Exploring the impact of soil water variability and varietal diversity on alfalfa yield,nutritional quality,and farm profitability

Background:Despite high nutritional and economic value,alfalfa yield has not been improved in the United *** moisture critically influences alfalfa's yield and quality,affecting its physiological processes,nutrient uptake,and stand ***,the maturity stage at harvest can significantly impact both hay yield and ***,this study aimed to assess the effect of different soil moisture levels and harvesting times on forage yield,nutritive value,and the overall profitability of commercially cultivated ***:Two conventional and three lower-lignin alfalfa varieties were planted in a randomized complete block with split plot design under drought,rainfed,and irrigation conditions in 2020 in Manhattan,kansas,*** dry matter yield(DMY)and forage nutritive value were evaluated at late bud,early flowering,and 7 days after early flowering stages,***:DMY varied with production year,soil water availability,and growth stages,with drought conditions causing a decline in DMY of 5%to 38%in the second production *** conditions and maturity stages influenced crude protein(CP)and in vitro dry matter digestibility(IVDMD).Higher soil moisture and advancing maturity stages negatively impacted CP,IVDMD,and relative forage *** study revealed net profit margins of 62%,64%,and 52%for drought-prone,rainfed,and irrigated production,***:Harvest timing and irrigation practices were found to have substantial implications for forage yield and nutritive value of *** yield-quality trade-off differed under drought and irrigation,with early harvesting leading to lower yields but higher protein content and *** study findings provide potential guidance for improving alfalfa hay yield,quality,and profitability.

Oscillatory Shannon entropy in the process of equilibration of nonequilibrium crystalline systems

We present a study of the equilibration process of some nonequilibrium crystalline systems by means of molecular dynamics simulation technique. The nonequilibrium conditions are achieved in the systems by randomly defining velocity components of the constituent atoms. The calculated Shannon entropy from the probability distribution of the kinetic energy among the atoms at different instants during the process of equilibration shows oscillation as the system relaxes towards equilibrium. Fourier transformations of these oscillating Shannon entropies reveal the existence of Debye frequency of the concerned system.

The Receptor-Like Cytoplasmic kinase （OsRLCk） Gene Family in Rice： Organization, Phylogenetic Relationship, and Expression during Development and Stress

Receptor-like cytoplasmic kinases （RLCks） in plants belong to the super family of receptor-like kinases （RLks）. These proteins show homology to RLks in kinase domain but lack the transmembrane domain. Some of the functionally characterized RLCks from plants have been shown to play roles in development and stress responses. Previously, 149 and 187 RLCk encoding genes were identified from Arabidopsis and rice, respectively. By using HMM-based domain structure and phylogenetic relationships, we have identified 379 OsRLCks from rice. OsRLCks are distributed on all 12 chromosomes of rice and some members are located on duplicated chromosomal segments. Several OsRLCks probably also undergo alternative splicing, some having evidence only in the form of gene models. To understand their possible functions, expression patterns during landmark stages of vegetative and reproductive development as well as abiotic and biotic stress using microarray and MPSS-based data were analyzed. Real-time PCR-based expression profiling for a selected few genes confirmed the outcome of microarray analysis. Differential expression patterns observed for majority of OsRLCks during development and stress suggest their involvement in diverse functions in rice. Majority of the stress-responsive OsRLCks were also found to be localized within mapped regions of abiotic stress QTLs. Outcome of this study would help in selecting organ/development stage specific OsRLCk genes/targets for functional validation studies.

Ciprofloxacin degradation in photo-Fenton and photo-catalytic processes: Degradation mechanisms and iron chelation

Ciprofloxacin(CIP)is a broad spectrum synthetic antibiotic drug of fluoroquinolones *** can act as a bidentate ligand forming iron complexes during its degradation in the photoFenton process(PFP).This work investigates on PFP for the degradation of CIP to understand the formation mechanism and stability of iron complexes under ultraviolet(UV)-light illumination.A comparison was made with the UV-photocatalysis(UV/TiO_2)process where CIP doesn't form a *** PFP,the optimal dose of Fe^(2+)and H_2O_2were found to be 1.25 and10 mmol/L with pH of *** optimal TiO_2dose of 1.25 g/L was determined in the UV/TiO_*** CIP removal and mineralization efficiency of 93.1%and 47.3%were obtained in PFP against 69.7%and 27.6%in the UV/TiO_*** mass spectra could identify seventeen intermediate products including iron-CIP complexes in PFP,and only seven intermediate products were found in the UV/TiO_2process with a majority of common products in both the *** proposed mechanism supported by the mass spectra bridged the routes of CIP cleavage in the PFP and UV/TiO_2process,and the decomposition pathway of Fe^(3+)-CIP chelate complexes in PFP was also *** in PFP and UV/TiO_2processes,the target site of HO~·radical attack was the secondary-N atom present in the piperazine ring of the CIP *** death of Escherichia coli bacteria was 55.7%and 66.8%in comparison to the control media after 45 min of treatment in PFP and UV/TiO_2process,respectively.

Application of subfossil cladocerans(water fleas) in assessing ecological resilience of shallow Yangtze River floodplain lake systems(China)

Majority of shallow floodplain lake ecosystems of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River(China) have gone through serious eutrophication problems over the recent past. The severe environmental deterioration accompanied by cyanobacterial blooms have become major water resource management challenges in the region. An advanced research method is urgently needed to tackle these challenges. The concept of ecological resilience address pressing questions of non-linear dynamics, threshold effects and regime shifts in shallow floodplain lakes, and help manage the ecosystem effectively. Palaeolimnological techniques are important for assessing long term resilience and associated thresholds effects of shallow lake ecosystems. However, the lack of reliable proxy methods available, the assessment of long term ecological resilience of shallow Yangtze River lake systems has become increasingly difficult. Cladocerans(water fleas) play a central role in lacustrine food webs by responding to external drivers and internal ecosystem processes in lakes. Their subfossils are well preserved and becoming one of potential proxy indicators of lake ecosystems change for a longer time scale. This study explores the potential application of subfossil cladocerans and their ephippia in assessing a long term ecological resilience and help better management strategies of lake ecosystems and water resources of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China.

In this study,we derive the sharp bounds of certain Toeplitz determinants whose entries are the coefficients of holomorphic functions belonging to a class defined on the unit disk ***,these results are extended to a class of holomorphic functions on the unit ball in a complex Banach space and on the unit polydisc in C^(n).The obtained results provide the bounds of Toeplitz determinants in higher dimensions for various subclasses of normalized univalent functions.

This paper investigates the problem of controlling half-vehicle semi-active suspension system involving a magnetorheological(MR)*** features a hysteretic behavior that is presently captured through the nonlinear Bouc-Wen *** control objective is to regulate well the heave and the pitch motions of the chassis despite the road *** difficulty of the control problem lies in the nonlinearity of the system model,the uncertainty of some of its parameters,and the inaccessibility to measurements of the hysteresis internal state *** Lyapunov control design tools,we design two observers to get online estimates of the hysteresis internal states and a stabilizing adaptive state-feedback *** whole adaptive controller is formally shown to meet the desired control *** theoretical result is confirmed by several simulations demonstrating the supremacy of the latter compared to the skyhook control and passive suspension.
