Avian influenza(AI)is one of the most relevant viruses in the poultry *** AI virus(AIV)transmission from birds to human causing severe cases and mortality enhanced the magnitude of AI for public ***,the AIV diagnosis laboratories should be able to detect and identify endemic,epidemic and seasonal influenza strains and other wildlife influenza subtypes that cross the country’s *** development in quality controls in according with international rules comes to improve the performance of *** this purpose,the Brazilian Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza(LANAGRO-SP)established a cooperation with the World Organization for Animal Health(OIE)to produce AIV master seeds,inactivated antigens and antiserum to attend the necessities of Brazil and other South America countries under the high quality control for all *** of AIV master seed lots and seventeen of inactivated antigens lots produced reached hemagglutination(HA)titers of 1:512 and 1:256,*** addition,fifteen AIV antiserum lots with hemagglutination inhibition(HI)titers reaching 1:4,096 were *** AIV reference reagents produced and applied in laboratory routine successfully.

AIM:To evaluate the long-term clinical and oncological outcomes of laparoscopic rectal resection(LRR) and the impact of conversion in patients with rectal ***:An analysis was performed on a prospective database of 633 consecutive patients with rectal cancer who underwent surgical *** were compared in three groups:Open surgery(OP),laparoscopic surgery,and converted laparoscopic ***-term outcomes,long-term outcomes,and survival analysis were ***:Among 633 patients studied,200 patients had successful laparoscopic resections with a conversion rate of 11.1%(25 out of 225).Factors predictive of survival on univariate analysis include the laparoscopic approach(P = 0.016),together with factors such as age,ASA status,stage of disease,tumor grade,presence of perineural invasion and vascular emboli,circumferential resection margin copic surgery was no longer significant on multivariateanalysis(P = 0.148).Neither 5-year overall survival(70.5% vs 61.8%,P = 0.217) nor 5-year cancer free survival(64.3% vs 66.6%,P = 0.854) were significantly different between the laparoscopic group and the converted ***:LRR has equivalent long-term oncologic out c ome s w he n c ompare d t o *** c opic conversion does not confer a worse prognosis.

Agreement between IOLMaster 500 and Pentacam HR for keratometry assessment in type 2 diabetic and nondiabetic patients

AIM:To evaluate inter-device agreement of anterior keratometry obtained by the IOLMaster 500 and Pentacam HR in type 2 diabetic and non-diabetic ***:corneal measurements were sequentially performed in 60 diabetes mellitus(DM)and 48 age and sex-matched controls undergoing cataract *** recorded included flat and steep keratometry,mean keratometry(Km),astigmatism magnitude,axis location,JO and J45 ***-Altman plots and intraclass correlation coefficients were used for examination of *** analyses were performed for astigmatism magnitude,diabetes duration,hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)levels and diabetic retinopathy(DR)***:Agreement for Km and astigmatism magnitude were considered good and moderate,with 95%limits of agreement(LoA)of-1.09 to 1.23 diopters(D)and-0.83 to 0.86 D in DM group,respectively;and-0.59 to 0.72 D and-0.98 to 0.75 D in non-DM group,*** contrast,the 95%LoA for corneal axis exceeded the clinically relevant margins in both *** the total sample,only 41 eyes(38%)had a smaller than 5-degree *** duration,HbA1c levels and DR stage were not found to significantly affect *** regression showed that higher corneal power(P=0.021)and astigmatism magnitude(P=0.011)were associated with a decreased risk of having a difference in axis location greater than ***:In both groups,IOLMaster and Pentacam agree well for corneal power and moderately for ***,axis location disagreement is frequent in eyes with flatter corneas and small amounts of astigmatism.

Relationship of MTHFR gene polymorphisms with renal and cardiac disease

AIM: To investigate the effects of different methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(MTHFR) 677c>T gene polymorphism and hyperhomocysteinemia for the development of renal failure and cardiovascular events, which are ***: We challenged the relationship, if any, of MTHFR 677c>T and MTHFR 1298A>c polymorphisms with renal and heart function. The present article is a reappraisal of these concepts, investigating within a larger population, and including a subgroup of dialysis patients, if the two most common MTHFR polymorphisms, c677 T and A1298 c, as homozygous, heterozygous or with a compound heterozygous state, show different association with chronic renal failure requiring hemodialysis. MTHFR polymorphism could be a favorable evolutionary factor, i.e., a protective factor for many ominous conditions, like cancer and renal failure. A similar finding was reported in fatty liver disease in which it is suggested that MTHFR polymorphisms could have maintained and maintain their persistence by an heterozygosis advantage mechanism. We studied a total of 630 Italian caucasian subject aged 54.60 ± 16.35 years, addressing to the increased hazard of hemodialysis, if any, according to the studied MTHFR genetic polymorphisms. RESULTS: A favorable association with normal renal function of MTHFR polymorphisms, and notably of MTHFR c677 T is present independently of the negative effects of left ventricular hypertrophy, increased IntraRenal arterial Resistance and hyperparathyroidism. cONcLUSION: MTHFR gene polymorphisms could have a protective role on renal function as suggested by their lower frequency among our dialysis patients in end-stage renal failure; differently, the association with left ventricular hypertrophy and reduced left ventricular relaxation suggest some type of indirect, or concurrent mechanism.

A Synonymous Polymorphism of APcDD1 Affects Translation Efficacy and is Associated with Androgenic Alopecia

The APcDD1 (adenomatosis polyposis coli down-regulated 1) gene is an inhibitor of the Wnt signaling pathway, and a rare mutation of this gene has been associated with hereditary hypotrichosis simplex. In this study, the authors aimed to investigate whether common APcDD1 gene polymorphisms contribute to the development of androgenic alopecia. Patients (n = 210) with androgenic alopecia and 98 controls were investigated. SNPs (Single nucleotide polymorphisms) in the coding region of the gene were sequenced. A significant difference in genotype distribution was found for the c.1781c/T, p. L476L SNP (rs3185480) of the APcDD1 gene. This SNP is located in exon 5 and is associated with a 3.5- and a 2.8-fold increase in risk for the development of androgenic alopecia for homozygote (cI 0.933-13.125; nominal regression P = 0.063) and heterozygote (cI 1.086-7.217; nominal regression P = 0.033) carriers, respectively. These data suggest that the rs3185480 polymorphism contributes to the development of androgenic alopecia. Protein expression experiments revealed that the polymorphism is associated with reduced APcDD1 protein abundance. This reduction is likely due to altered codon usage for leucine from a preferred codon (cTc) to a rare codon (cTT), which might influence translation efficiency and, thus, APcDD1 protein level.

摘要在阿尔茨海默病(AD)中,在β-淀粉样蛋白斑块周围发现了反应性星形胶质细胞和营养不良的神经突(异常的突触前元件)。笔者的前期研究已经表明,反应性星形胶质细胞会包裹、吞噬和降解APP小鼠以及AD患者海马中营养不良的突触,但仅波及不到7%的营养不良神经突,这表明星形胶质细胞在AD中的吞噬能力降低。本研究旨在通过分析原代星形胶质细胞培养物对分离突触(突触神经小体,SNs)吞噬和降解的能力来深入了解其潜在机制。SNs分别来自APP(包含营养不良性突触和β淀粉样肽)小鼠、Tau(包含AT8-和AT100-阳性磷酸化Tau)小鼠以及WT(对照)小鼠。我们发现与SNs-WT相比,星形胶质细胞的吞噬和降解能力在SNs-APP大大降低,但在AT8/AT100阳性的SNs-Tau却没有。在12月大的APP小鼠的海马中证实了星形胶质细胞吞噬能力的降低,因为只有(1.60±3.81)%的斑块状星形胶质细胞具有吞噬结构。

[背景]将交通源空气污染作为幼儿期呼吸道感染的危险因素的研究很少。[目的]在10个欧洲出生队列——BAMSE（瑞典）、GASPⅡ（意大利）、GINIplus和LISAplus（德国）、MAAS（英国）、PIAMA（荷兰）和4个INMA队列（西班牙）——中研究空气污染与肺炎、哮喘及中耳炎之间的相关性，并使用meta分析得出综合效应估值。[方法]评价家长报告的医师诊断的儿童早期肺炎、中耳炎以及哮喘与全年平均污染物水平[二氧化氮（NO2）、氮氧化物（NOx）、≤2．5gm的颗粒物（PM2.5）、PM2.5吸光度、PM10、PM2.5-10（粗PM）]间的关联，污染物浓度的估计采用土地利用回归模型并根据孩子的出生住址分配。作为EScAPE项目的一部分，每个研究区域都采用相同的方案建立回归模型。用logistic回归来计算每个研究校正后的效应估值，用随机效应meta分析来计算合并的估计值。[结果]除了PM2.5外的所有污染物，肺炎的合并校正优势比（OR）均升高（例如，N02每增加10μg／m3，OR=1．30，95％cI：1．02～1．65；PM10每增加10μg／m3的OR=1．76，95％cI：1．00—3．09）。对于中耳炎和哮喘，除了NO2与中耳炎问的关联（每10μg／m3对应的OR=1．09，95％cI：1．02～1．16），所有分析的结果均无显著性。[结论]对EScAPE项目中10个欧洲出生队列进行的meta分析为空气污染和儿童早期肺炎之间的相关性找到一致性的证据，也为与中耳炎间的相关性找到了一些证据。
