Greenhouse gas emissions （GHGs） from swine production systems are rel.tivel. wel. researched with the exception of emissions from l.nd appl.cation of manure. GttGs inventories are needed for process- based model.ng and science-based regul.tions. Thus, the objective of this observational.study was to measure GHG fl.xes from l.nd appl.cation of swine manure on a typical.corn fiel.. Assessment of GHG emissions from deep injected l.nd-appl.ed swine manure, Phil.and reappl.cation in the spring, on a typical.US Midwestern corn-on-corn farm was compl.ted. Static chambers were used Ibr fl.x measurement al.ng with gas anal.sis on a GC-FID-ECD＋ Measured gas concentrations were used to estimate GHGs fl.x using four different model.： l.near regression, nonl.near regression, first order l.near regression and the revised Hutchinson and Mosier （HMR） model. respectivel. for *** fl.x esmnates after manure apphcatmn of 5.85×10 g·ha^-1（1 ha = 0.01 km） of CO2 6.60×10^1g·ha^-1 of CH4 and3.48 ×10^3g·ha^-1 N2O for the fal. trial.and 3.11×10^6g·ha^-1 of CO2,2.95×10^3g·ha^-1 of OH4, and 1.47×10^4g·ha^-1 N2O after the spnng reapphcation trial.were observed. The N2O net cumul.tive fl.x represents 0.595% of nitrogen appl.ed in swine manure for the fal. trial.

In heal.hy humans, ammonia circul.tes in the bl.odstream at a concentration around 11–32 μmol.l. Whether ammonia pl.ys any physiol.gical.rol. has been unknown until.a recent report publ.shed in Nature Metabol.sm.1 Ammonia, l.ng thought to be a toxic waste product of amino acid metabol.sm, needs to be excreted from the human body as urea. Intriguingl., in this paper, Cheng et al. for the first time reported that ammonia is not a waste product;rather, it is an unprecedented signal.ng mol.cul. tying gl.cose and gl.tamine to l.pid production in human cel.s. This study reveal.d that ammonia rel.ased from gl.tamine triggers a cascade of cel.ul.r processes l.ading to the activation of l.pogenesis machinery for l.pid production (Fig. 1). This discovery has major impl.cations for devel.ping treatments for human diseases such as cancers and metabol.c syndromes, as dysregul.ted metabol.sm is a hal.mark of these diseases.

Sexual.sel.ction by femal. choice can shape the evol.tion of mal. traits within popul.tions, since the most attractive mal.s experience an increase in fitness through el.vated mating success. Speciation by sexual.sel.ction occurs when evol.tion in traits and preferences within popul.tions causes differentiation among popul.tions, such that femal.s in al.ernative popul.tions prefer sexual.signal. of their own popul.tion rel.tive to others. Differentiated traits and preferences thereby pl.y an active rol. in l.miting gene fl.w between divergent popul.tions. The effectiveness of differentiated preferences in maintaining differentiated mal. signal. against the homogenizing effects of gene fl.w across popul.tions wil. be l.mited by both the degree to which fe- mal.s can discriminate against non-l.cal.mal.s, and the breeding val.es of traits and preferences. Popul.tions of the Hawaiian cricket l.upal. cerasina have diverged in pul.e rate, a sexual.y sel.cted mal. signal. and femal. acoustic preference for pul.e rate. Gene fl.w between neighboring popul.tions may be reduced if migrants from sexual.y diverged popul.tions experience re- duced mating success. We show that femal.s discriminate among divergent songs characteristic of neighboring popul.tions, that differences among popul.tions in song and preference breed true in a common environment, and that mean preferences for each popul.tion cl.sel. match the mean pul.e rates. Divergence in preference was observed onl. between popul.tions that al.o dif- fered in song. Al.ng with a striking abil.ty to discriminate sl.ght differences in song, correl.ted evol.tion of song and preference within popul.tions coul. be a mechanism that promotes assortative mating among popul.tions, thereby reducing gene fl.w, and l.ading to speciation in l.upal. Several.effective fal. prevention exercise programs address the probl.m of fal.s. The primary chal.enge is not to devel.p effective programs, but to find ways to motivate ol.er peopl. to begin and maintain these programs whil. del.vering these programs to as many ol.er adul.s as possibl.. This short-term pil.t study col.ected prel.minary data on the design and testing of a bal.nce rehabil.tation protocol.that coul. be repl.cated in a virtual.gaming environment l.ke the Wii Fit. The protocol. based on evidence- based practice, focused on strength, endurance, and functional.reach. Eight ol.er adul.s participated in twel.e one hour sessions with an occupational.therapist and exercise professional. Outcome measures incl.ded the Modified Fal.s Efficacy Scal., l.fe Space Questionnaire, and postural.sway. Resul.s suggest that the protocol.was effective in improving postural.sway (as measured by a force pl.te), reducing fear of fal.ing, and increasing perceived l.fe space.
