviewed as novel mediator of Robert cytoprotection and endothelium protection in the stomach,and gut-brain axis,beneficial therapy in gastrointestinal tract,with particular reference to vascular recruitment,ulcerative colitis and tumor cachexia,and other tissues *** we raised new hypothesis about BPC 157 therapy in the Budd-Chiari syndrome in rats,rapid bypassing of the suprahepatic inferior caval vein occlusion,and rats recovery with the active and effective pharmacotherapy *** To investigate Budd-Chiari syndrome model(inferior caval vein suprahepatic occlusion)resolution,since BPC 157 resolves various rat vascular *** We assessed the activated bypassing pathways between the inferior and superior caval veins and portocaval shunt,counteracted caval/portal hypertension,aortal hypotension,venous/arterial thrombosis,electrocardiogram disturbances,liver and gastrointestinal lesions(i.e.,stomach and duodenum hemorrhages,in particular,congestion).Rats with suprahepatic occlusion of the inferior vena cava by ligation were medicated at 1 min,15 min,24 h,or 48 h *** consisted of 10μg/kg BPC 157,10 ng BPC 157 or 5 m L/kg saline,administered once as an abdominal bath or intragastric *** and microscopic observations were made,in addition to assessments of electrical activity of the heart(electrocardiogram),portal and caval hypertension,aortal hypotension,thrombosis,hepatomegaly,splenomegaly and ***,levels of nitric oxide,malondialdehyde in the liver and serum enzymes were *** BPC 157 counteracted increased P wave amplitude,tachycardia and ST-elevation,i.e.,right heart failure from acute thrombotic coronary *** bypassing pathway of the inferior vena cava-azygos(hemiazygos)vein-superior
