A blockchain consists of an ordered list with nodes and links where the nodes store information and are connected through links called chains.This technology supports the availability of a publicly maintained ledger of transactions,first gaining mainstream attraction with cryptocurrencies.A myriad of other applications have emerged ever since.There has been a steady growth in the number of research studies conducted in this field;as such,there is a need to review the research in this field.This paper conducts an extensive review on 76 journal publications in the field of blockchain from 2016 to 2018 available in Science Citation Index(SCI)and Social Science Citation Index(SSCI)database.The aim of this paper is to present scholars and practitioners with a detailed overview of the available research in the field of blockchain.The selected papers have been grouped into 14 categories.The contents of papers in each category are summarized and future research direction for each category is outlined.This overview indicates that the research in blockchain is becoming more prominent and requires more effort in developing new methodologies and framework to integrate blockchain.It is the need of today’s growing business that ventures into new technologies like cloud computing and Internet of Things(IoT).

Big data analytics and big data science:a survey

Big data has attracted much attention from academia and industry.But the discussion of big data is disparate,fragmented and distributed among different outlets.This paper conducts a systematic and extensive review on 186 journal publications about big data from 2011 to 2015 in the Science Citation Index(SCI)and the Social Science Citation Index(SSCI)database aiming to provide scholars and practitioners with a comprehensive overview and big picture about research on big data.The selected papers are grouped into 20 research categories.The contents of the paper(s)in each research category are summarized.Research directions for each category are outlined as well.The results in this study indicate that the selected papers were mainly published between 2013 and 2015 and focus on technological issues regarding big data.Diverse new approaches,methods,frameworks and systems are proposed for data collection,storage,transport,processing and analysis in the selected papers.Possible directions for future research on big data are discussed.

Domesticated buffaloes have been integral to rice-paddy agro-ecosystems for millennia, yet relatively little is known about the buffalo genomics. Here, we sequenced and assembled reference genomes for both swamp and river buffaloes and we re-sequenced 230 individuals(132 swamp buffaloes and 98 river buffaloes)sampled from across Asia and Europe. Beyond the many actionable insights that our study revealed about the domestication, basic physiology and breeding of buffalo, we made the striking discovery that the divergent domestication traits between swamp and river buffaloes can be explained with recent selections of genes on social behavior, digestion metabolism, strengths and milk production.

Ca-sensing receptors(Ca SRs) modulate calcium and magnesium homeostasis and many(patho)physiological processes by responding to extracellular stimuli, including divalent cations and amino acids. We report herein the first crystal structure of the extracellular domain(ECD) of human Ca SR bound with Mg and a tryptophan derivative ligand at 2.1 ?. The structure reveals key determinants for cooperative activation by metal ions and aromatic amino acids. The unexpected tryptophan derivative was bound in the hinge region between the two globular ECD subdomains and represents a novel high-affinity co-agonist of Ca SR. The dissection of structure-function relations by mutagenesis, biochemical and functional studies provides insights into the molecular basis of human diseases arising from Ca SR mutations. The data also provide a novel paradigm for understanding the mechanism of Ca SR-mediated signaling that is likely shared by the other family C GPCR members and can facilitate the development of novel Ca SR-based therapeutics.
