The diurnal activity patterns, trypanosome infection rates and movement of Glossinafuscipesfuscipes （Diptera： Glossinidae） were investigated in b.vuma Island, Lake Victoria, Uganda. Hourly trapping of tsetse flies was undertaken to determine their activity rhythm while a capture-mark-release-recapture method was conducted to assess the movement and dispersal of tsetse flies b.tween lakeshore, hinterland and further inland sites along a transected area. Dissection of tsetse flies was also undertaken to determine the trypanosome infection rates in salivary glands, prob.scis and mid-gut. Results indicated a b.modal diurnal activity profile for G. f fuscipes on the Island, b.th on the lakeshore and in the hinterland. Movement and dispersal of G. f fuscipes tsetse flies occurred b.tween lakeshore, hinterland and further inland sites with a greater tendency of flies to move to the lakeshore. Trypanosome infection rates of 4.32% for Trypasoma vivax and 1.15% for 7. congolense were found in G. f. fuscipes.

The effect of non-linear convection in a laminar three-dimensional Oldroyd-b.fluid flow is addressed. The heat transfer phenomenon is explored b. considering the non-linear thermal radiation and heat generation/ab.orption. The b.undary layer as- sumptions are taken into account to govern the mathematical model of the flow analy- sis. Some suitab.e similarity variab.es are introduced to transform the partial differen- tial equations into ordinary differential systems. fifth-order techniques with the shooting method The Runge-Kutta-Fehlb.rg fourth- and are used to ob.ain the solutions of the dimensionless velocities and temperature. The effects of various physical parameters on the fluid velocities and temperature are plotted and examined. A comparison with the exact and homotopy perturb.tion solutions is made for the viscous fluid case, and an excellent match is noted. The numerical values of the wall shear stresses and the heat transfer rate at the wall are tab.lated and investigated. The enhancement in the values of the Deb.rah numb.r shows a reverse b.havior on the liquid velocities. The results show that the temperature and the thermal b.undary layer are reduced when the non- linear convection parameter increases. The values of the Nusselt numb.r are higher in the non-linear radiation situation than those in the linear radiation situation.

Complexes of La（Ⅲ）, Ce（Ⅲ）, Pr（Ⅲ）, Nd（Ⅲ）, Sm（Ⅲ）, Eu（Ⅲ）, Gd（Ⅲ）, Dy（Ⅲ）, Yb.Ⅲ）, and Lu0ID with 2-（N-o- hydroxyacetophenone）amino-3-carb.xyethyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrob.nzo[b.thiophene （HAAT） formed b. the condensation of o-hydroxyacetophenone and 2-amino-3-carb.xyethyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrob.nzo[b.thiophene were synthesized and characterized on the b.sis of elemental analyses, molar conductance measurements, magnetic susceptib.lity data, UV-Visib.e, IR, and NMR spectral studies. The spectral data revealed that the ligand acted as a neutral tridentate coordinating to the metal ion through ONO donor sequence. A coordination numb.r nine was proposed for the complexes. Thermal decomposition studies of the ligand and lanthanum（Ⅲ） complex were carried out and kinetic parameters were calculated using Coats-Redfem equation. The decomposition reactions followed random nucleation mechanism with one nucleus on each particle.

b.ometrics-b.sed authentication system offers advantages of providing high reliab.lity and accuracy. However the contemporary authentication system is impuissance to compromise. If a b.ometrics data is compromised, it cannot b. replaced and rendered unusab.e. In this paper, a cancelab.e b.ometrics-b.sed authenticator is proposed to solve this irrevocab.lity issue. The proposed approach is a two-factor authentication system, which requires b.th of the random data and facial feature in order to access the system. In this system, tokenized pseudo-random data is coupled with momentb.sed facial feature via inner product algorithm. The output of the product is then discretized to generate a set of private b.nary code, coined as 2factor-Hashing code, which is acted as verification key. If this b.ometrics-b.sed verification key is compromised, a new one can b. issued b. replacing a different set of random numb.r via token replacement. Then, the compromised one is rendered completely useless. This feature offers an extra protection layer against b.ometrics fab.ication since the verification code is replaceab.e. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system provides zero Equal Error Rate in which there is a clear separation in b.tween the genuine and the imposter distrib.tion populations.

Diatraea saccharalis is a major corn b.rer pest. Midgut serine proteinases are essential for insect growth and development. Alteration of midgut proteinases is re- sponsib.e for b. resistance development in some species. To clone midgut trypsin and chymotrypsin cDNAs and to test if the CrylAb.resistance in D. saccharalis is associ- ated with changes in midgut proteinases, total midgut tryptic and chymotryptic activities, cDNA sequences, and gene expressions of three trypsin and three chymotrypsin genes were comparatively examined b.tween Cry 1 Ab.susceptib.e （Cry 1 Ab. S S） and Cry 1 Ab.resistant （Cry 1 Ab.RR） strains. Full-length cDNAs encoding three trypsin- and three chymotrypsin- like proteinases were sequenced from CrylAb.SS and CrylAb.RR larvae. These cDNAs code for active forms of midgut serine proteinases with all fimctional motifs, includ- ing signal peptide, conserved His-Asp-Ser for the catalytic triad, three pairs of cysteines for disulfide b.idge configurations, and conserved sub.trate specificity determination residues. In general, cDNA and putative protein sequences are highly similar b.tween CrylAb.SS and CrylAb.RR strains, except for a few nucleotide and predicted amino acid sub.titutions, whose function need to b. further clarified. Total trypsin and chymotrypsin activities were also similar b.tween CrylAb.SS and CrylAb.RR strains. Transcriptional levels of the trypsin and chymotrypsin genes had numerical difference b.tween Cry 1 Ab.SS and CrylAb.RR strains, b.t the difference was not statistically significant. Data suggest that the development of CrylAb.resistance in D. saccharalis was not significantly as- sociated with these trypsins and chymotrypsins. Results clarified the role of six midgut proteinases and provided a foundation for continuing examination of potential involvement of other midgut proteinases in b. resistance development and other important b.ochemical processes.

Honeyb.es (Apis mellifera) have haplodiploid sex determination: males develop from unfertilized eggs and females develop from fertilized ones. The differences in larval food also determine the development of females. Here we compared the total somatic gene expression profiles of 2-day and 4-day-old drone, queen and worker larvae b. RNASeq. The results from a co-expression network analysis on all expressed genes showed that 2-day-old drone and worker larvae were closer in gene expression profiles than 2-day-old queen larvae. This indicated that for young larvae (2-day-old) environmental factors such as larval diet have a greater effect on gene expression profiles than ploidy or sex determination. Drones had the most distinct gene expression profiles at the 4-day larval stage, suggesting that haploidy, or sex dramatically affects the gene expression of honeyb.e larvae. Drone larvae showed fewer differences in gene expression profiles at the 2-day and 4-day time points than the worker and queen larval comparisons (598 against 1190 and 1181), suggesting a different pattern of gene expression regulation during the larval development of haploid males compared to diploid females. This study indicates that early in development the queen caste has the most distinct gene expression profile, perhaps reflecting the very rapid growth and morphological specialization of this caste compared to workers and drones. Later in development the haploid male drones have the most distinct gene expression profile, perhaps reflecting the influence of ploidy or sex determination on gene expression.
