BACKGROUND Diabetes is known damage the liver and kidney,leading to hepatic dysfunction and kidney *** is believed to help in lowering the blood glucose levels of diabetic patients and reducing diabetic ***,the effect of stingless bee honey(SBH)administration in relieving liver and kidney damage in diabetes has not been *** To investigate the effect of SBH administration on the kidney and liver of streptozotocin-induced(STZ;55 mg/kg)diabetic Sprague Dawley *** The rats were grouped as follows(n=6 per group):non-diabetic(ND),untreated diabetic(UNT),metformin-treated(MET),and SBH+metformin-treated(SBME)*** successful diabetic induction,ND and UNT rats were given normal saline,whereas the treatment groups received SBH(2.0 g/kg and/or metformin(250 mg/kg)for 12 *** biochemical parameters and histological changes using hematoxylin and eosin(H&E)and periodic acid–Schiff(PAS)staining were *** On H&E and PAS staining,the ND group showed normal architecture and cellularity of Bowman’s capsule and tubules,whereas the UNT and MET groups had an increased glomerular cellularity and thickened basement *** SBH-treated group showed a decrease in hydropic changes and mild cellularity of the glomerulus vs the ND group based on H&E staining,but the two were similar on PAS ***,the SBME-treated group had an increase in cellularity of the glomerulus on H&E staining,but it was comparable to the SBH and ND groups on PAS *** diabetic rats had tubular hydropic tubules,which were smaller than other *** fatty vacuole formation and dilated blood sinusoids in liver tissue were seen in the SBH ***,the UNT group had high glucose levels,which subsequently increased MDA levels,ultimately leading to liver *** treatment reduced this damage,as evidenced by having the lowest fasting glucose,serum alanine transaminase,aspartate transaminase,and alkaline phosphatase l

Electricity price forecasting(EPF)is important for energy system operations and management which include strategic bidding,generation scheduling,optimum storage reserves scheduling and systems ***,accurate EPF is crucial for the purpose of bidding strategies and minimizing the risk for market participants in the competitive electricity ***,accurate time-series prediction of electricity price is very challenging due to complex nonlinearity in the trend of electricity *** work proposes a mid-term forecasting model based on the demand and price data,renewable and non-renewable energy supplies,the seasonality and peak and off-peak hours of working and nonworking *** optimized Gated Recurrent Unit(GRU)which incorporates Bagged Regression Tree(BTE)is developed in the Recurrent Neural Network(RNN)architecture for the mid-term *** layer is employed to optimize the hyperparameters of the heterogeneous GRU with the aim to improve the model’s performance,error reduction and predict the *** this work,the proposed framework is assessed using electricity market data of five major economical states in Australia by using electricity market data from August 2020 to May *** results showed significant improvement when adopting the proposed prediction framework compared to previous works in forecasting the electricity price.

Valorization of malaysian tropical fruit seeds: A review of their nutrition, bioactivity, processing and food application

Malaysia produces varieties of tropical fruits such as durian, rambutan, jackfruit, mango, papaya, and mangosteen but the seeds are considered waste. The seeds contain beneficial nutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, fat, and minerals, and have high bioactive properties. Various processing methods have been applied to extract the seeds and apply them to the food system. The information is scattered and incomprehensive, therefore, this paper aims to review the chemical properties and biological activities of the selected tropical fruit seeds, and their processing and functional properties to the food. Most seeds are rich in carbohydrates but also contain various minerals and fatty acids. The antioxidant, antidiabetic, anti-bacterial/anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-hyper cholesterol and anti-proliferative properties were also reported with rambutan and papaya seeds having the most bioactive properties. Novel and conventional extraction methods of the seeds, the functionality of the seeds to improve the food such as pasting and emulsifying properties, and their effect on the colour, texture, sensory and storage stability were also highlighted. In summary, all the selected seeds have the potential to be upcycled as food ingredients as they contain various nutrients while providing therapeutic and functional properties, however, further research can be considered to optimize the seeds' usability.

Pancreatic injury in patients with septic shock: A literature review

Sepsis and septic shock are life threatening condition associated with high mortality rate in critically-ill patients. This high mortality is mainly related to the inadequacy between oxygen delivery and cellular demand leading to the onset of multiorgan dysfunction. Whether this multiorgan failure affect the pancreas is not fully investigated. In fact, pancreatic injury may occur because of ischemia, overwhelming inflammatory response, oxidative stress, cellular apoptosis and/or metabolic derangement. Increased serum amylase and/or lipase levels are common in patients with septic shock. However, imaging test rarely reveal significant pancreatic damage. Whether pancreatic dysfunction does affect the prognosis of patients with septic shock or not is still a matter of debate. In fact, only few studies with limited sample size assessed the clinical relevance of the pancreatic injury in this group of patients. In this review, we aimed to describe the epidemiology and the physiopathology of pancreatic injury in septic shock patients, to clarify whether it requires specific management and to assess its prognostic value. Our main finding is that pancreatic injury does not significantly affect the outcome in septic shock patients. Hence, increased serum pancreatic enzymes without clinical features of acute pancreatitis do not require further imaging investigations and specific therapeutic intervention.
