The crystalline terrane of the Tongbai-Dabie region,centralChina,comprising the Earth’s largest ultrahigh-pressure(UHP) exposure was formed during Triassic collision between the Sino-Korean andYangtze *** apatite fission-track(AFT) data presented here from the UHP terrane,extends over a significantly greater area than reported in previous studies,and includes the(eastern) Dabie,the Hong’an(northwestern Dabie) and Tongbai *** new data yield ages ranging from44±3 to 142±36Ma and mean track lengths between□10 and 14.4μ.*** history models based on the AFT data taken together with published 40Ar/39Ar,K -Ar,apatite and zircon(U-Th)/He and U-Pb data,exhibit a three-stage cooling pattern that is similar across the study region,commencing with an Early Cretaceous rapid cooling event, followed by a period of relative thermal stability during which rocks remained at temperatures within the AFT partial annealing zone(□60-110℃) and ending with a possible renewed phase of accelerated cooling during Pliocene to Recent *** first cooling phase followed large-scale transtensional deformation between□140 and 110 Ma and is related to Early Cretaceous eastward tectonic escape and Pacific back arc *** this phase and the subsequent slow cooling phase,a transition period from□120 to 80Ma(to□70 to 45Ma along the Tan-Lu fault) was characterised by a relatively low cooling rate(□3-5℃/Ma).This transition is likely related to a tectonic response associated with the mid-Cretaceous subduction of the IzanagiPacific plate aswell as lithospheric extension and thinning in eastern *** present regional AFTage pattern is therefore basically controlled by the Early Cretaceous rapid cooling event,but finally shaped through active Cenozoic *** the transition phase the subsequent slow cooling phase pattern implies a net reduction in horizontal compressional stress corresponding to increased extensionrates along the continental margin due to the de

[Correction added after online publication 3 August 2010 - ’prelate’ has been changed to ’pre-late’ throughout the text].Using apatite fission track and(U-Th-Sm)/Ⅱe thermochronology,we report the low-temperature thermal history of the Mesozoic Micang Shan Foreland Basin system,central *** system,comprising the Hannan Dome hinterland,the northern Sichuan Foreland Basin and the intermediate frontal thrust belt(FB),shares a common boundary with three major tectonic terrains Mesozoic Qinling-Dabie Orogen,Mesozoic Sichuan Foreland Basin and Cenozoic elevated Tibetan *** show:(1) a relatively rapid pre-late Cretaceous cooling episode in the Hannan Dome;(2) a mid-Cenozoic cooling phase(ca.50℃at ca.30±5 Ma) within the northern Sichuan Basin;and(3) possible late Cenozoic cooling(ca.25℃at ca.16±4 Ma) within the Hannan Dome-FB,a phase which has also been reported previously from adjacent *** pre-late Cretaceous cooling episode in the Hannan Dome is attributed to coeval tectonism in nearby regions. Mid-Cenozoic cooling in the northern Sichuan Basin can possibly be attributed to either one of or a combination of shortening of the basin,onset of the Asian monsoon and drainage adjustment of the Yangtze River system,all of which are related to growth of the Tibetan *** late Cenozoic cooling in the hinterland and nearby regions is also probably related to the northeastward growth of the Tibetan ***,previous studies suggest a northeastward propagation for onset of cooling from the eastern Tibetan Plateau to western Qinling in response to northeastward lower crust flow from the central Tibetan *** timing of apparent late Cenozoic cooling in the Hannan Dome hinterland,at an intermediate locality,is not consistent with this trend,and supports a previous model suggesting northeastern growth of the Tibetan Plateau through reactivation of wE trending strike-slip faults.

The timing of the transition of a peripheral foreland basin from underfilled to overfilled provides important insights into the post-orogenic dynamics of its coupled orogenic *** information is lacking in the Mesozoic foreland basins surrounding the Qinling Orogen,central China,such as the Daba Shan Foreland Basin(DSFB),the northeastern part of the Sichuan *** an effort to constrain the timing of maximum burial and onset of denudation,we report detrital zircon(U-Th)/He(ZHe) data from four deep boreholes in the *** show that ZHe ages from the oldest foreland basin formations(Upper Triassic-lower Middle jurassic) are mostly younger than their depositional age,whereas non-reset ZHe ages characterize younger *** suggests that the oldest strata attained maximum temperatures between -130℃and 200℃(ZHe partial retention zone),which is consistent with previous independent paleotemperatures (organic matter reflectance and illite crystallinity) reported in two of the boreholes and another nearby. The fully reset ages apparently show the youngest peaks at -80 Ma and -100 Ma,which are interpreted as the minimum constraints on the timing of maximum basinal burial and subsequent *** that the regional deposition has lasted to Aptian time,it is proposed that the onset of the basin exhumation in the DSFB started at Aptian-Albian time(～100-125 Ma),heralding the termination of regional tectonic shortening in the hinterland(Southern Qinling).

An apatite U-Pb thermal history map for the northern Gawler Craton,South Australia

Apatite U-Pb thermochronology was applied to granitoid basement samples across the northern Gawler Craton to unravel the Proterozoic, post-orogenic, cooling history and to examine the role of major fault zones during cooling. Our observations indicate that cooling following the ~2500 Ma Sleaford Orogeny and ~1700 Ma Kimban Orogeny is restricted to the Christie and wilgena Domains of the central northern Gawler Craton. The northern Gawler Craton mainly records post-Hiltaba Event(~1590 Ma) U-Pb cooling ages. Cooling following the ~1560 Ma Kararan Orogeny is preserved within the Coober Pedy Ridge,Nawa Domain and along major shear zones within the south-western Fowler Domain. The Nawa Domain samples preserve U-Pb cooling ages that are >150 Ma younger than the samples within the Coober Pedy Ridge and Fowler Domain, indicating that later(~1300 Ma) fault movement within the Nawa Domain facilitated cooling of these samples, caused by arc collision in the Madura Province of eastern western Australia. when compared to^(40)Ar/^(39) Ar from muscovite, biotite and hornblende, our new apatite U-Pb ages correlate well, particularly in regions of higher data density. Our data also preserve a progressive younging of U-Pb ages from the nucleus of the craton to the periphery with a stark contrast in U-Pb ages across major structures such as the Karari Shear Zone and the Southern Overthrust, which indicates the timing of reactivation of these major crustal structures. Although this interpolation was based solely on thermochronological data and did not take into account structural or other geological data, these maps are consistent with the structural architecture of the Gawler Craton and reveal the thermal footprint of known tectonic and magmatic events in the Gawler Craton.

Traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease are three distinct neurological disorders that share common pathophysiological mechanisms involving neuroinflammation. One sequela of neuroinflammation includes the pathologic hyperphosphorylation of tau protein, an endogenous microtubule-associated protein that protects the integrity of neuronal cytoskeletons. Tau hyperphosphorylation results in protein misfolding and subsequent accumulation of tau tangles forming neurotoxic aggregates. These misfolded proteins are characteristic of traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease and can lead to downstream neuroinflammatory processes, including assembly and activation of the inflammasome complex. Inflammasomes refer to a family of multimeric protein units that, upon activation, release a cascade of signaling molecules resulting in caspase-induced cell death and inflammation mediated by the release of interleukin-1β cytokine. One specific inflammasome, the NOD-like receptor protein 3, has been proposed to be a key regulator of tau phosphorylation where it has been shown that prolonged NOD-like receptor protein 3 activation acts as a causal factor in pathological tau accumulation and spreading. This review begins by describing the epidemiology and pathophysiology of traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease. Next, we highlight neuroinflammation as an overriding theme and discuss the role of the NOD-like receptor protein 3 inflammasome in the formation of tau deposits and how such tauopathic entities spread throughout the brain. we then propose a novel framework linking traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease as inflammasomedependent pathologies that exist along a temporal continuum. Finally, we discuss potential therapeutic targets that may intercept this pathway and ultimately minimize long-term neurological decline.

Axonal regeneration following surgical nerve repair is slow and often incomplete,resulting in poor functional recovery which sometimes contributes to lifelong ***,there are no FDA-approved therapies available to promote nerve *** accelerates axonal regeneration,but systemic side effects presently outweigh its potential benefits for peripheral nerve *** authors describe herein a biodegradable polyurethane-based drug delivery system for the sustained local release of tacrolimus at the nerve repair site,with suitable properties for scalable production and clinical application,aiming to promote nerve regeneration and functional recovery with minimal systemic drug *** is encapsulated into co-axially electrospun polycarbonate-urethane nanofibers to generate an implantable nerve wrap that releases therapeutic doses of bioactive tacrolimus over 31 *** and drug loading are adjustable for applications in small and large caliber nerves,and the wrap degrades within 120 days into biocompatible *** released from the nerve wrap promotes axon elongation in vitro and accelerates nerve regeneration and functional recovery in preclinical nerve repair models while off-target systemic drug exposure is reduced by 80%compared with systemic *** its surgical suitability and preclinical efficacy and safety,this system may provide a readily translatable approach to support axonal regeneration and recovery in patients undergoing nerve surgery.
