A fluid jet ejected from micron size nozzle is a commonly occurring phenomenon in biomedical engineering,printing technology and micro-fluidic *** of a jet into drops occurs due to disturbances induced by external *** work explores the various sources of perturbation and their effect on jet disintegration through numerical simulation of a two-dimensional non-isothermal *** mathematical approach uses a novel technique to combine analytical solutions for the energy balance equation in the radial direction to solve the complete two dimensional *** two dimensional energy balance equation is simultaneously solved together with the axi-symmetric Navier–Stokes equations using the slender-jet approximation to predict jet *** energy balance takes into account of peripheral heat transfer to the environment through analytical expressions derived from radial *** model helps in understanding the factors in dynamic temperature variations that eventually render the jet *** distinguishing aspect of this work is the analysis of the effect of a periodic thermal perturbation applied at any point in the domain of a progressive jet,a situation typically encountered in thermal inkjet printers and not considered *** presented for non-isothermal jets which are both stationary and moving illustrate the effect of jet velocity in propagation of perturbation and subsequent drop *** major contribution of this numerical study is that it provides an insight on novel ways of controlling droplet formation in bubble jet *** study demonstrates that thermal disturbance propagating from periodic heating can be manipulated to shape the droplets and control their breakage point along the jet.

The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome CoronaVirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)virus spread the novel CoronaVirus−19(nCoV-19)pandemic,resulting in millions of fatalities *** research demonstrated that the Protein-Protein Interaction(PPI)between SARS-CoV-2 and human proteins is accountable for viral ***,many of these PPIs are poorly understood and unexplored,necessitating a more in-depth investigation to find latent yet critical *** article elucidates the host-viral PPI through Machine Learning(ML)lenses and validates the biological significance of the same using web-based *** classifiers are designed based on comprehensive datasets with five sequence-based features of human proteins,namely Amino Acid Composition,Pseudo Amino Acid Composition,Conjoint Triad,Dipeptide Composition,and Normalized Auto Correlation.A majority voting rule-based ensemble method composed of the Random Forest Model(RFM),AdaBoost,and Bagging technique is proposed that delivers encouraging statistical performance compared to other models employed in this *** proposed ensemble model predicted a total of 111 possible SARS-CoV-2 human target proteins with a high likelihood factor≥70%,validated by utilizing Gene Ontology(GO)and KEGG pathway enrichment ***,this research can aid in a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying viral pathogenesis and provide clues for developing more efficient anti-COVID medications.

A Power Management Scheme for Grid-connected PV Integrated with Hybrid Energy Storage System

The penetration of renewable energy sources(RESs)in the distribution system becomes a challenge for the reliable and safe operation of the existing power *** sporadic characteristics of sustainable energy sources along with the random load variations greatly affect the power quality and stability of the ***,it requires storage systems with both high energy and high power handling capacity to coexist in *** efficient energy management structure is designed in this paper for a grid-connected PV system combined with hybrid storage of supercapacitor and *** combined supercapacitor and battery storage system grips the average and transient power changes,which provides a quick control for the DC-link voltage,i.e.,it stabilizes the system and helps achieve the PV power *** average power distribution between the power grid and battery is done by checking the state of charge(SOC)of a battery,and an effective and efficient energy management scheme is ***,the use of a supercapacitor lessens the current stress on the battery system during unexpected disparity in the generated power and load *** performance and efficacy of the proposed energy management scheme are justified by simulation studies.

Creeping Tiger,Soaring Dragon:India,China and Competition in Information Technologies

Although conventional international economic wisdom holds China ＇s hardware and India ＇s software industries to be equipotential, little attempt has been made to compare their information industries in an overarehing dynamic framework. Using a schema that links intellectual to financial value creation, it is found that China has systematically moved ahead in creating a self-supporting industrial and innovation ecosystem. Hardware enjoys higher barriers to entry, which the Chinese companies are increasingly reinforcing with intellectual property investments. In addition to being better integrated with the global economy, they are also buttressed by the huge domestic market. The overdependence of Indian firms on selling low-value services to a few countries and insulation from domestic demand make them vulnerable to emerging competition and international economic ill-winds. The two countries provide a study in contrast on the effects of divergent industrial strategies.

In earthquake prone areas, understanding of the seismic passive earth resistance is very important for the design of different geotechnical earth retaining structures. In this study, the limit equilibrium method is used for estimation of critical seismic passive earth resistance for an inclined wall supporting horizontal cohesionless backfill. A composite failure surface is considered in the present analysis. Seismic forces are computed assuming the backfill soil as a viscoelastic material overlying a rigid stratum and the rigid stratum is subjected to a harmonic shaking. The present method satisfies the boundary conditions. The amplification of acceleration depends on the properties of the backfill soil and on the characteristics of the input motion. The acceleration distribution along the depth of the backfill is found to be nonlinear in nature. The present study shows that the horizontal and vertical acceleration distribution in the backfill soil is not always in-phase for the critical value of the seismic passive earth pressure coefficient. The effect of different parameters on the seismic passive earth pressure is studied in detail. A comparison of the present method with other theories is also presented, which shows the merits of the present study.

Artificial Neural Network （ANN） and Regression Tree （CART） applications for the indirect estimation of unsaturated soil shear strength parameters

The shear strength parameters of soil （cohesion and angle of internal friction） are quite essential in solving many civil engineering problems. In order to determine these parameters, laboratory tests are used. The main objective of this work is to evaluate the potential of Artificial Neural Network （ANN） and Regression Tree （CART） techniques for the indirect estimation of these parameters. Four different models, considering different combinations of 6 inputs, such as gravel %, sand %, silt %, clay %, dry density, and plasticity index, were investigated to evaluate the degree of their effects on the prediction of shear parameters. A performance evaluation was carried out using Correlation Coefficient and Root Mean Squared Error measures. It was observed that for the prediction of friction angle, the performance of both the techniques is about the same. However, for the prediction of cohesion, the ANN technique performs better than the CART technique. It was further observed that the model considering all of the 6 input soil parameters is the most appropriate model for the prediction of shear parameters. Also, connection weight and bias analyses of the best neural network （i.e., 6/2/2） were attempted using Connec- tion Weight, Garson, and proposed Weight-bias approaches to characterize the influence of input variables on shear strength parameters. It was observed that the Connection Weight Approach provides the best overall methodology for accurately quantifying variable importance, and should be favored over the other approaches examined in this study.

Indonesia’s new wage policy mechanism made a new history since Joko Widodo(Jokowi)became *** first minimum wages policy in Indonesia was implemented in 1969 in which the determination comes from society^monthly necessities through a discussion involving labor,employer,and state,it is known that the determination is no longer using aforementioned variables but it is rather based on a market-standard *** paper exploring the logic political-economic of wage policies implementation based on neoliberalism in the first presidency of Jokowi,which has implications for affirming cheap wages *** research uses a qualitative method by comparing two regions with different economic bases,namely Bekasi as the largest industrial area in Southeast Asia and Yog-yakarta as the province with the highest national economy inequality and the cheapest national minimum wage *** findings of this research show that this new wage formulation is emerged from the ideology of corporatism that takes place in every power transfer process and has the implication of reinforcing wage inequality that occurs in the local context in ***,this regulation eliminates the democratic mechanism in the form of tripartite through a survey of monthly necessities which is carried out by labor,government and employer every year and has divided the strength of trade unions in fighting for the determination of decent wages.

A simplified approach to assess seismic stability of tailings dams

In the zones of high seismic activity, tailings dam should be assessed for the stability against earthquake forces. In the present paper, a simplified method is proposed to compute the factor of safety of tailings dams. The strain-dependent dynamic properties are used to assess the stability of tailings dams under seismic conditions. The effect of foundation soil properties on the seismic stability of tailings dams is studied using the proposed method. For the given input parameters, the factor of safety for lowfrequency input motions is nearly 26% lower than that for high-frequency input excitations. The impedance ratio and the depth of foundation have significant effect on the seismic factor of safety of tailings dams. The results from the proposed method are well compared with the existing pseudo-static method of analysis. Tailings dams are vulnerable to damage for low-frequency input motions.

Spherical-earth finite element model of coseismic slip distribution during the 2010 Mentawai earthquake

The moment magnitude(MW)7.8 earthquake occurred along the Mentawai seismic region of Sunda Trench on 25 October 2010,which is classified as the tsunami *** GPS inversion results under the assumption of simple horizontal layered medium show that the slip near the trench is not apparent,which is inconsistent with our understanding of tsunami ***,we construct a spherical-earth finite element model(FEM)to investigate the coseismic slip distribution of the 2010 Mentawai earthquake by geometrically combining the subducting plate with a precise subduction *** FEM-based coseismic slip distribution shows that there are three major slip patches on the fault interface,one is located on the shallow region and the other two are located on the deeper part of the fault *** largest slip patch is located near the trench with the depth less than 10 km,and the maximum amplitude is about 12 *** significant near-trench slip is consistent with the tsunami earthquake studies.A more realistic domain of FEM is used to change the coseismic slip distribution,thus significantly improving the fitting degree of the data *** findings suggest that the FEM-derived Green's function is essential to image a more robust and realistic coseismic slip distribution of the large earthquake in the subduction zone.
