Influence of anthropogenic activities on landslide susceptibility:A case study in Solan district,Himachal Pradesh,India

Landslides in the Himalayan region are primarily controlled by natural parameters,including rainfall,seismic activity,and anthropogenic parameters,such as the construction of large-scale projects like road development,tunneling and hydroelectric power projects and climate *** parameters which are more crucial among these are a matter of scientific study and *** research,taking Solan district,Himachal Pradesh,India,as the study area,aims to assess the impact of anthropogenic activities on landslide susceptibility at a regional *** distribution was characterized into two groups,namely Rainfall-Induced Landslide(RIL)and Human-Induced Landslide(HIL)based on triggering *** data such as slope angle,aspect,profile curvature,distance to drainage,distance to lineament,lithology,distance to road,normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)and land use land cover(LULC)have been considered for delineating the landslide susceptibility zonation(LSZ)*** effect of anthropogenic activities on landslide occurrences has been examined through the distribution of landslides along national highways and land use land cover changes(LULCC).Two sets of LSZ maps with a LULC of time interval covering five years(2017&2021)were prepared to compare the temporal progression of LULC and landslide susceptibility during the five *** results indicated the significant impact of anthropogenic activities on the landslide *** map of the year 2021 shows that 23%area falls into high and very high susceptible classes and 48%area falls into very low and low susceptibility *** to LSZ map of 2017,high and very high susceptible classes have been increased by 15%,whereas very low and low susceptible classes have been reduced by 7%.The present case study will help to understand the potential driving parameters responsible for HIL and also suggest the inclusion of LULC in landslide susceptibility *** study will demonstrate new

Study on the Reflection Spectra of One Dimensional Plasma Photonic Crystals Having Exponentially Graded Materials

The transfer matrix method is used to study the effect of the permittivity profile on the reflectivity of a one dimensional plasma photonic crystal having exponentially graded material. The analysis shows that the proposed structure works as a perfect mirror within a certain frequency range. These frequency ranges can be completely controlled by the permittivity profile of a graded dielectric layer. As expected we observed that these frequency ranges are also controlled by plasma parameters.

Intensification of photocatalytic decomposition of water by ultrasound

Photocatalysis of water with and without ultrasound was studied using rGO supported CdS catalyst utilizing visible light. A higher hydrogen production was observed when ultrasound was used. This is attributed to a faster removal of bubbles of hydrogen from the surface of photocatalyst due to the mechanical energy associated with ultrasound overcoming surface tension. It has been further reported that the rate of hydrogen production decreased with time due to reversible deactivation of catalyst. This has been attributed to decrease in rate of hydrogen desorption with time.

Variation in the Flaring Potential of Different Sunspot Groups During Different Phases of Solar Cycles 23 and 24

In this present study,we have analyzed different types of X-ray solar flares(C,M,and X classes)coming out from different classes of sunspot groups(SSGs).The data which we have taken under this study cover the duration of 24 yr from 1996 to *** this,we observed a total of 15015 flares(8417 in SC-23 and 6598 in SC-24)emitted from a total of 33780 active regions(21746 in SC-23 and 12034 in SC-24)with sunspot *** defined the flaring potential or flare-production potential as the ratio of the total number of flares produced from a particular type of SSG to the total number of the same-class SSGs observed on the solar *** we studied yearly changes in the flaring potential of different McIntosh class groups of sunspots in different phases of SC-23 and *** addition,we investigated yearly variations in the potential of producing flares by different SSGs(A,B,C,D,E,F,and H)during different phases(ascending,maximum,descending,and minimum)of SC-23 and *** are our findings:(1)D,E,and F SSGs have the potential of producing flares≥8 times greater than A,B,C and H SSGs;(2)The larger and more complex D,E,and F SSGs produced nearly 80%of flares in SC-23 and 24;(3)The A,B,C and H SSGs,which are smaller and simpler,produced only 20%of flares in SC-23 and 24;(4)The biggest and most complex SSGs of F-class have flaring potential 1.996 and 3.443 per SSG in SC-23 and 24,respectively.(5)The potential for producing flares in each SSG is higher in SC-24 than in SC-23,although SC-24 is a weaker cycle than SC-23.(6)The alterations in the number of flares(C+M+X)show different time profiles than the alterations in sunspot numbers during SC-23 and 24,with several peaks.(7)The SSGs of C,D,E,and H-class have the highest flaring potential in the descending phase of both SC-23 and 24.(8)F-class SSGs have the highest flaring potential in the descending phase of SC-23 but also in the maximum phase of SC-24.

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells(MDSCs)are a main driver of immunosuppression in *** the mechanisms that determine the development and immunosuppressive function of these cells could provide new therapeutic targets to improve antitumor ***,using preclinical murine models,we discovered that exportin 1(XPO1)expression is upregulated in tumor MDSCs and that this upregulation is induced by IL-6-induced STAT3 activation during MDSC ***1 blockade transforms MDSCs into T-cell-activating neutrophil-like cells,enhancing the antitumor immune response and restraining tumor ***,XPO1 inhibition leads to the nuclear entrapment of ERk1/2,resulting in the prevention of ERk1/2 phosphorylation following the IL-6-mediated activation of the MAPk signaling ***,XPO1 blockade in human MDSCs induces the formation of neutrophil-like cells with immunostimulatory ***,our findings revealed a critical role for XPO1 in MDSC differentiation and suppressive functions;exploiting these new discoveries revealed new targets for reprogramming immunosuppressive MDSCs to improve cancer therapeutic responses.

Effect of organic component(tartrate) addition on cerium nitrate's ability to inhibit corrosion of mild steel in NaCl solution

Cerium tartrate(CeTar),produced in this study by precipitating cerium nitrate with potassium sodium tartrate(kNaTar),was examined as a corrosion *** loss tests show inhibition efficiency of 71.7% with Ce(NO_(3))_(3) and 88.7% with CeTar inhibitor for one-month exposure to mild steel in 7 g/L NaCl *** inhibition efficiency drops to 28.6% with the fo rmer and remains around 8 7% with the latter inhibitor after six months of *** results from electrochemical testing indicate that the inhibition efficiency decreases by adding cerium ***,the cerium tartrate inhibitor demonstrates a nearly constant inhibition efficiency for up to 30 d,i.e.,≈90%.Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) performed in these cases shows the following results:(ⅰ) with cerium nitrate,a film of iron and cerium oxide,which on prolonged exposure diminishes,and(ⅱ) with cerium tartrate,the formation of a bimetallic film(Fe-tartrate-Ce) and a mixture of cerium hydroxide and iro n oxide that protects steel for a longer *** inferences are based on the analyses of scanning electron microscopy/energydispersive X-ray analysis(SEM/EDAX),X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),X-ray photoelectron(XPS),and Raman spectroscopy results.

Petrographic characterization and evolution of the karharbari coals, Talcher Coalfield, Orissa, India

In the present study an attempt has been made to carry out the detailed petrographic characterization of the karharbari coals of Talcher coalfield and to reconstruct the paleoenvironment conditions of coal formation using macerals and microlithtotypes as a tool. For these purposes a large number of samples were collected following the pillar sampling method and were subjected to detailed petrographic study. The petrographic observation shows that these coals are vitrinite rich followed by the liptinite and inertinite group of macerals. On microlithotype scale, these coals shows the dominance of the vitrite followed by clarite, vitrinertite and inertite. The concentration of liptite, clarodurite, duroclarite and vitriner- toliptite are insignificant. The vitrinite reflectance ranks the karharbari coal as high volatile bituminous ＇C＇ to high volatile ＇B＇ bituminous. Coal petrography based depositional models suggest peat accumulation in forested telmatic swamp. Moreover, during the time of their evolution, there were alternate phases of oxic and anoxic moor conditions with good tissue preservation.

Heliospheric Effect on Solar Activity Parameters during Maximum Phase of Solar Cycle 24(2012–2015)

The time series of daily data on solar activity proxies, namely the sunspot number(SSN), sunspot area(SSA), solar radio flux(F10.7), modified coronal index(MCI), solar flare index(FI), and cosmic ray intensity(CRI), were analyzed to understand the solar activity modulations and short-term periodicities therein. Rieger-type and other short-term periods include the solar rotational period that covers the maximum activity phase period(maximum phase of solar cycle 24). The wavelet power spectra and Periodogram of SSN, SSA, F10.7, MCI, FI, and CRI exhibited a significant short-term period. The heliospheric effects exist for a particular period(～27 days) and they are related to the solar activity phenomena. The cross-correlation coefficients and time lags between the CRI and solar activity parameters were estimated to be ～200, 46, 281, 39, and 47 days for SSN, SSA, F10.7, MCI, and FI respectively during the time series 2012–2015(maximum phase of solar cycle 24).
