Scaffolds based therapy for osteochondral lesions of the talus:A systematic review

AIM To clarify the effectiveness of scaffold-based therapy for osteochondral lesions of the talus(OLT). METHODS A systematic search of MEDLINE and EMBASE databases was performed during August 2016 and updated in January 2017. Included studies were evaluated with regard to the level of evidence(LOE) and quality of evidence(QOE) using the Modified Coleman Methodology Score. Variable reporting outcome data, clinical outcomes, and the percentage of patients who returned to sport at previous level were also evaluated. RESULTS Twenty-eight studies for a total of 897 ankles were included; 96% were either LOE Ⅲ or Ⅳ. Studies were designated as either of poor or fair quality. There were 30 treatment groups reporting six different scaffold repair techniques: 13 matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte transplantation(MACT), nine bone marrow derived cell transplantation(BMDCT), four autologous matrixinduced chondrogeneis(AMIC), and four studies of other techniques. The categories of general demographics(93%) and patient-reported outcome data(85%) were well reported. Study design(73%), imaging data(73%), clinical variables(49%), and patient history(30%) were also included. The weighted mean American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society(AOFAS) score at final follow-up was: 86.7 in MACT, 88.2 in BMDCT, and 82.3 in AMIC. Eight studies reported that a weighted mean of 68.3% ofpatients returned to a previous level of sport activity. CONCLUSION Scaffold-based therapy for OLT may produce favorable clinical outcomes, but low LOE, poor QOE, and variability of the data have confounded the effectiveness of this treatment.

Testing decreasing variabililty of cockroach forewings through time using four Recent species： Blattella germanica, Polyphaga aegyptiaca, Shelfordella lateralis and Blaberus craniifer, with implications for the study of fossil cockroach forewings

Vrsansky, （2000） considered there is decreasing variability in the forewings of cockroaches through time, based on a study of fossil and Recent species. This study tests his theory, based on a study of four Recent species of cockroaches： Blattella germanica （Blattellidae）, Polyphaga aegyptiaca （Polyphagidae）, Shelfordella lateralis （Blattidae） and Blaberus craniifer （Blaberidae）. The new results, based on the coefficient of variation （CV） of the number of veins, indicate that Recent species can be more variable than fossil species and therefore do not support the theory. The results also show that at least 30 complete wings of the same species are required for a reliable CV value that is compa- rable between species.

This study endeavors to investigate the effects of Bifidobacterium breve CCFM1078 on bone formation and resorption balance in growing BALB/c *** BALB/c mice were assigned to the control group(administration saline)and the CCFM1078 group(administration *** CCFM1078,3×10^(9) CFU/day)in 3-,4-,and 5-week *** the groups have male and female *** findings demonstrate that *** CCFM1078 exerts on the dynamic equilibrium between bone formation and resorption during the critical period of growth in mice by modulating the composition of gut microbiota and metabolites(hexadecanamide,linoleoyl ethanolamide,and palmitoyl ethanolamide),the genes and proteins expression related to the growth hormone(GH)/insulin-like growth factors-1(IGF-1)axis and Gs/PKA/CREB signaling pathways,as well as downstream osteogenic and osteoclastic differentiation *** effects of *** CCFM1078 were different with age and gender *** finding suggests *** CCFM1078 may have potential applications in regulating bone metabolism in the growth period population.

Bifidobacterium longum *** is a commensal bacterium that predominates in the infant gut,playing a critical role in both preventing foreign infections and facilitating immune *** study aimed to explore the effects of *** *** supplementation on interferon-beta(IFN-β)secretion and intestinal barrier improvement in growing *** and male mice were orally administered either saline or *** *** CCFM1269 or I5TI(1×10^(9) CFU/mice per day,n=8)from 1-week-age until 3-,4-,and *** sequencing analysis revealed that CCFM1269 exhibited potential antiviral capacity through increasing 2'-5'oligoadenylate synthetase(OAS).Additionally,CCFM1269 supplementation significantly increased colonic IFN-β levels which combined with OAS in 3-week-old female and male mice by activating the TLR4-TRIF-dependent signaling ***,this effect was not observed in 4-and 5-week-old ***,both CCFM1269 were found to modulate the gut microbiota composition and enhance the intestinal barrier function in 3-,4-,and 5-week-old *** summary,the results of this study suggested that *** *** CCFM1269 promoting intestinal barrier and releasing IFN-β in growing mice was in a strain-specific and time-dependent manner.

Synthesis of lutetium hydrides at high pressures

High-pressure synthesis of lutetium hydrides from molecular hydrogen(H_(2))and lutetium(Lu)is systematically investigated using synchrotron X-ray diffraction,Raman spectroscopy,and visual *** demonstrate that the reaction pathway between H_(2)and Lu invariably follows the sequence Lu→LuH_(2)→LuH_(3)and exhibits a notable time dependence.A comprehensive diagram representing the formation and synthesis of lutetium hydrides as a function of pressure and time is *** findings indicate that the synthesis can be accelerated by elevated temperature and decelerated by increased ***,two critical pressure thresholds at ambient temperature are identified:the synthesis of LuH_(2)from Lu commences at a minimum pressure of~3 GPa,while~28 GPa is the minimum pressure at which LuH_(2)fails to transform into LuH_(3)within a time scale of *** underscores the significant impact of temporal factors on synthesis,with the reaction completion time increasing sub-linearly with rising ***,the cubic phase of LuH_(3)can be obtained exclusively through compressing the trigonal LuH_(3)phase at~11.5 *** also demonstrate that the bandgap of LuH_(3)slowly closes under pressure and is noticeably lower than that of LuH_(2).

Quantifying prosthetic gait deviation using simple outcome measures

we demonstrate a novel,composite laser written 3D waveguide,fabricated in boro-aluminosilicate glass,with a refractive index contrast of 1.12×10^(−2).The waveguide is fabricated using a multi-pass approach which leverages the respective refractive index modification mechanisms of both the thermal and athermal inscription *** present the study and optimisation of inscription parameters for maximising positive refractive index change and ultimately demonstrate a dramatic advancement on the state of the art of bend losses in laser-written *** 1.0 dB cm−1 bend loss cut-off radius is reduced from 10 mm to 4 mm,at a propagation wavelength of 1550 nm.

The Moon

Recent geochemical and geophysical data from the Moon enable a revision of earlier interpretations regarding lunar origin, structure and bulk composition. Earth and Moon show many similarities among their isotopic compositions, but they have evolved in totally dissimilar ways, probably related to the deficiency of water and volatile elements in the Moon as well as the vast differences in size and internal pressure. Some global geochemical differences from the Earth such as volatile depletion based on K/U ratios have been established. However, all current lunar samples come from differentiated regions, making the establishment of a bulk composition more reliant on bulk geophysical properties or isotopic similarities; it remains unclear how the latter arose or relate to whole Moon composition. The lack of fractionation effects among the refractory and super-refractory elements indicates that the proto-lunar material seems unlikely to have been vaporized while the presence of volatile elements may place lower limits on proto-lunar temperatures. The apparent lack of geochemical evidence of an impacting body enables other possible impactors, such as comets, to be considered. Although the origin of the Moon remains currently unknown, it is generally believed that the Moon originated as the result of a giant impact on the Earth.
