Lycopene is a naturally occurring red carotenoid compound that is found in *** has antioxidant *** content,sugar content and hollowheart resistance are subject to significant genotype×environment interaction(G×E),which makes breeding for these fruit quality traits *** objectives of this study were to(i)evaluate the influence of years and locations on lycopene content,sugar content and hollowheart resistance for a set of watermelon genotypes,and(ii)identify genotypes with high stability for lycopene,sugar,and hollowheart resistance.A diverse set of 40 genotypes was tested over 3 years and 8 locations across the southern United States in replicated,multi-harvest *** was tested in a subset of 10 *** were analyzed using univariate and multivariate stability statistics(BLUP-GGE biplot)using SASGxE and rGxE *** were strong effects of environment as well as G×E interaction on watermelon quality *** the basis of stability measures,genotypes were classified as stable or unstable for each quality trait.'Crimson Sweet'is an inbred line with high quality trait performance as well as trait stability.'Stone Mountain','Tom Watson','Crimson Sweet'and'Minilee'were among the best genotypes for lycopene content,sugar content and hollowheart *** developed a stability chart based on marketable yield and average ranking generated from different stability measures for yield attributes and quality *** chart will assist in choosing parents for improvement of watermelon *** http://***/cucurbit/wmelon/***.

recent world events have emphasized the need to develop innovative, functional materials that will safely neutralize chemical warfare （CW） agents in situ to protect military personnel and civilians from dermal exposure. Here, we demonstrate the efficacy of a novel, proof-of-concept design for a Cu-containing catalyst, chemically bonded to a single-wall carbon nanotube （SWCNT） structural support, to effectively degrade an organophosphate simulant. SWCNTs have high tensile strength and are flexible and light-weight, which make them a desirable structural component for unique, fabric-like materials. This study aims to develop a self-decontaminating, carbon nanotube-derived material that can ultimately be incorporated into a wearable fabric or protective material to minimize dermal exposure to organophosphate nerve agents and to prevent accidental exposure during decontamination procedures. Carboxylated SWCNTs were functionalized with a polymer, which contained Cu-chelating bipyridine groups, and their catalytic activity against an organophosphate simulant was measured over time. The catalytically active, functionalized nanomaterial was characterized using X-ray fluorescence and raman spectroscopy. Assuming zeroth-order reaction kinetics, the hydrolysis rate of the organophosphate simulant, as monitored by UV-vis absorption in the presence of the catalytically active nanomaterial, was 63 times faster than the uncatalyzed hydrolysis rate for a sample containing only carboxylated SWCNTs or a control sample containing no added nanotube materials.

Introduction:Tidal marsh systems along the Pacific coast of the United States have experienced substantial stress and loss of area and ecosystem function,which we examined by using the endangered California ridgway’s rail,rallus obsoletus obsoletus(‘rail’)as an indicator of its tidal marsh habitat in the San Francisco *** organized a collection of historical(1885-1940)and modern(2005-2014)rail feathers and analyzed the feather isotope means for delta carbon(δ^(13)C),sulfur(δ^(34)S),and nitrogen(δ^(15)N)by region and time ***:Feather isotopes represented the primary foraging habitat during historical then modern time *** individual nor regional rail feather isotopes suggested freshwater or terrestrial foraging by the *** regions with both historic and modern feather isotopes revealed non-uniform spatial shifts in isotope levels consistent with a marine based food web and significantδ^(15)N ***:Our results supported the rail’s status as a generalist forager and obligate tidal marsh species throughout the historic *** variable isoscape trends generated from feather isotope means illustrated a modern loss of the isotopic homogeneity between regions of historical tidal marsh,which correlated with spatially-explicit habitat alterations such as increasing biological invasions and sewage effluent over ***:These findings have reinforced the importance of tidal marsh conservation in the face of ongoing underlying changes to these important ecosystems.

Diabetes is a leading chronic disease of childhood and adolescence. In addition to the well-known auto-immune, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus （type 1 diabetes （T 1D））, the past two decades have witnessed the emergence of type 2 diabetes （T2D） in children and adolescents, which previously was only seen in middle-aged or older adults. One of the key components of diabetes management is physical activity （PA）. The beneficial effects of increased PA and decreased sedentary behavior are extremely important in youth with diabetes because of the markedly increased long-term risk of cardiovascular disease in this population compared to persons without diabetes. This review aims to comprehensively summarize the epidemiologic, observational research published and listed in PubMed between 1970 and 2012 on PA and sedentary behaviors, as well as physical fitness in children and adolescents with T1D and T2D. Additionally, we describe briefly the state of knowledge on perceived barriers of PA in persons with diabetes, with a focus on hypoglycemia. Finally, we provide an overview of the epidemiological literature pertaining to health benefits of increased PA in youth with TID and T2D and briefly discuss the topic of exercise-related hypoglycemia, Copyright ~ 2012, Shanghai University of Sport. 目的与意义:西瓜是世界上主要的蔬菜作物,更是中国瓜农增收的高效园艺作物.拓宽西瓜遗传基础,发掘优异种质,提高西瓜品种改良效率是目前全球西瓜育种面临的首要任务,核心种质构建为发掘与利用优异种质提供了一条有效途径.而已有西瓜种质资源的研究多局限于形态特征及农艺性状的鉴定与描述,巨大的工作量使我们无法同时对上千份种质资源进行各种抗病性的细致鉴定,更缺乏对其遗传多样性及不同资源群间异同点的系统认识.目前,西瓜全基因组测序与重测序工作已经全面开展,有必要基于西瓜全基因组序列,准确分析不同西瓜不同种之间的遗传关系,尽快构建含有野生种、地方品种和主要改良种的核心种质,使最少量的样品代表最丰富的遗传变异,为品种改良提供材料与技术指导.
