Waste generation from food manufacturing facilities poses a serious hazard like environmental degradation, water pollution, and land pollution due to its high nutrient composition. Specifically, solid waste(powder) disposal requires additional energy sources in terms of scientific treatment, structured collection, and disposal packaging according to the safety regulation. Thus, this research discusses the viewpoint of integrating food processing waste as an organic carbon source with BG-11 medium for Chlorella vulgaris(FSP-e) growth. The food processing waste powders investigated in this study were obtained from milk, and biscuit manufacturing facilities. The culture medium was modified by combining both BG-11 and food processing waste powders to identify the optimal algal growth and biochemical *** to the microalgae grown in BG-11 alone(IBG), the combination of biscuit waste and IBG produced higher biomass concentration(44%), with increased lipid(11%), protein(20%), and carbohydrate(57%) contents. Chlorella vulgaris was able to uptake nutrients from the culture medium with combination of food processing waste and IBG thus enhancing its growth. The results obtained also indicate that an integrated culture system using food processing waste and synthetic sources can generate energy out of waste by improving the bio-composition of the microalgae biomass.

The surface chemistry of colloidal cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr3) nanocrystals is decisive in determining the stability and the final morphology of this class of materials,characterized by ionic structure and a high defect tolerance ***,the high sensitivity of purified colloidal nanocubes of CsPbBr3 to diverse environmental condition (solvent dilution,ageing,ligands post synthetic treatment) in ambient atmosphere is investigated by means of a comprehensive morphological (electron microscopy),structural (θ/2θ X-ray diffraction (XRD) and grazing incidence wide angle scattering (GIWAXS)),and spectroscopic chemical (1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR),nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy (NOeSY),absorption and emission spectroscopy) *** aging and solvent dilution contribute to modify the nanocrystal morphology,due to a modification of the ligand ***,we establish the ability of aliphatic carboxylic acids and aikyl amines ligands to induce,even in a post preparative process at room temperature,structural,morphological and spectroscopic *** post synthesis alkyl amine addition,in particular of oleyl amine and octyl amine,the highly green emitting CsPbBr3 nanocubes effectively tum into one-dimensional (1 D) thin tetragonal nanowires or lead halide deficient rhombohedral zero-dimensional (0D) Cs4PbBr6 structures with a complete loss of *** addition of an alkyl carboxylic acid,as oleic and nonanoic acid,produces the transformation of nanocubes into still emitting orthorombic two-dimensional (2D) *** acid/base equilibrium between the native and added ligands,the edsorbed/free ligands dynamic in solution and the ligand solubility in non-polar solvent contribute to render CsPbBr3 particularly sensitive to environmental and processing conditions and,therefore prone to undergo to structural,morphological and,hence spectroscopic,transformations.

Assessment of the SARS-CoV-2 basic reproduction number,R0,based on the early phase of COVID-19 outbreak in Italy

As of March 12th Italy has the largest number of SARS-CoV-2 cases in europe as well as outside *** infections,first limited in Northern Italy,have eventually spread to all other *** controlling an emerging outbreak of an infectious disease it is essential to know the key epidemiological parameters,such as the basic reproduction number R0,*** average number of secondary infections caused by one infected individual during his/her entire infectious period at the start of an *** work has been limited to the assessment of R0 analyzing data from the Wuhan region or China's *** the present study the R0 value for SARS-CoV-2 was assessed analyzing data derived from the early phase of the outbreak in *** particular,the spread of SARS-CoV-2 was analyzed in 9 cities(those with the largest number of infections)fitting the well-established SIR-model to available data in the interval between February 25–March 12,*** findings of this study suggest that R0 values associated with the Italian outbreak may range from 2.43 to 3.10,confirming previous evidence in the literature reporting similar R0 values for SARS-CoV-2.

The effect of the Operational Parameters on the Draft Requirement of Ripping in a Sandy Clay Soil

This study set out to investigate the effect of operational parameters (i.e. ripping depth and operational speed) during a ripping operation on the draft requirement during ripping in a sandy-clay soil. Field experiments, laboratory tests and numerical modelling techniques were utilised to observe how the draft force varied with changing values of the operational parameters. The discrete element method in the eDeM AcademicTM software platform was employed to model the soil en-masse to obtain a virtual experimentation platform on which different treatments combing different settings of the operational parameters were investigated. Statistical methods, including ANOVA, regression analysis and the student t-test were applied to establish the significance of the effect of the operational parameters on the draft requirement;statistical analysis revealed that the draft increased linearly with the ripping depth and operating speed suggesting that they are directly proportional. Lower values of the ripping depth and operating speed were found to give the minimum amount of the draft requirement.

Complex Chromogen Systems for Cellulosic Fibers

The main aim of the paper was to obtain new reactive dyes with a minimum impact on the environment and on the human health. The synthesized reactive dyes are based on s-triazine reactive system, and they"re dyeing cotton in red, violet, and blue shades. The new dyes were analyzed by specific physico-chemical methods (e. g., thin layer chromatography, absorption spectroscopy in UV-VIS range, photocolorimetry) and then were applied on cotton. The coloristical performances of the studied dyes were analyzed by the well known standardized tests (dyeing intensity, light fastness, water fastness, acid perspiration fastness, wet and drying rubbing fastness). The results allow us to appreciate that the new dyes have physico-chemical and coloristical performances at the level of the actual marks marketed in the world.

AIM： To examine the relationships between pre-diag- nostic biomarkers and colorectal cancer risk and assess their relevance in predictive ***： A nested case-control study was designed to include all first primary incident colorectal cancer cases diagnosed between inclusion in the SUpplemen- tation en VItamines et Min^raux AntioXydants cohort in 1994 and the end of follow-up in 2007. Cases （n = 50） were matched with two randomly selected con- trols （n = 100）. Conditional logistic regression models were used to investigate the associations between pre- diagnostic levels of hs-CRP, adiponectin, leptin, soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 （sVCAM-1）, soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-I, e-selectin, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 and colorectal cancer risk. Area under the receiver operating curves （AUC） and relative integrated discrimination improvement （RIDI） statistics were used to assess the discriminatory poten- tial of the models. ReSULTS： Plasma adiponectin level was associated with decreased colorectal cancer risk （P for linear trend -- 0.03）. Quartiles of sVCAM-1 were associated with increased colorectal cancer risk （P for linear trend = 0.02）. No association was observed with any of the other biomarkers. Compared to standard models with known risk factors, those including both adiponectin and sVCAM-1 had substantially improved performance for colorectal cancer risk prediction （P for AUC improve- ment = 0.01, RIDI = 26.5%）. CONCLUSION： These results suggest that pre-diag- nostic plasma adiponectin and sVCAM-1 levels are as- sociated with decreased and increased colorectal cancer risk, respectively. These relationships must be confirmed in large validation studies.

Kids gone wild–Alcohol use and patient characteristics in pediatric trauma during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic

Importance:Reported coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic effects on pediatric trauma have been ***:We investigated the characteristics of pediatric trauma including alcohol use during the pandemic at our urban trauma ***:The trauma database of our adult level 1 trauma center was queried for all pediatric(age≤18 years)patients presenting between March 1,2020,and October 30,*** from 2017 to 2019 served as a *** analyzed included demographics,mechanisms,injury severity,hospitalization characteristics,and positive blood ***:Pandemic pediatric trauma volumes increased by 67.5%(330/year vs.197/year).Pandemic patients were younger(median age 13 vs.14 years,P=0.011),but similar in gender,ethnicity,severity,hospital length of stay,mortality,and rates of penetrating *** doubled(79/year vs.34/year)and shifted away from high falls>6 meters(0%vs.7.9%)to moderate falls 1–6 meters(58.2%vs.51.5%)(P=0.028).Transportation injury rates were similar however mechanisms shifted from motor vehicle crashes(−13.5%)towards recreational vehicles including motorcycles(+2.1%),all-terrain vehicles(+8.6%),and bicycles(+3.8%)(P=0.018).Pediatricpositive blood alcohol was significantly higher(11.2%vs.5.1%,Pespecially for ages 14–18 years(21.7%vs.9.5%,Perpretation:Pediatric trauma volumes during the COVID-19 pandemic *** patients had more recreational vehicle injuries and higher rates of positive blood *** suggests an increased need for alcohol assessment and targeted interventions in the pediatric population during pandemics or periods of school closures.

Leveraging the biocatalytic machinery of living organisms for fabricating functional bioelectronic interfaces,in vivo,defines a new class of micro-biohybrids enabling the seamless integration of technology with living biological ***,we have demonstrated the in vivo polymerization of conjugated oligomers forming conductors within the structures of ***,we expand this concept by reporting that Hydra,an invertebrate animal,polymerizes the conjugated oligomer eTe-S both within cells that expresses peroxidase activity and within the adhesive material that is secreted to promote underwater surface *** resulting conjugated polymer forms electronically conducting and electrochemically activeμm-sized domains,which are inter-connected resulting in percolative conduction pathways extending beyond 100μm,that are fully integrated within the Hydra tissue and the secreted ***,the introduction and in vivo polymerization of eTe-S can be used as a biochemical marker to follow the dynamics of Hydra budding(reproduction)and *** work paves the way for well-defined self-organized electronics in animal tissue to modulate biological functions and in vivo biofabrication of hybrid functional materials and devices.

About the Satisfaction of the Students Attending the Health area Academic Courses of the University of Bari

In the last decade, the world of academia has faced a period of strong/severe resource constraints/reduction. At the same time, there has been an increasing interest of the Ministry of Research （MIUR） in designing methods to evaluate University performance in order to rank efficient Universities and to reduce potential inefficiencies, so providing the administration authorities with measures that may be used for an optimal resources allocation. With this increasing interest in University performance, a wide academic debate has emerged about the models and measures adopted, based on several quantitative measures of inputs that, sometimes, have been borrowed from the Italian Health organizational model, much more consolidated in its experience. We cite, for all, the students evaluation in terms of standard cost within the resources allocation model introduced last year, and the ＂customers＂ satisfaction measurement, whose main goal is to provide an independent system of regular evaluation of student satisfaction and of the University teaching quality. The aim of this paper is to deal with the students opinion about the quality of teaching, as perceived as ＂users＂ while attending their academic courses in the health area. We agree with the statement that the high quality of healthcare services provided to the community depends also on the main factor, the human capital involved in supplying them. In Italy, the academic courses belonging to the health area provide the access to a limited number of students who passed a hard selection. This rule was introduced by the law n.264/1999 to harmonize the Italian University system to the european one in order to guarantee the high quality of students higher education in this field. And that quality of the education, according to the law, depended on the places in the classrooms, on the equipment and scientific laboratories for teaching; on the teaching staff and technical personnel; on the assistance and tutoring service, on t

Robust Linear Regression Models:Use of a Stable Distribution for the Response Data

In this paper, we study some robustness aspects of linear regression models of the presence of outliers or discordant observations considering the use of stable distributions for the response in place of the usual normality assumption. It is well known that, in general, there is no closed form for the probability density function of stable distributions. However, under a Bayesian approach, the use of a latent or auxiliary random variable gives some simplification to obtain any posterior distribution when related to stable distributions. To show the usefulness of the computational aspects, the methodology is applied to two examples: one is related to a standard linear regression model with an explanatory variable and the other is related to a simulated data set assuming a 23 factorial experiment. Posterior summaries of interest are obtained using MCMC (Markov Chain Monte Carlo) methods and the OpenBugs software.
