Background:Due to absence of large,prospective,randomized,clinical trial data,the potential survivalbenefit of lymphadenectomy with different number of regional lymph nodes(LNs)remains *** aim to create a predicting model to help estimate individualized potential survival benefit oflymphadenectomy with more regional LNs for patients with resected gallbladder cancer(GBC).Methods:Patients with resected GBC were selected from the surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Resultsdatabase who were diagnosed between 2004 and *** included age,race,sex,grade,histologicalstage,tumor sizes and receipt of non-primary *** types of multivariate survival regression modelswere constructed and *** best model performance was tested by the external validation data fromour ***:A total of 1,669 patients met the inclusion criteria for this *** lognormal survival modelshowed the best performance and was tested by the external validation data,including 193 patients withresected GBC from our ***,which based on the accelerated failure time parametricsurvival model,were built to estimate individualized survival.C-index,was up to 0.754 and 0.710 in internalvalidation for more and less regional LNs removed,*** of internal and external calibrationcurves showed good agreement between predicted and observed outcomes in the 1-,3-,and 5-year overallsurvival(Os).Conclusions:A predicting model can be used as a decision model to predict which patients may obtainbenefit from lymphadenectomy with more regional LNs.

Background： This study evaluated the impact of hormonal modulation at the onset of proestrus on ovarian response and uterine gene expression of beef ***： A total of 172 anestrous beef cows were assigned to one of four groups according to the treatment with estradiol cypionate（ECP） and/or equine chorionic gonadotropin（eCG） [CON（n = 43）, ECP（n = 43）, eCG（n = 44）and ECP ＋ eCG（n = 42）].Results： ECP-treated cows（ECP and ECP ＋ eCG groups） presented greater occurrence of estrus（44.6% vs. 65.4%; P = 0.01） and pregnancy per AI [47.1% vs. 33.3%; P = 0.07], but similar progesterone（P4） concentration at subsequent diestrus than cows not treated with ECP（CON and eCG groups）. Nonetheless, eCG-treated cows（eCG and ECP ＋ eCG groups） presented larger follicle at timed AI（12.6 ± 0.3 vs. 13.5 ± 0.3 mm; P = 0.03）, greater ovulation rate（96.5%vs. 82.6%; P = 0.008） and greater P4 concentration at d 6（3.9 ± 0.2 vs. 4.8 ± 0.2 ng/mL; P = 0.001） than cows not treated with eCG（CON and ECP groups）. Next, cows with a new corpus luteum 6 d after TAI were submitted to uterine biopsy procedure. Uterine fragments [CON（n = 6）, ECP（n = 6）] were analyzed by RNA-seq and a total of 135 transcripts were differentially expressed between groups（73 genes up-regulated by ECP treatment）. subsequently,uterine samples were analyzed by q PCR（genes associated with cell proliferation）. ECP treatment induced greater abundance of PTCH2（P = 0.07） and COL4 A1（P = 0.02）, whereas suppressed EGFR（P = 0.09） expression. Conversely, eCG treatment increased abundance of HB-EGF（P = 0.06）, EsR2（P = 0.09）, and ITGB3（P = 0.05）, whereas it reduced transcription of EsR1（P = 0.05）. Collectively, supplementation with ECP or eCG at the onset of proestrous of anestrous beef cows influenced ovarian responses, global and specific endometrial gene ***： Proestrus estradiol regulate the endometrial transcriptome, particularly stimulating proliferative activity in the endometrium.

Like mother, like daughter： heritability of female Richardson＇s ground squirrel Urocitellus richardsonii cortisol stress responses

Activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal （HPA） axis liberates glucocorticoids, which provides an acute indication of an individual＇s response to stressors. The heritability of the stress response in wild mammals, however, remains poorly documented. We quantified the cortisol stress response of female Richardson＇s ground squirrels （RGss） to handling and physical restraint, testing for：（1） the effects of individual age, time of day, and sample latency; （2） repeatability within individuals; （3） narrow-sense heritability; and （4） differences among individuals owing to potential genetic and/or environmental effects. We detected a positive linear relationship between baseline plasma cortisol （BL-cortisol） concentration and stress-induced plasma cortisol （sl-cortisol） concentration that defined each individual＇s cortisol stress response. BL-cortisol, sI-cortisol, and stress response did not differ according to the time the sample was taken, or by subject age. Cortisol stress response was highly repeatable within individuals, had a mother-offspring heritability of h2 =0.40 ± 0.24 （mean ±sE）, full-sibling heritability of h2s = 0.37 ± 0.71, and half-sibling heritabil- ity of hHs^2 = 0.75 ± 1.41. stress responses of sibling groups, immediate-family groups, and squir- rels within a given area did not differ, whereas those of individuals from more distantly related matrilines did. Our results highlight the natural variability in HPA axis reactivity among individuals by quantifying both BL- and sI-cortisol levels, demonstrate partial heritability of the stress response that is not attributable to environmental variation, and suggest that at least part of an indi- vidual＇s stress response can be accounted for by differences in matrilineal history.

silicon Nanocrystals on the surface of standard si Wafers: A Micro-Raman Investigation

The presence of silicon nanocrystals on the surface of standard wafer samples of si, conserved under “usual” laboratory conditions, has been investigated by micro-Raman analysis, performed for increasing intensity of laser irradiation. The poor thermal connection of such small crystals to the si wafer bulk allows for the appearance of two well distinct Raman bands in the spectra, with a different evolution for increasing irradiance levels: the first, expected, due to bulk silicon response, the other one assignable to the silicon nanocrystals. A careful analysis of peak position and linewidth has been carried out, both for the Raman contribution from the nanocrystals, reaching high temperatures under irradiation (up to 1400 K), and for the one from the “bulk” si, which remains practically at room temperature. The analysis of the spectra and the comparison with previous studies on nc-si suggest that such nanocrystals do not have a very small size, so that the observed changes of spectral parameters are mainly due to laser heating, rather than quantum confinement effects. In any case, we performed also an independent size deter-mination by AFM mapping, confirming a size distribution well peaked be-tween 50 and 100 nm. As a corollary from this analysis, we get the indication that apparent linewidths and positions, at low laser irradiation levels, can be slightly changed in the presence of nc-si on the surface. It is due to the differ-ent thermal responses of bulk and nanocrystalline components, inducing un-resolved separate components;this hypothesis suggests reanalysing some previous experimental data, in particular for many Raman spectra of si col-lected at “room temperature”.

Development and Validation of Two Methods to Quantify Volatile Acids (C2-C6) by GC/FID: Headspace (Automatic and Manual) and Liquid-Liquid Extraction (LLE)

The concentration of the volatile fatty acids (VFA) is an important indicator of the status of an-aerobic processes, but most of the existing methods require sample pretreatment and are labor-intensive. It was developed and validated a rapid Gas Chromatographic (GC) method to quantify seven VFA (acetic, propionic, isobutyric, butyric, isovaleric, valeric and caproic), acetone, methanol, ethanol and n-butanol by headspace (automatic and manual) and liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) with diethyl ether (only VFA). The determination was made in a shimadzu Gas Chromatograph equipped with a Flame Ionization Detector (GC/FID), a headspace auto-sampler and an HP-INNOWAX column. Isobutanol and crotonic acid were utilized as internal standards (Is). The validation parameters evaluated were: precision (coefficient of variation—C.V.% for the retention times, from 0.02 to 0.87), linearity (R2 = 0.9291 - 0.9997), limits of detection (from 3.97 to 36.45 mg·L﹣1) and instrumental precision (from 0.01 to 0.53), which provide evidence that the methods are adequate to determine these analytes in samples from anaerobic reactors and from the environment.

Hepatitis B vaccine by intradermal route in non responder patients:An update

Vaccination is the main prophylactic measure to reduce the mortality caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in healthy subjects since the immune response to hepatitis B recombinant vaccination occurs in over 90% of general population. Individuals who develop an anti-HBs titer less than 10 mIU/mL after primary vaccination cycle are defined “no responders”. Many factors could cause a non response to the HBV vaccination, such as administration of the vaccine in buttocks, impaired vaccine storage conditions, drug abuse, smoking, infections and obesity. Moreover there are some diseases, like chronic kidney disease, human immunodeficiency virus infection, chronic liver disease, celiac disease, thalassaemia, type I diabetes mellitus, down’s syndrome and other forms of mental retardation that are characterized by a poorer response to HBV vaccination than healthy subjects. To date it is still unclear how to treat this group of patients at high risk of hepatitis B infection. Recent studies seem to indicate that the administration of HBV recombinant vaccine by the intradermal route is very effective and could represent a more useful strategy than intramuscular route. This review focuses on the use of anti hepatitis B vaccine by intradermal route as alternative to conventional intramuscular vaccine in all non responder patients. A comprehensive review of the literature using PubMed database, with appropriate terms, was undertaken for articles in English published since 1983. The literature search was undertaken in september 2013.

Feeding dysfunction is a frequent presenting symptom of eosinophilic esophagitis(EoE). Here we present 3 children of various ages whose manifestations of EoE associated feeding dysfunction led to significant and life altering impact on their growth and development. Early identification of presenting symptoms of EoE will allow for prompt diagnosis and initiation of appropriate treatments. Recognition of salient features of dysfunction and treatment by feeding therapists and nutritionists led to symptom resolution and growth.

strategies, Performances and Profiling of a sample of U.s. Universities in 2012

The global economic crisis is affecting performances of not-for-profits. At the same time donors are targeted by a pressing good-cause related marketing, so that the competition for philanthropy is particularly keen. U.s. universities can be public, not-for-profit and for-profit. U.s. not-for-profit universities are confronted with different marketing, fundraising and revenue diversification. Above all, marketing concerns customers and their segmentation and their purchasing-power exploitation;fundraising aims to gain the trustworthiness of donors, instead. The aim of this paper is the analysis of the revenue diversification of a sample of 100 U.s. not-for-profit universities according to IRs (Internal Revenue service) Forms. These 100 U.s. universities had the highest 2012’s revenues for the Guidestar ranking (***). The cluster analysis gives evidence that the highest gain and the highest solvency are both connected with the implementation of revenue diversification for one profile. The most crowded cluster is the Marketing Expert with the second highest gain.

In the last decades, especially since the 1990s, there was a gradual rising of educational levels, due to a growing schooling. This paper aims to analyze the propensity toward university enrolment in the Messina area, by means of appropriate statistical methods. In particular, we compared the students of different secondary school institutes in Messina, with reference to the choice of the future university career and other information about the scholastic profit and the scholastic context. Our comparative analysis has been performed through a non-parametric approach, using the Non Parametric Combination （NPC） test based on permutation test. This methodology was chosen for optimal characteristics of which it is characterized.
