Prolonged periods of drought triggered by climate change hamper plant growth and cause substantial agricultural yield losses every *** addition to drought,salinity is one of the major abiotic stresses that severely affect crop health and agricultural *** responses to drought and salinity involve multiple processes that operate in a spatiotemporal manner,such as stress sensing,perception,epigenetic modifications,transcription,post-transcriptional processing,translation,and post-translational ***,drought and salinity stress tolerance are polygenic traits influenced by genomeenvironment *** of the ideal solutions to these challenges is the development of highyielding crop varieties with enhanced stress tolerance,together with improved agricultural ***,genome-editing technologies,especially clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)tools,have been effectively applied to elucidate how plants deal with drought and saline *** this work,we aim to portray that the combined use of CRISPR-based genome engineering tools and modern genomic-assisted breeding approaches are gaining momentum in identifying genetic determinants of complex traits for crop *** review provides a synopsis of plant responses to drought and salinity stresses at the morphological,physiological,and molecular *** also highlight recent advances in CRISPR-based tools and their use in understanding the multi-level nature of plant adaptations to drought and salinity *** CRISPR tools with modern breeding approaches is ideal for identifying genetic factors that regulate plant stress-response pathways and for the introgression of beneficial traits to develop stress-resilient crops.

Identification of quantitative trait loci(QTLs)controlling yield and yield-related traits in rice was performed in the F_(2) mapping population derived from parental rice genotypes DHMAS and K343.A total of 30 QTLs governing nine different traits were identified using the composite interval mapping(CIM)*** QTLs were mapped for number of tillers per plant on chromosomes 1(2 QTLs),2 and 3;three QTLs for panicle number per plant on chromosomes 1(2 QTLs)and 3;four QTLs for plant height on chromosomes 2,4,5 and 6;one QTL for spikelet density on chromosome 5;four QTLs for spikelet fertility percentage(SFP)on chromosomes 2,3 and 5(2 QTLs);two QTLs for grain length on chromosomes 1 and 8;three QTLs for grain width on chromosomes1,3 and 8;three QTLs for 1000-grain weight(TGW)on chromosomes 1,4 and 8 and six QTLs for yield per plant(YPP)on chromosomes 2(3 QTLs),4,6 and *** of the QTLs were detected on chromosome 2,so further studies on chromosome 2 could help unlock some new chapters of QTL for this cross of rice *** QTLs elucidating high phenotypic variance can be used for marker-assisted selection(MAS)***,the exploitation of information regarding molecular markers tightly linked to QTLs governing these traits will facilitate future crop improvement strategies in rice.

Genetic Diversity of Marine and Fresh Water Cyanobacteria from the Gujarat State of India

Cyanobacteria from habitats within Gujarat have been poorly studied with regard to their diversity. In the present investigation eight morphologically distinct cyanobacterial isolates were obtained and characterized from the fresh water and marine habitats. Identification was performed based on morphological features and on 16S rDNA sequences analysis. A phylogenetic tree based on 16S rDNA sequence of cyanobacterial isolates was prepared. Phylogenetic analysis clustered the eight morphologically distinct isolates into two distinct groups thus highlighting the importance of both morphological and genetic methods in studying cyanobacterial diversity.

This paper describes the results obtained from two year experiment conducted at farmer’s field in Bulandshahr Delhi,India aimed at understanding the effect of different establishment methods on rice production during 2006 and 2007 using an aromatic rice variety,Pusa Sugandh *** this experiment,the treatment consisted four planting techniques and three irrigation treatments were *** four different establishment methods were transplanted rice on puddled(TPR),direct wet seeded(DWS),direct dry seeded on flat bed (DDS)and transplanting slope of ridges in a furrow- ridger configuration(FTP).In all establishment methods,the three irrigation regimes exposed were continuously submerged (W),irrigation after 1 day drainage(W),and irrigation after 3 days drainage(W). Averaged over irrigation regimes,among all the treatments,TPR had the highest grain yield followed by FTP,and DWS which were 4773,4379 and 4229 kg ha,*** lowest grain yield was obtained in DDS. The use of irrigation water input in non puddled treatment was significantly reduced. The total amount of water applied in DDS and FTP for similar irrigation treatment(W)was 1044 and 977 mm,*** to TPR,the reduction of total water input was 38 and 42%in DDS and FTP respectively,for similar irrigation treatment(W),and comparing to flooded direct wet seeded(DWS)it was 29 and 34%.Water productivity(WP)ranged from 0.60 to 0.86 g grain kgwater under W irrigation treatment which was highest in FTP. In terms of(WP),averaged across irrigation treatments,FTP also had the highest value (0.498 g grain kgwater)followed by DDS(0.421 g grain kgwater). Economical evaluation showed that the total cost of production of one hectare has been reduced by 13 percent in FTP compared to *** addition to those intangible benefits such as working condition has been improved *** of different rice establishment methods showed that cost/benefit ratio was highest in case of FTP due to relatively

A Context Sensitive Multilevel Thresholding Using Swarm Based Algorithms

In this paper, a comprehensive energy function is used to formulate the three most popular objective functions:Kapur's, Otsu and Tsalli's functions for performing effective multilevel color image thresholding. These new energy based objective criterions are further combined with the proficient search capability of swarm based algorithms to improve the efficiency and robustness. The proposed multilevel thresholding approach accurately determines the optimal threshold values by using generated energy curve, and acutely distinguishes different objects within the multi-channel complex images. The performance evaluation indices and experiments on different test images illustrate that Kapur's entropy aided with differential evolution and bacterial foraging optimization algorithm generates the most accurate and visually pleasing segmented images.

Evaluation of corrosion resistance, mechanical integrity loss and biocompatibility of PCL/HA/TiO_(2) hybrid coated biodegradable ZM21 Mg alloy

A novel PCL/HA/TiO_(2)hybrid coating on ZM21 Mg alloy substrate has been investigated for corrosion resistance, biocompatibility and mechanical integrity loss in terms of bending, compressive and tensile strength in physiological media. The prepared hybrid coating was dip coated over ZM21 from HA/TiO_(2)and PCL solutions followed by creating a microporous PCL layer by utilizing Non-solvent Induced Phase Separation(NIPS) technique. The electrochemical measurement and in-vitro degradation study in SBF after 28 days showed that the PCL/HA/TiO_(2) hybrid coating reduced H2 evolution rate, weight loss, and corrosion rate by 64, 116 and 118 times respectively, as compared to uncoated ZM21 samples. The surface studies carried out using SEM-EDX, FTIR and XRD revealed formation of highly stable 3d flower-like HA crystals with Ca/P ratio of 1.60 in the PCL micropores. This dense apatite growth effectively protected the PCL/HA/TiO_(2)hybrid coated samples to maintain the good mechanical integrity even after 28 days of immersion as compared to HA/TiO_(2)composite coated, As-polished(A/P) and As-machined(A/M) samples. The failure analysis of samples under mechanical loading were performed using *** in-vitro cellular viability of L929 fibroblast cells on PCL/HA/TiO_(2)hybrid coating was found 50.47% higher with respect to control group,whereas bacterial viability was supressed by 57.15 and 62.35% against gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and gram-negative Escherichia coli bacterial models. The comprehensive assessment indicates PCL/HA/TiO_(2)hybrid coating as a suitable candidate to delay early degradation and mechanical integrity loss of Mg-based alloys for devising biodegradable orthopaedic implant.

Synthesis and Characterization of CdO–SnO_2 Nanocomposites Prepared by Hydrothermal Method

In this work,（1-x）CdO-xSnO2 nanocomposites（≤0.15）have been synthesized via hydrothermal *** structural study reveals that CdO nanostructures possess crystalline phase and cubic *** CdO-SnO2 nanocomposites possess both cubic and orthorhombic structure with good *** crystallite size in the nanocomposites was found to be in the range of 9.6-19.6 *** emission scanning electronic microscopy and high-resolution tunnelling microscopy analysis confirm the presence of both cubic and orthorhombic structures which is also confirmed from X-ray diffraction *** transform infrared spectroscopy（FFIR）studies confirm that CdO-SnO2 nanocomposites possess the characteristics band of both CdO and SnO2 *** UV-visible absorption studies confirm that the optical absorption band in CdO-SnO2 nanocomposites possesses both blue and red shift as compared to that of CdO *** spectroscopy studies reveal the appearance of strong emission peak at 513,469 and 369 nm corresponding to green,blue and violet emission spectrum,respectively,in CdO-SnO2 *** FTIR studies confirm the presence of hydroxyl and water functional group due to atmospheric water vapours and chemical bonding in CdO and CdO-SnO2 *** spectroscopy confirms the presence of Raman bands of both CdO and SnO2 phases in the CdO-SnO2 nanocomposites.

Investigating TiO_(2)-HA-PCL hybrid coating as an efficient corrosion resistant barrier of ZM21 Mg alloy

Surface modification for improving corrosion resistance of Mg alloys is highly demanded for degradable orthopedic and cardiovascular *** research reports the design and development of TiO_(2)–HA composite and novel TiO_(2)–HA–PCL hybrid coating belonging to the unique class of inorganic organic hybrid with striking features that are explored for the first time in the corrosion resistance of Mg ***–gel dip coating combined with non-solvent induced phase separation is used to create the hybrid ***_(2)–HA–PCL hybrid coating introduces strong hydrogen bonding between TiO_(2)–HA inorganic matrix and PCL organic layer in addition to the Vander wall electrostatic interaction of the later with the Mg substrate which in turn enhance adhesion strength to about 1.5 times of TiO_(2)–HA *** corrosion potentials for TiO_(2)–HA–PCL and TiO_(2)–HA were found to be-0.407 V and-1.017 V(vs Ag/Ag Cl),*** current densities of TiO_(2)–HA–PCL and TiO_(2)–HA were found to be 7.31×10^(-8)A/cm^(2)and 4.03×10^(-4)A/cm^(2)*** corrosion resistance of coatings was confirmed by immersion testing by weight loss,pH changes and H_(2)evolution measurements at interval of 7 days till 28 *** present TiO_(2)–HA–PCL coating in comparison to TiO_(2)–HA coating demonstrate nearly 6%less weight *** outcome of the present work was compared with the similar coatings in recent *** work done ingresses enhancing the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys,which fulfill the dreams of future degradable orthopedic and cardiovascular devices.
