Application of 3A Zeolite Prepared from Venezuelan Kaolin for Removal of Pb (II) from Wastewater and Its Determination by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry

This work consists in the use of a 3A zeolite (K-LTA) obtained by a process of exchange of sodium for potassium (4A zeolite), synthesized from Venezuelan kaolin for the removal of Pb (II) ions from aqueous solutions by batch process mode in order to consider its application in treating industrial wastewaters. The 3A zeolite was characterized for X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (SEm-EDX). The metal concentration in the equilibrium Ce (mg·L-1) after adsorption with 3A zeolite was analyzed using flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). The influences of the solution pH, contact time, metal initial concentration and adsorbent dosage have been studied. The retention of metal occurring at pH values around 6.5 and the adsorption equilibrium was obtained at 60 min. The equilibrium process was well described by Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm models. The Langmuir parameters qm (mg·g-1) and b (L·mg-1) (which are related to the sorption capacity and constant of sorption energy) obtained were 14.64 and 5.42 respectively. The Pb (II) experimental uptake was about 14.56 mg·g-1, a little smaller than the theoretical one given by Langmuir isotherm model. The regression parameters and correlation coefficients (R) indicate that the adsorption data for Pb (II) removal fit better the Langmuir isotherm model. moreover, 0 1/n 1 (1/n is 0.13), indicating that adsorption of metal ions on the zeolite, is a favorable physical process. The application of removing of the metal lead from real samples was examined by industrial wastewater samples. For all samples, the percentage of recovery was found with accuracy of more than 98%. The present work suggests 3A zeolite used as a sorbent material with relatively low cost, obtained from Venezuelan raw material;it is a candidate for removal lead ion and probably other cationic heavy metal species

Hyperlipidemia plays an important role in the development of atherosclerosis, the main cause of death in the world. In this study, the lipid-lowering effect of Carica papaya leaf in rats fed with a high cholesterol diet was evaluated. Daily doses of C. papaya extract 0, 31, 62 or 125 mg/kg body weight were orally administered in 300 μl polyethylene glycol to hypercholesterolemic rats;it was also administered 62 mg/kg body weight of the extract to rats with normal diet. After a 20-day treatment, the animals were sacrificed;blood and liver were analyzed. Hypercholesterolemic rats showed an increased serum and liver cholesterol, triacylglycerols, and atherogenic index. The C. papaya extract produced a significant decrease of serum and liver cholesterol concentrations in hypercholesterolemic rats, but did not modify serum or liver triacylglycerols;however, the extract reduced the atherogenic index in a dose-dependent manner. C. papaya treatment decreased LDL-C and increased HDL-C in serum significantly. When the oxygen consumption was evaluated in phosphorylating and resting states, the respiratory control in hypercholesterolemic rats mitochondria was lower than in normal diet rats. However, a higher respiratory control in hypercholesterolemic rats mitochondria was observed after C papaya treatment. The liver morphological data are in accordance with serum and liver biochemical values. Our data support that C. papaya has a significant hypocholesterolemic action and HDL-C raising effect on rats fed with a cholesterol-rich diet, however, the precise metabolites responsible of this effect remain unknown.

DNA copy number variations(CNVs) play an important role in the pathogenesis and progression of cancer and confer susceptibility to a variety of human *** this study, we developed an algorithm to detect CNVs from whole-genome sequencing data and applied it to a newly sequenced glioblastoma genome with a matched *** read-depth algorithm,called BIC-seq,can accurately and efficiently identify CNVs via minimizing the Bayesian information criterion(BIC).Using BIC-seq,we identified hundreds of CNVs as small as 40 bp in the cancer genome sequenced at 10X coverage,while we could only detect large CNVs(>15 Kb) in the array CGH profiles for the same *** percent(14/16) of the small variants tested(110 bp to 14 Kb) were experimentally validated by quantitative PCR,demonstrating high sensitivity and true positive rate of the *** also extended the algorithm to detect recurrent CNVs in multiple samples as well as deriving error bars for breakpoints using a Gibbs sampling approach.

目的临床收集一例小头畸形、中后脑发育异常和智力低下的近亲家系。拟从遗传分析和功能实验两个角度鉴定相关基因突变并阐释其作用机制。方法遗传分析采用高密度SNP基因分型芯片。使用高通量测序在连锁区间搜索有害突变。测定可能致病基因在患者和正常亲属中m RNA和蛋白表达强度。构建sh RNA质粒注射胎鼠脑室下调基因表达,观察室管膜下区到皮层的神经元前体细胞的增殖和迁移。结果遗传分析给出连锁区间,用高通量测序加生物信息学分析鉴定出一个截断型突变,位于Rho鸟苷酸交换因子家族成员ARHGEF2基因。在患者和正常亲属的外周血中,携带纯合型突变的患者m RNA和蛋白表达均降至很低水平,携带杂合型突变的正常亲属则降至携带野生型基因亲属的一半。往胎鼠脑室注射sh RNA下调ARHGEF2基因表达,神经元前体细胞增殖和迁移受阻,过表达野生型ARHGEF2能拯救表型,过表达突变型ARHGEF2则无效。结论 ARHGEF2控制Rho三磷酸鸟苷酸酶活性,影响有丝分裂,尚未有致病报道。未来工作将构建小鼠Arhgef2突变模型,观察运动认知变化和脑结构异常,检测细胞周期标记分子活性,检测RNA表达谱和DNA甲基化谱,从而构建相关分子调控网络。
