Geochemical constraints and uranium potential of the younger granitic rocks in El Maghrbia area, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt

The present work deals with the mineralogy,geochemical behavior and uranium potentiality of the monzogranites of El Maghrbia area,which comprise *** Maghrbia and *** Eredyia and situated in the central Eastern Desert of ***-Erediya monzogranites represents a promising area for uranium *** granites have shear zone filled with red and black silica veins containing many radioactive anomalies with visible yellow secondary uranium *** shear zone is highly affected by different degrees of alterations such as silicification,kaolinitization,sassuritization and *** of El-Erediya area possess higher values of their radioactivity than in El Maghrbia monzogranites in which eU and eTh,reaches up to 792.3 and 66.81 ppm,whilst average content of eU and eTh in El Maghrabia granites are 3.86 and 8.55 ppm,respectively owing to the presence of radioactive minerals such as uraninite,uranothorite,uranophane,kasolite,betafite,zircon and *** geochemical analyses indicated that,the studied monzogranites are distinctly anomalous in U,where the average U is more than 620-fold the Upper Continental Crust(UCC),marked enrichment(> tenfold) of the elements Cd,Mo,Pb,Bi,Nb and *** Th/U ratio decreases from 2.8,as a chondritic value,to 0.0023 for the studied granites,proposing extreme fractionation towards an extensive secondary migration-in of *** Zr and Hf are depleted in the studied granites relative to the UCC,whereas Nb and Ta are strongly *** content of Y is about sixfold enriched which reflects relative enhancement of the HREE during the alteration *** correlates with fe_(2)O_(3),suggesting a possible association between uranium and ***,the occurrences of uranium are epigenetic by remobilization from the host rock to the sheared zones,probably through metasomatic process where U-fe-Mg replaced the feldspars in an oxidized *** high levels of radioactivity in the rocks

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAfLD)has recently become a public health concern concurrent with the obesity *** work has shown aberrant mitochondrial content/quality and autophagy in models of NAfLD,whereas exercise is known to improve these *** purpose of this study was to examine the effect of different weight-loss modalities on hepatic mitochondrial content,autophagy and mitophagy in ***-eight male C57BL/6J mice were divided into 1 of 4 groups:low fat diet(LfD,10%fat,18 weeks),high fat diet(HfD,60%fat diet,18 weeks),weight-loss by diet(D,60%fat diet for 10 weeks then 10%fat diet for 8 weeks)or weight-loss by diet and physical activity(D/PA,60%fat diet for 10 weeks,then 10%fat diet plus a running wheel for 8 weeks).Immunoblot data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA)with significance denoted at pfD compared to LfD.D/PA had 50%more BNIP3 compared to ***1 content was 40%higher in D and D/PA compared to ***/PARKIN levels were 40%lower in HfD,D,and D/PA compared to *** p-UbSer65 was 3-fold higher in ***3II/I ratio was 50%greater in HfD and D/PA,yet p62 protein content was 2.5 fold higher in ***-fat diet causes disruptions in markers of mitochondrial quality *** activity combined with diet were able to ameliorate these derangements and seemingly improve hepatic mitochondrial quality above control values.

Ischemic brain injury causes neuronal death and *** activates protein-tyrosine phosphatase 1B(PTP1B).Here,we tested the significance of PTP1B activation in glutamatergic projection neurons on functional recovery in two models of stroke:by photothrombosis,focal ischemic lesions were induced in the sensorimotor cortex(SM stroke)or in the peri-prefrontal cortex(peri-PfC stroke).Elevated PTP1B expression was detected at 4 days and up to 6 weeks after *** ablation of PTP1B in neurons of neuronal knockout(NKO)mice had no effect on the volume or resorption of ischemic lesions,markedly different effects on functional recovery were *** stroke caused severe sensory and motor deficits(adhesive removal test)in wild type and NKO mice at 4 days,but NKO mice showed drastically improved sensory and motor functional recovery at 8 *** addition,peri-PfC stroke caused anxiety-like behaviors(elevated plus maze and open field tests),and depression-like behaviors(forced swimming and tail suspension tests)in wild type mice 9 and 28 days after stroke,respectively,with minimal effect on sensory and motor ***-PfC stroke-induced affective disorders were associated with fewer active(fosB+)neurons in the PfC and nucleus accumbens but more fosB+neurons in the basolateral amygdala,compared to sham-operated *** contrast,mice with neuronal ablation of PTP1B were protected from anxiety-like and depression-like behaviors and showed no change in fosB+neurons after peri-PfC *** together,our study identifies neuronal PTP1B as a key component that hinders sensory and motor functional recovery and also contributes to the development of anxiety-like and depression-like behaviors after ***,PTP1B may represent a novel therapeutic target to improve stroke *** procedures for animal use were approved by the Animal Care and Use Committee of the University of Ottawa Animal Care and Veterinary Service(protocol 1806)on July 27,2018.

A Review on 1^st and 2^nd Generation Bioethanol Production-Recent Progress

Today’s society is based on the use of fossil resources for transportation fuels. The result of unlimited consumption of fossil fuels is a severe depletion of the natural reserves and damage to the environment. Depleting fossil reserves and increasing demand for energy together with environmental concerns have motivated researchers towards the development of alternative fuels which are eco-friendly, renewable and economical. Bioethanol is one such dominant global renewable transport biofuel which can readily substitute fossil fuels. Conventionally, bioethanol has been produced from sucrose and starch rich feedstocks (edible agricultural crops and products) known as 1st generation bioethanol;however this substrate conflicts with food and feed production. As an alternative to 1st generation bioethanol, currently there is much focus on advancing a cellulosic bioethanol concept that utilizes lignocellulosic residues from agricultural crops and residues (such as bagasse, straw, stover, stems, leaves and deoiled seed residues). Efficient conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into bioethanol remains an area of active research in terms of pretreatment of the biomass to fractionate its constituents (cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin), breakdown of cellulose and hemicellulose into hexose and pentose sugars and co-fermentation of the sugars to ethanol. The present review discusses research progress in bioethanol production from sucrose, starch and cellulosic feedstocks. Development of efficient technology to convert lignocellulosic biomass into fermentable sugars and optimization of enzymatic hydrolysis using on-site/ in-house enzyme preparation are the key areas of development in lignocellulosic bioethanol production. Moreover, finding efficient fermenting microorganisms which can utilize pentose and hexose sugars in their metabolism to produce ethanol together with minimum foam and glycerol formation is also an important parameter in fermentation. Comparison of WeatherMax<sup>®</sup>and Engame<sup>TM</sup>formulations of Glyphosate on Cotyledon Surface Structure, Chlorophyll A fluorescence and Shikimate Levels in Isogenic Cotton Cultivars Differing in Roundup Resistance

The effects of Roundup WeatherMax® and EngameTM formulations of glyphosate were investigated on the cotyledons of glyphosate resistant (GR) and glyphosate sensitive (GS) isogenic cotton cultivars. EngameTM is a mixture of glyphosate and 1-aminomethanamide dihydrogen tetraoxosulfate (AMADS). Fully expanded cotton cotyledons treated with EngameTM or AMADS developed surface lesions within 2 hours after treatment whereas surfactant-treated control or WeatherMax®-treated tissues did not develop lesions. The EngameTM and AMADS damage appeared as depressions which were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy. Light micrographs of cross sectionsfont-family:Verdana;"> through the depressions revealed collapsed and compressed epidermal and mesophyll cells with congealed cytoplasmic contents in the palisade and spongy mesophyll cells. Changes to photosynthetic electron transport were evident at 4 hours after treatment (HAT) in all treatments as revealed by chlorophyll A fluorescence. The Liberian Civil Conflict was the culmination of a series of factors ranging from inter-related structural–factors that reach deep into the very foundation of Liberian history and triggerissues that have escalated disputes into the cycles of violent conflicts. Structural factors such asthe lack of one unifying national identity, economic and political disparities between Americo–Liberian and the indigenous population, lack of good governance, widespread poverty and overalllack of socio-economic development of the Liberian society have played key roles in the *** violation of human rights by consecutive regimes, unequal distribution of the countrywealth and resources, changes in control of central authority and the consequent distribution ofpower, as well as land dispute, interferences by neighboring states and the US all have contributedto the intermittent violence that has characterized the country for the past twenty-five years. Allthese, which have permeated the Liberian society and have been on the increase since theformation and independence of the Liberian state, exploded and degenerated into chaos beginningfrom the Settlers-Indigenous Conflict of1822to the failed Coup d’état of November12,1985. The civil conflict in Liberia has caused unparalleled tragedy that resulted in the death ofhundreds of thousands and displacement of more than half of country’s pre-war population andeven millions of dollars of damages in infrastructure. There were severe large-scale massacres,flagrant violations of human rights, widespread rape and sexual abuse of women and girls,random killings, brutalities, and abuse against children. Despite these, there are a lot of prospects for the Liberia state to rise from the ashes ofwanton destruction due to the aforementioned causes of the Liberian civil conflict. Electro-Hydrodynamics and Kinetic Modeling of Dry and Humid Air flows Activated by Corona Discharges

The present work is devoted to the 2D simulation of a point-to-plane Atmospheric Corona Discharge Reactor （ACDR） powered by a DC high voltage supply. The corona reactor is periodically crossed by thin mono filamentary streamers with a natural repetition frequency of some tens of kHz. The study compares the results obtained in dry air and in air mixed with a small amount of water vapour （humid air）. The simulation involves the electro-dynamics~ chemical kinetics and neutral gas hydrodynamics phenomena that influence the kinetics of the chemical species transformation. Each discharge lasts about one hundred of a nanosecond while the post- discharge occurring between two successive discharges lasts one hundred of a microsecond. The ACDR is crossed by a lateral dry or humid air flow initially polluted with 400 ppm of NO. After 5 ms, the time corresponding to the occurrence of 50 successive discharge/post-discharge phases, a higher NO removal rate and a lower ozone production rate are found in humid air. This change is due to the presence of the HO2 species formed from the H primary radical in the discharge zone.

Trends of Extreme Temperature and Rainfall Indices for Arid and Semi-Arid Lands of South Eastern Kenya

Extreme climate events have profound impacts on economies and livelihoods of many regions of the world. In Kenya, the extreme climate events often have strong impacts on agriculture production systems in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs). A small change in the mean climate condition can cause large changes in these production systems. There is a paucity of information on trends in climate and climate extremes in the country. However, a joint World Meteorological Commission for Climatology/World Climate Research Programme (WCPRP) project on climate Variability and Predictability (WMO CCl/CLIVAR) Expert Team (ET) on Climate Change Detection, Monitoring and Indices has defined 27 core climate indices mainly focusing on extreme events which can be derived through the use of RClimDex Software. In this study, therefore, the RClimDex software has been used to derive climate extreme indices for five stations in the ASALs of South-Eastern Kenya based on climate data for the period 1961 to 2009. The objective was to examine trends in these extremes to aid agricultural planning and practice. These indices have shown decreasing trends in annual rainfall, rainfall intensity and consecutive wet days but increasing trends in consecutive dry days. Steady warming patterns were evident in both the maximum and minimum temperature indices. This paper concludes that indeed significant changes in climate extremes are apparent in the ASALs of the country and recommends a re-thinking of planning and practice of rain-fed agriculture in the ASALs of South-Eastern Kenya.

The purposes of this paper are to better understand the design and impact of left turn lane offset and provide state transportation agencies recommendations on best practices and alternative design options to address left turn sight line obstruction *** studies and existing guidelines on left turn lane offset were reviewed and summarized to offer insights in driver sight distance and behavior,intersection safety and operations,as well as design elements related to left turn lane *** showed that at both unsignalized intersections and signalized intersections with permitted left turns,obstructed sight line could cause higher possibilities of collisions between left turning vehicles and oncoming vehicles from the opposing *** evaluations of left turn lane offset,with data from multiple states in the United States,reported that positive left turn lane offsets were beneficial in terms of safety and *** agency guidelines provided very limited discussions about left turn lane *** review demonstrated that positive left turn lane offsets are beneficial to intersection safety and *** on the review of research and guidelines,recommendations were provided for transportation agencies for left turn lane offset implementation.A discussion on new left turn design concepts was also included to point out directions for future research and practice.
