The phenomenal rise in the demand of biosensors accelerated their rapid development and immersive applications in the myriads of fields. The essential requirement of developing efficient bio-sensing platform is to find stable well organized interfacial architecture that can serve as an excellent matrix for binding and recognizing biomolecules. In this context, the enormous potential has been envisaged in surface layer proteins that represented themselves as most primitive and simplest self-assembled system with repetitive physicochemical properties for the molecular functionalization of surfaces and various interfaces. The prominence of S-layer proteins has been broadened by integrating genetic engineering approaches for the fine tuning of functional groups and protein domains in geometrically well-defined manner. The efficient and stable binding of various nanomaterials with S-layers in regular arrays has led to paradigmatic shift in their nano-biotechnological sensing applications. More recently, functional S-layer supported lipid membranes have been generated through covalent binding of lipid molecules either with native or recombinant S-layer proteins at nano-scale dimensions serving as “proof of concept” for the development of bio-sensing platform. Thus, in the light of benefits conferred by surface layer proteins for the development of highly efficient biosensors, an exciting path has been opened for broadening their translational applications in drug delivery, disease diagnosis, vaccines development, lab-on-chip devices etc. Therefore, this review intends to describe about the importance of surface layer proteins in the development of biosensors.

Whether swarms of preferentially oriented dykes are controlled by regional stress fields, or passively exploit basement structural fabric, is a much debated question, with support for either scenario in individual case studies. The Sarnu-Dandali alkaline complex, near the northwestern limit of the Deccan Traps continental flood basalt province, contains mafic to felsic alkaline volcano-plutonic rocks and carbonatites. The complex is situated near the northern end of the 600 km long, NNWe SSE-trending Barmer-Cambay rift. Mafic enclave swarms in the syenites suggest synplutonic mafic dykes injected into a largely liquid felsic magma chamber. Later coherent dykes in the complex, of all compositions and sizes,dominantly strike NNWe SSE, parallel to the Barmer-Cambay rift. The rift formed during two distinct episodes of extension, NWe SE in the early Cretaceous and NEe SW in the late Cretaceous. Control of the southern Indian Dharwar structural fabric on the rift trend, as speculated previously, is untenable,whereas the regional Precambrian basement trends（Aravalli and Malani） run NEe SW and NNEe *** therefore suggest that the small-scale Sarnu-Dandali dykes and the much larger-scale BarmerCambay rift were not controlled by basement structure, but related to contemporaneous, late Cretaceous regional ENEe WSW extension, for which there is varied independent evidence.

Two-dimensional(2D)gas chromatography(GC)provides enhanced vapor separation capabilities in contrast to conventional one-dimensional GC and is useful for the analysis of highly complex chemical *** developed a microfabricated flow-restricted pneumatic modulator(FRPM)for portable comprehensive 2D micro-GC(μGC),which enables rapid ^(2)D injection and separation without compromising the ^(1)D separation speed and eluent peak profiles.^(2)D injection characteristics such as injection peak width and peak height were fully characterized by using flow-through micro-photoionization detectors(μPIDs)at the FRPM inlet and outlet.A ^(2)D injection peak width of~25 ms could be achieved with a ^(2)D/^(1)D flow rate ratio over *** FRPM was further integrated with a 0.5-m long ^(2)D μcolumn on the same chip,and its performance was ***,we developed an automated portable comprehensive 2D μGC consisting of a 10m OV-11D μcolumn,an integrated FRPM with a built-in 0.5m polyethylene glycol ^(2)D μcolumn,and two μ*** separation of 40 volatile organic compounds in~5 min was demonstrated.A hybrid 2D contour plot was constructed by using both ^(1)D and ^(2)D chromatograms obtained with the two μPIDs at the end of the ^(1)D and ^(2)D μcolumns,which was enabled by the presence of the flow resistor in the FRPM.

Polymers are being used extensively in drug delivery due to their surface and bulk properties. They are being used in drug formulations and in drug delivery devices. These drug delivery devices may be in the form of implants for controlled drug delivery. Polymers used in colloidal drug carrier systems, consisting of small particles, show great advantage in drug delivery systems because of optimized drug loading and releasing property. Polymeric nano particulate systems are available in wide variety and have established chemistry. Non toxic, biodegradable and biocompatible polymers are available. Some nano particulate polymeric systems possess ability to cross blood brain barrier. They offer protection against chemical degradation. Smart polymers are responsive to atmospheric stimulus like change in temperature;pressure, pH etc. thus are extremely beneficial for targeted drug delivery. Some polymeric systems conjugated with antibodies/specific biomarkers help in detecting molecular targets specifically in cancers. Surface coating with thiolated PEG, Silica-PEG improves water solubility and photo stability. Surface modification of drug carriers e.g. attachment with PEG or dextran to the lipid bilayer increases their blood circulation time. Polymer drug conjugates such as Zoladex, Lupron Depot, On Caspar PEG intron are used in treatment of prostate cancer and lymphoblastic leukemia. Polymeric Drug Delivery systems are being utilized for controlled drug delivery assuring patient compliance.

Layered perovskite manganite ceramics with a nominal chemistry La1.5Ca1.5Mn2-xFexO7(x = 0.0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5) were prepared using sol-gel method. The manganese ions are highly mixed states of Mn3+ and Mn4+. It is found that the Mn3+/Mn4+ ratio decreases with the Fe doping content increasing. The conductivity and magnetoresistance (MR) were studied. The sample of x = 0.05 shows metal insulator transition (MIT) at 135 K. The MIT peak temperature (Tp) shifts towards higher temperature with increasing applied magnetic field. All the samples can be well fitted to the variable-range hopping (VRH) model. The maximum value of MR (%) [ρ(0) - ρ(H)]/ρ(0) × 100 for x = 0.05 is 34% (105 K, 7 kOe).

Ozone (O3) is a stratospheric layer that plays important role in providing support to humans for their survival. It is an essential factor for many global, biological and environmental phenomena. The ultra-violet (UV) rays emitted from sun are captured by ozone and thereby provide a stable ontological structure in the biosphere. Various anthropogenic activities such as emissions of CFCs, HCFCs and other organo-halogens lead to the depletion of ozone. The ozone depletion resulted in secondary production of an ozone layer near the ground (terrestrial ozone layer), which is responsible for adverse effects on plants, humans and environment with increased number of bronchial diseases in humans. The mutations caused by UV rays result in variation in morphogenic traits of plants which ultimately decreases crop productivity. However, UV radiation is required in optimum intensity for both plants and animals. This review takes into an account the wide ranging effects of ozone depletion with a majority of them being detrimental to the plant system.

Can Waist Circumference Be Used as an Anthropometric Parameter to Assess the Obesity Related Pregnancy Outcome: A Case Control Study

Introduction: The prevalence of obesity is increasing in women of reproductive age. Maternal obesity is associated with increased morbidity and mortality for both mother and offspring. BMI has been criticized as a limited measure of total obesity. Measurement of waist circumference can be useful in the assessment of abdominal obesity and disease risk. The study is aimed to evaluate the waist circumference as an anthropometric parameter in identifying women at risk of developing obstetric complications. Material and Methods: A prospective study was conducted at a tertiary health care centre on 200 antenatal women of age between 18 to 35 years with singleton pregnancy attending the antenatal clinic before 8 weeks of gestation. Women were divided into two groups. Group I included 100 women with waist circumference < 80 cm and Group II included 100 women with waist circumference ≥ 80 cm. Weight, height and waist circumference were measured and BMI was calculated. All the women were followed throughout their pregnancies as per the routine antenatal follow up. The fetomaternal outcome was recorded and analyzed statistically. Results: The two groups were comparable in age, parity and demographic profile. The maternal and neonatal complications—preeclampsia (p = 0.0052, RR 0.5062, 95% CI 0.2935 - 0.8728), gestational diabetes mellitus, preterm labor, postdatism, need for induction of labor (p value 0.0081, RR 0.6263, 95% CI 0.4314, 0.9091), instrumental vaginal delivery, cesarean delivery (p = 0.0072, RR 0.5745, 95% CI 0.3696, 0.8929), shoulder dystocia, PPH, macrosomia, neonatal asphyxia, admission to NICU were reported more in Group II women as compared to Group I. Conclusion: Assessment of waist circumference in early pregnancy provides a simple and practical parameter for predicting obesity related pregnancy outcome. All pregnancies in centrally obese women (waist circumference ≥ 80 cm) shall be acknowledged as high risk.
