Willows （Salix spp.） are a very diverse group of catkin-bearing trees and shrubs that are widely distributed across temperate regions of the globe. Some species respond well to being grown in short rotation coppice （SRC） cycles, which are much shorter than conventional forestry. Cop- picing reinvigorates growth and the biomass rapidly accumulated can be used as a source of renewable carbon for bioenergy and biofuels. As SRC willows re-distribute nutrients during the perennial cycle they require only minimal nitrogen fertilizer for growth. This results in fuel chains with potentially high greenhouse gas reductions. To exploit their potential for renewable energy, willows need to be kept free of pests and diseases and yields need to be improved without significantly increasing the requirements for fertilizers and water. The biomass composition needs to be optimized for different end-uses. Yields also need to be sustainable on land less productive for food crops to reduce conflicts over land use. Advances in understanding the physiology and growth of willow, and in the identification of genes underlying key traits, are now at the stage where they can start to be used in breeding programs to help achieve these goals.

A PEGylated-PLGA random nanofibrous membrane loaded with gold and iron oxide nanoparticles and with silibinin was prepared by electrospinning deposition. The nanofibrous membrane can be remotely controlled and activated by a laser light or magnetic field to release biological agents on demand. The nanosystems were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analyses. The drug loading efficiency and drug content percentages were determined by UV-vis optical absorption spectroscopy. The nanofibrous membrane irradiated by a relatively low-intensity laser or stimulated by a magnetic field showed sustained silibinin release for at least 60 h, without the burst effect. The proposed low-cost electrospinning procedure is capable of assembling, via a one-step procedure, a stimuli-responsive drug-loaded nanosystem with metallic nanoparticles to be externally activated for controlled drug delivery.

Cognitive impairment is a common clinical manifestation of multiple sclerosis,but its pathophysiology is not completely *** and grey matter injury together with synaptic dysfunction do play a *** measurement of biomarkers in the cerebrospinal fluid and the study of their association with cognitive impairment may provide interesting in vivo evidence of the biological mechanisms underlying multiple sclerosis-related cognitive *** far,only a few studies on this topic have been published,giving interesting results that deserve further *** fluid biomarkers of different pathophysiological mechanisms seem to reflect different neuropsychological patterns of cognitive deficits in multiple *** aim of this review is to discuss the studies that have correlated cerebrospinal fluid markers of immune,glial and neuronal pathology with cognitive impairment in multiple *** preliminary,these findings suggest that cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers show some correlation with cognitive performance in multiple sclerosis,thus providing interesting insights into the mechanisms underlying the involvement of specific cognitive domains.

Elaborate evaluation of serum and tissue oxidized LDL level with darapladib therapy:A feasible diagnostic marker for early atherogenesis

Objective: To compare oxidized low density lipoprotein(ox LDL) levels in serum and vascular wall of Sprague-Dawley rats, identify their patterns in 8 weeks and 16 weeks of dyslipidemia induced by high fat diet, compare foam cells in aorta of each group and investigate lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A_2(Lp-PLA_2) role in atherosclerosis by darapladib ***: This study generated in twenty-four Sprague-Dawley rats. Rats were divided into 6 groups, which were received normal diet(normal group), high fat diet and high fat diet plus darapladib therapy for both 8 weeks and 16 weeks. Surgeries were performed at Week 8 and Week 16 to take the blood serum and aortic tissue. Level of ox LDL in serum,ox LDL aortic tissue, foam cell amount in aortic tissue, and Lp-PLA_2 expression in aortic tissue were ***: There were significant differences in ox LDL level in serum, aortic tissue and foam cell amount(P 0.9, P < 0.05).This study also composed an equation for ox LDL level in aortic tissue prediction. Factorial ANOVA found that there was a significant difference of ox LDL level in the interactions between duration and location, location and treatment, and also duration, location and treatment(P < 0.01). Administration of darapladib was able to reduce levels of ox LDL in serum,aortic tissue and foam cell significantly(P < 0.05, P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, subsequently).Conclusions: Ox LDL level is location-dependent and duration-dependent. As a feasible early diagnosis, we can predict ox LDL level in aortic tissue by its level in serum. Though Lp-PLA_2 expression was unsignificant, Lp-PLA_2 inhibition by darapladib can reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in atherogenesis.

In the last years,the production of grape ale beer has become a trendy choice among brewers in Italy,resulting in a new beer type known as Italian Grape Ale(IGA),a sort of bridge beverage between beer and *** this study,three autochthonous Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains(CHE-3,P4 and TA4-10),previously isolated from different food types,were tested in comparison with the commercial strain *** were conducted at a laboratory scale on malt extracts with 15%and 25%grape must adjuncts,and on malt wort(control).After fermentation,the CHE-3,P4 and TA4-10 strains showed significantly higher CO_(2) production than *** main analytical parameters(organic acids,real and apparent attenuation,ethanol content,glycerol level and carbohydrate profile)and the volatile compounds related to the organoleptic quality of the experimental beers were strongly influenced both by the grape must addition to the fermentation medium and the used *** addition of grape must enhanced the CO_(2) production,especially when 25%of grape must was added to the *** comparing the tested strains,the highest aromatic expression was observed with 15%grape must *** present results confirm the importance of media composition and microbial biodiversity to gain more different beers especially in the craft beers ***,the outcome data show the significance of microbial cross-over,a novel approach based on the exploitation of microorganisms traditionally used in other agro-food chains also for brewing novel beer types.
