Background:New fuid biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease(AD)that reveal synaptic and neural network dysfunc‑tions are needed for clinical practice and therapeutic trial *** core vesicle(DCV)cargos are promising cerebrospinal fuid(CSF)indicators of synaptic failure in AD ***,their value as biomarkers has not yet been ***:Immunoassays were performed to analyze the secretory proteins prohormone convertases PC1/3 and PC2,carboxypeptidase E(CPE),secretogranins SgIII and SgII,and Cystatin C in the cerebral cortex(n=45,provided by Bellvitge University Hospital)and CSF samples(n=66,provided by The Sant Pau Initiative on Neurodegeneration cohort)from AD patients(n=56)and age-matched controls(n=55).Results:In AD tissues,most DCV proteins were aberrantly accumulated in dystrophic neurites and activated astro‑cytes,whereas PC1/3,PC2 and CPE were also specifcally accumulated in hippocampal granulovacuolar degeneration *** individuals displayed an overall decline of secretory proteins in the ***,in AD patients,the CSF levels of prohormone convertases strongly correlated inversely with those of neurodegeneration markers and directly with cognitive impairment ***:These results demonstrate marked alterations of neuronal-specifc prohormone convertases in CSF and cortical tissues of AD *** neuronal DCV cargos are biomarker candidates for synaptic dysfunction and neurodegeneration in AD.

Immunometabolism: A target for the comprehension of immune response toward transplantation

Organ transplantation is a life-saving procedure, however predicting graft survival is still challenging. Understanding immune-cell pathobiology is critical to the development of effective therapies to prevent rejection. Over the recent years it has become progressively evident that the complex nature of immune cell behavioral dynamics is strongly dependent on cellular metabolism, which in turn, relies on competition for nutrients, oxygen and metabolites with other immune cells and microbiota. Furthermore, the influence of the inflammatory state can lead to substantial changes in conditions within the tissue microenvironment. Considering the context of immunity, alterations in metabolic pathways (glycolysis, the tricarboxylic acid cycle, the pentose phosphate pathway, the fatty acid oxidation and synthesis, and the amino acid metabolic pathways) will influence the production of different sets of cytokines and affect transplantation outcome. It is now known that na?ve, resting and effector cells acquire different metabolic profiles and studies have shown that specifically targeting some of these metabolic routes can prevent differentiation of effector T cells in favor of Tregs. Ultimately, to develop effective therapies that will prevent graft loss and understanding how cell metabolism impacts the fate and function of immune cells is now a critical point of discussion. The distinct metabolic features and requirements observed in effector and suppressive cell subsets offer promising opportunities for selective regulation of the immune responses in transplantation and will be discussed in this review.

The need for renewable energy sources makes microalgae an essential feedstock for biofuels *** molecular aspects and the response to nitrogen(N)-limited conditions with a phytohormone stimulus in microalgae have been slightly *** this work,Scenedesmus obliquus was used as a study model to analyze the effect of benzyl amino purine(BAP)and gibberellic acid(GA)coupled to nitrogen limitation on cell growth,biomass and fatty *** selected 10^(-5)M BAP increased the biomass by 1.44-fold,and 10^(-6)M GA by *** total lipids also increased by 2.8 and 1.11-fold,*** 10^(-5)M BAP and 10^(-6)M GA addition to *** cultures at different initial nitrogen percentages(N-0,N-25,and N-50)showed a significant increase in cell growth and biomass productivity compared to the unstimulated *** N-0 and GA N-0 produced the highest lipid yields with 55%and 50%,*** lipid profile analysis revealed an increase,particularly in C18:1 and C16:0 fatty *** expression analysis showed an over-expression of acyl carrying protein(ACP),stearoyl-ACP desaturase(SAD),fatty acid acyl-ACP thioesterase(FATA),and diacylglycerol acyltransferase(DGAT)genes,which were mainly induced by nitrogen ***,BAP and GA produced a significant over-expression on these genes in the N-replete *** study shows that BAP and GA,coupled to N limitation stress,can be used to increase the biomass and lipid production in *** for sustainable biofuels.

Obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)are chronic pathologies with a high incidence *** share some pathological mechanisms,including hyperinsulinemia,the production and release of hormones,and *** above,over time,affects other systems of the human body by causing tissue hypoxia,low-grade inflammation,and oxidative stress,which lay the pathophysiological groundwork for *** leading causes of death globally are T2DM and *** main alterations of this pathological triad include the accumulation of advanced glycation end products and the release of endogenous alarmins due to cell death(i.e.,damage-associated molecular patterns)such as the intracellular proteins high-mobility group box protein 1 and protein S100 that bind to the receptor for advanced glycation products(RAGE)-a multiligand receptor involved in inflammatory and metabolic and neoplastic *** review analyzes the latest advanced reports on the role of RAGE in the development of obesity,T2DM,and cancer,with an aim to understand the intracellular signaling mechanisms linked with cancer *** review also explores inflammation,oxidative stress,hypoxia,cellular senescence,RAGE ligands,tumor microenvironment changes,and the“cancer hallmarks”of the leading tumors associated with *** assimilation of this information could aid in the development of diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to lower the morbidity and mortality associated with these diseases.

Agave guiengola Gentry is an endemic plant from a very small locality in Oaxaca,*** conservation status is fragile and can rapidly *** of its scarcity,this agave has been used solely for ornamental purposes,but it could have other uses if more plants were *** vitro propagation by enhanced axillary sprouting from stem segments was attained using Murashige and Skoog Basal Medium(MS)as well as basal medium supplemented with cytokinins 6-Benzylaminopurine(BA)or 6-(γ,γ-Dimethylallylamino)purine(2iP).The best treatment for shoot induction in semisolid medium consisted in MS supplemented with 2 mg l^(–1) BA,obtaining a mean of 3.7 shoots per *** interesting responses were observed,such as nodular callus induction using combinations of BA and 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D);root induction without Plant Growth Regulators(PGR);and generation of shoot *** clusters constituted an excellent explant for micropropagation in temporary immersion bioreactors,obtaining a propagation rate of 43 shoots per explant with 1 min immersion and 6 h immersion *** new plants rooted and survived the transfer to *** study developed an in vitro propagation scheme to produce individuals that can be used either for reforestation,economical purposes,or to carry out studies in this species to assess its full potential,avoiding exploitation from wild plants.

Classification and management of bile duct injuries

To review the classification and general guidelines for treatment of bile duct injury patients and their long term results. In a 20-year period, 510 complex circumferential injuries have been referred to our team for repair at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicasy Nutrición "Salvador Zubirán" hospital in Mexico City and 198 elsewhere (private practice). The records at the third level Academic University Hospital were analyzed and divided into three periods of time: GⅠ-1990-99 (33 cases), G Ⅱ2000-2004 (139 cases) and GⅢ2004-2008 (140 cases). All patients were treated with a Roux en Y hepatojejunostomy. A decrease in using transanastomotic stents was observed (78% vs 2%, P = 0.0001). Partial segment Ⅳ and Ⅴ resection was more frequently carried out (45% vs 75%, P = 0.2) (to obtain a high bilioenteric anastomosis). Operative mortality (3% vs 0.7%, P = 0.09), postoperative cholangitis (54% vs 13%, P = 0.0001), anastomosis strictures (30% vs 5%, P = 0.0001), short and long term complications and need for reoperation (surgical or radiological) (45% vs 11%, P = 0.0001) were significantly less in the last period. The authors concluded that transition to a high volume center has improved long term results for bile duct injury repair. Even interested and tertiary care centers have a learning curve.

Design of a Preamplifier Card for the Photomultiplier Tubes of a Gamma Camera

The service provided by the GC(Gamma Cameras)in the Nuclear Medicine departments fails because of their breakdown,generally due to the associated electronics and not to the physical detection *** this reason,it was decided to develop an electronic system that allows the recovery and optimization of disused GC,starting with the design of the preamplifier for a PMT(photomultiplier tube).The circuit was designed and simulated and the list of components necessary for the construction of the preamplifier was generated,as well as the printed circuit board was designed for its *** simulating the preamplifier this worked in linear *** determines that the amplitude of the output signal is proportional to the amount of charge delivered by the *** card allows an automatic adjustment of the signals of the PMT as do the modern GC.

Effect of Antimony Additions on Corrosion and Mechanical Properties of Sn-Bi Eutectic Lead-Free Solder Alloy

The goal of the present work is to investigate the effects of the addition of Sb (0, 3 and 6 wt%) on structure, melting, corrosion and mechanical properties of Sn-Bi eutectic solder alloys. The mechanical properties of the bulk Sn-Bi-Sb solders were higher as the amount of antimony increases, making compressive strength augment from 65 MPa to 100 MPa when 6 wt% Sb was incorporated to the Sn-Bi eutectic alloy. The three alloys presented a melting temperature that is smaller to the one exhibited by the eutectic alloy Sn-38Pb (Tm = 183°C). According to the electrochemical results, the addition of higher contents of Sb to the Sn-Bi eutectic alloy had a positive effect: it ennobled the Ecorr values.
