High-purity stra.ght a.d discrete m.ltiwa.led boron nitride na.otubes （BNNTs） were grown via.a.boron oxide va.or rea.tion with a.0}onia.using LiNO3 a. a.prom.ter. Only a.tra.e a.0}unt of boron oxide wa. detected a. a. im.urity in the BNNTs by energy-dispersive X-ra. （EDX） a.d Ra.0}n spectroscopies. Boron oxide va.or wa. genera.ed from.a.m.xture of B, FeO, a.d m.O powders hea.ed to 1,150 ℃, a.d it wa. tra.sported to the rea.tion zone by flowing a.0}onia. Lithium.nitra.e wa. a.plied to the upper side of a.BN ba. from.a.wa.er solution. The ba. wa. pla.ed a.ong a.tem.era.ure gra.ient zone in a.horizonta. tubula. furna.e. BNNTs with a.era.e dia.0}ters of 30-50 nm.were m.stly observed in a.tem.era.ure ra.ge of 1,280-1,320 ℃. a. higher tem.era.ures, curled polycrysta.line BN fibers a.pea.ed. a.ove 1,320 ℃, the num.er of BNNTs dra.tica.ly decrea.ed, wherea. the qua.tity a.d dia.0}ter of the fibers increa.ed. The m.cha.ism.of BNNT a.d fiber growth is proposed a.d discussed.
