Here we introduce bismuth-based catalysts for the efficient electrochemical reduction of CO_(2)to formic acid(HCOOH),which are composed of petal-shaped Bi_(2)O_(2)CO_(3)(BOC)that spontaneously formed from Bi thin film in aqueous carbonate solution at room *** the electrochemical reduction process,the BOC petals transform to reduced BOC(R-BOC)consisting of individual BOC and Bi *** mismatch between both domains induces biaxial strain at the *** functional theory calculations suggest that the tensile strain on the Bi domain stabilizes the*OCho intermediate,reducing the thermodynamic barrier toward CO_(2)conversion to *** with the thermodynamic benefit and the unique nanoporous petal-shaped morphology,R-BOC petals have a superior Faradaic efficiency of 95.9%at-0.8 V_(RHE)for the electrochemical conversion of CO_(2)to *** work demonstrates that the spontaneously formed binary phases with desirable lattice strain can increase the activity of bismuth catalysts to the CO_(2)reduction reaction;such a strategy can be applicable in design of various electrocatalysts.

Potassium titanate nanostructures were synthesised by hydrothermal treatment of TiO2 （P25） in KOH and H2O2. As-produced powders were characterised by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption methods. Longitudinally-oriented-wire-like structures with a length up to several micrometres and diameters ranging from 10 to 30 nm were obtained. Larger size fibrous nanowires resulting from the hydrotherrnal treatment showed high affinity in adsorbing crystal violet （CV）, which was mainly due to their high surface area. The photocatalytic bleaching of CV solution revealed that the wires are photoactive under ultraviolet light irradiation. Macroporous nanowires are considered as effective adsorbents of CV, capable of photocatalvtic degradation, and they can be easily separated from the solution by settling.

The one-bead-one-compound （OBOC） combinatorial peptide library is a powerful tool to identify ligand and receptor interactions. Here, we applied the OBOC library technology to identify mimotopes specific to the immunoglobulin E （IgE） epitopes of the major shellfish allergen tropomyosin. OBOC peptide libraries with 8-12 amino acid residues were screened with serum samples from patients with shellfish allergy for IgE mimotopes of tropomyosin. Twenty-five mimotopes were identified from the screening and their binding reactivity to tropomyosin-specific IgE was confirmed by peptide ELISA. These mimotopes could be divided into seven clusters based on sequence homology, and epitope mapping by EpiSearch of the clustered mimotopes was performed to characterize and confirm the validity of mimotopes. Five out of six of the predicted epitopes were found to overlap with previously identified epitopes of tropomyosin. To further confirm the mimicry potential of mimotopes, BALB/c mice were immunized with mimotopes conjugated to keyhole limpet hemocyanin and assayed for their capacity to induce tropomyosin-specific antibodies. BALB/c mice that received mimotope immunization were found to have an elevated level of tropomyosin-specific immunoglobulin G, but not mice that received an irrelevant mimotope. This study pioneers the successful application of the OBOC libraries using whole sera to screen and identify multiple shrimp allergen mimotopes and validates their mimicry potential using in vitro, in vivo, and in silico methods.

Multiple comparisons among genomes can clarify their evolution, speciation, and functional innova- tions. To date, the genome sequences of eight grasses representing the most economically important Poaceae （grass） clades have been published, and their genomic-level comparison is an essential foundation for evolutionary, functional, and translational research. Using a formal and conservative approach, we aligned these genomes. Direct comparison of paralogous gene pairs all duplicated simultaneously reveal striking variation in evolutionary rates among whole genomes, with nucleotide substitution slowest in rice and up to 48% faster in other grasses, adding a new dimension to the value of rice as a grass model. We reconstructed ancestral genome contents for major evolutionary nodes, potentially contributing to understanding the divergence and speciation of grasses. Recent fossil evidence suggests revisions of the estimated dates of key evolutionary events, implying that the pan-grass polyploidization occurred ~96 million years ago and could not be related to the Creta- ceous-Tertiary mass extinction as previously inferred. Adjusted dating to reflect both updated fossil evidence and lineage-specific evolutionary rates suggested that maize subgenome divergence and maize-sorghum divergence were virtually simultaneous, a coincidence that would be explained if poly- ploidization directly contributed to speciation. This work lays a solid foundation for Poaceae transla- tional genomics.

Background:The combinatorial efect of multiple genetic factors calculated as a polygenic risk score(PRS)has been studied to predict disease progression to Alzheimer’s disease(AD)from mild cognitive impairment(MCI).Previous studies have investigated the performance of PRS in the prediction of disease progression to AD by including and excluding single nucleotide polymorphisms within the region surrounding the APOE *** studies may have missed the APOE genotype-specifc predictability of PRS for disease progression to ***:We analyzed 732 MCI from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative cohort,including those who progressed to AD within 5 years post-baseline(n=270)and remained stable as MCI(n=462).The predictability of PRS including and excluding the APOE region(PRS_(+APOE) and PRS_(−APOE))on the conversion to AD and its interaction with the APOEε4 carrier status were assessed using Cox regression ***:PRS_(+APOE)(hazard ratio[HR]1.468,95%CI 1.335-1.615)and PRS_(−APOE)(HR 1.293,95%CI 1.157-1.445)were both associated with a signifcantly increased risk of MCI progression to *** interaction between PRS_(+APOE) and APOEε4 carrier status was signifcant with a P-value of *** association of PRSs with the progression risk was stronger in APOEε4 non-carriers(PRS_(+APOE):HR 1.710,95%CI 1.244-2.351;PRS_(−APOE):HR 1.429,95%CI 1.182-1.728)than in APOEε4 carriers(PRS_(+APOE):HR 1.167,95%CI 1.005-1.355;PRS_(−APOE):HR 1.172,95%CI 1.020-1.346).Conclusions:PRS could predict the conversion of MCI to dementia with a stronger association in APOEε4 noncarriers than APOEε4 *** indicates PRS as a potential genetic predictor particularly for MCI with no APOEε4 alleles.

Ferromagnetic materials have been utilized as recording media in data storage devices for many decades. The confinement of a material to a two-dimensional plane is a significant bottleneck in achieving ultra-high recording densities, and this has led to the proposition of three-dimensional （3D） racetrack memories that utilize domain wall propagation along the nanowires. however, the fabrication of 3D magnetic nanostructures of complex geometries is highly challenging and is not easily achieved with standard lithography techniques. Here, we demonstrate a new approach to construct 3D magnetic nanostructures of complex geometries using a combination of two-photon lithography and electrochemical deposition. The magnetic properties are found to be intimately related to the 3D geometry of the structure, and magnetic imaging experiments provide evidence of domain wall pinning at the 3D nanostructured junction.

The transiting exoplanet system HAT-P-24 was observed by using CCD cameras at Yunnan Observatory and hokoon Astronomical Centre, China in 2010 and 2012. In order to enhance the signal to noise ratio of transit events, the observed data are corrected for systematic errors according to Collier Cameron et al.＇s coarse de- correlation and Tamuz et al.＇s SYSREM algorithms. Three new complete transit light curves are analyzed by means of the Markov chain Monte Carlo technique, and the new physical parameters of the system are derived. They are consistent with the old ones from the discovered paper except for a new larger radius Rp = 1.364 Rj of HAT- P-24b, which confirms its inflated nature. By combining the five available epochs of mid-transit derived from complete transit light curves, the orbital period of HAT-P- 24b is refined to P = 3.3552479 d and no obvious transit timing variation signal can be found from these five transit events during 2010-2012.
