本研究采用定量和定性的方法,用4周时间调查了室内园艺对低收入辅助生活设施的老年居民的影响。18名居民参加了4次互动式园艺课程,每次2小时。班级成员在掌控、自测健康和自测幸福感方面都有显著提高。这项研究的结果表明,做一项基础的园艺活动,简单养护一株室内植物并对其承担个人责任,可以对居住在辅助生活设施的老年人的生活质量和未来健康状况指标产生短期的枳极影响。

AIM: To fi nd correlates to spontaneous clearance of hepatitis c virus (HcV) infection, this study compared individuals with self-limited and chronic infection with regard to clinical, demographic, and serological pa-rameters. METHODS: Sixty-seven anti-HcV positive and repeatedly HcV RNA negative individuals were considered to have resolved HcV infection spontaneously. To determine the viral genotype these patients had been infected with HcV serotyping was performed. For comparison reasons, 62 consecutive patients with chronic hepatitis c were enrolled. cases and controls were compared stratifi ed for age and sex. RESULTS: Retrospective analysis showed (1) a lower humoral reactivity to HcV in patients with self-limited compared to chronic HcV-infection and (2) that younger age, history of iv drug use, and acute/post-acute hepatitis A or B co-infections, but not viral genotypes, are independent correlates for spontaneous HcV clearance. cONcLUSION: The stronger humoral reactivity to HcV in patients with persistent infections and in those with a history of iv drug use is supposed to be due to continuous or repeated contact(s) to the antigen. Metachronous hepatitis A or hepatitis B infections might favor HcV clearance.

The Role of Ozone carried by Liposomes in the Therapy of Infectious and Skin-Regenerating Ocular Surface

Effect of the ozonated oil in liposomes: they act against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is among the most frequent eye pathogens and causes acute and chronic infections of the ocular surface. Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were tested in this study. The bacterial suspension of Staphylococcus aureus was diluted to obtain 150 cFU/ml. The bacterial suspension of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was diluted to obtain 15 cFU/ml. Various volumes of liposome-vehiculated ozonated oil were added (400 μl, 200 μl, 100 μl and 50 μl) to 100 μl of bacterial suspension;both of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are incubated at 37?c for 10 minutes. The cytotoxicity of liposome-vehiculated ozonated oil was analysed at the University of campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”, Department of Precision Medicine. The HacaT epidermal keratinocyte cell line (ATcc, USA) was grown in Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium (Euroclone) with the addition of 10% foetal bovine serum (FBS) (Euroclone), 2 mM of L-glutamine (Euroclone) and antibiotics (100 U/ml penicillin, 100 g/ml streptomycin) (Euroclone). The microbiological results clearly show the antimicrobial efficacy of liposome-vehiculated ozonated oil against bacterial strains such as Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Furthermore, the studies carried out in vitro on the keratinocyte line showed how ozonated oil in liposomes does not evidence any cell toxicity, and that after 3 days of treatment, it promotes cell growth compared to the positive control.

BAcKGROUND Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become an epidemic largely due to the worldwide increase in obesity. While lifestyle modifications and pharmacotherapies have been used to alleviate NAFLD, successful treatment options are limited. One of the main barriers to finding safe and effective drugs for long-term use in NAFLD is the fast initiation and progression of disease in the available preclinical models. Therefore, we are in need of preclinical models that (1) mimic the human manifestation of NAFLD and (2) have a longer progression time to allow for the design of superior treatments. AIM To characterize a model of prolonged high-fat diet (HFD) feeding for investigation of the long-term progression of NAFLD. METHODS In this study, we utilized prolonged HFD feeding to examine NAFLD features in c57BL/6 male mice. We fed mice with a HFD (60% fat, 20% protein, and 20% carbohydrate) for 80 wk to promote obesity (Old-HFD group, n = 18). A low-fat diet (LFD)(14% fat, 32% protein, and 54% carbohydrate) was administered for the same duration to age-matched mice (Old-LFD group, n = 15). An additional group of mice was maintained on the LFD (Young-LFD, n = 20) for a shorter duration (6 wk) to distinguish between age-dependent and age-independent effects. Liver, colon, adipose tissue, and feces were collected for histological and molecular *** Prolonged HFD feeding led to obesity and insulin resistance. Histological analysis in the liver of HFD mice demonstrated steatosis, cell injury, portal and lobular inflammation and fibrosis. In addition, molecular analysis for markers of endoplasmic reticulum stress established that the liver tissue of HFD mice have increased phosphorylated Jnk and cHOP. Lastly, we evaluated the gut microbial composition of Old-LFD and Old-HFD. We observed that prolonged HFD feeding in mice increased the relative abundance of the Firmicutes phylum. Use of Panoramic Radiographs to Detect Signs of Osteoporosis in Edentulous

Objective: The objective is to analyze the importance of panoramic and carpal radiographs for evaluation of edentulous individuals in different ages, demonstrating the contribution of different dental radiographic techniques in detecting patients with signs of osteoporosis. Methods: The study was developed using panoramic and carpal digital radiographs of 30 edentulous women (age ranged 50 - 90 years). The panoramic radiographs were performed to measure the thickness of the mental index—MI and gonial index—GI, and evaluation of the morphology of the mandibular cortical shape (Klemetti classification). The carpal radiographs were performed to measure the cortical thickness of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th metacarpals (metacarpal index). Statistics analyzed the relationship of these indices with the patient’s age and the contribution of dental radiographs in detecting patients at risk for osteoporosis. Results: The average age of subjects was 68.43 years. In the analysis of cortical thickness of the panoramic radiographs, the mean values of mental index (MI) and gonial index (GI) for the age group 50 to 59 years were considered normal values (≥3.1 mm and ≥1.2 mm , respectively). To analyze the morphology of the cortex, the c3 group corresponded to the majority of cases (43.33%). The higher the age range, more morphological changes were observed (sum of the characteristics of groups c2 and c3). For the hand-wrist radiographs, the highest values of the metacarpal index (BMI) were found in the youngest age group (50 - 59 years). conclusions: There was positive correlation between age and indices of quantitative assessment (IM, IG, BMI) and qualitative (analysis Klemetti) on panoramic and carpal radiographs. Age is a risk factor for the onset of osteoporosis.

AIM:To explore the influence of polymorphisms in genes encoding for the chemokines Stromal cell-Derived Factor-1 (SDF-1)/cXcL12 and Monocyte chemotactic Protein-1 (McP-1)/ccL2 , or for the chemokine receptor ccR5 on the risks of liver-related death and hepatocellular carcinoma (Hcc) occurrence in hepatitis c virus (HcV)-infected patients. METHODS:SDF-1 3'A, McP-1 (-2518) and ccR5-32 polymorphisms, SDF-1α, Regulated upon Activation Normal T cells Expressed and Secreted (RANTES)/ccL5 and McP-1 serum levels were determined in 120 HcV-infected patients, included at time of cirrhosis diagnosis and prospectively followed-up. RESULTS:During follow-up, 23/120 (19.1%) patients died and 47/120 (39.1%) developed Hcc. carriers and noncarriers of each genetic marker had similar baseline characteristics estimating the severity of liver disease. The occurrence of death or Hcc during follow-up was similar among carriers and noncarriers of each polymorphism. There was no association between the carriage of mutated alleles and chemokine serum levels and the latter were not associated with the risks of death or Hcc. cONcLUSION:This study suggests the lack of association of SDF-1 3'A , McP-1 (-2518) , ccR5-32 polymorphisms with death and Hcc occurrence in cirrhotic HcV-infected patients.
