A 2nd generation roof bolter canopy air curtain(CAC)design was tested by National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH)at a Midwestern underground coal *** the study,the roof bolter never operated downwind of the continuous *** a combination of personal Data Rams(pDR)and gravimetric samplers,the dust control efficiency of the roof bolter CAC was *** evaluation was determined using three methods:(1)comparing roof bolter operator concentrations underneath the CAC to roof bolter concentrations outside the CAC,(2)comparing roof bolter operator concentrations underneath the CAC to the concentrations at the rear of the bolter,and finally,(3)using the gravimetric data directly underneath the CAC to correct roof bolter operator concentrations underneath the CAC and comparing them to the concentrations at the rear of the *** 1 dust control efficiencies ranged from 53.9%to 60.4%.Method 2 efficiencies ranged from 150.5%to 52.2%,and Method 3 efficiencies ranged from 40.7%to 91%.Reasons for negative and low dust control efficiencies are provided in this paper and include:incorrect sampling locations,large distance between CAC and operator,and contamination of intake air from line *** dust concentrations encountered during the testing made it difficult to discern whether differences in concentrations were due to the CAC or due to variances inherent in experimental dust ***,the analyses,especially the Method 3 analysis,show that the CAC can be an effective dust control device.

Accurate atmospheric temperature and moisture information with high temporal/spatial resolutions are two of the key parameters needed in regional numerical weather prediction(NWP) models to reliably predict high-impact weather events such as local severe storms(LSSs). High spectral resolution or hyperspectral infrared(HIR) sounders from geostationary orbit(GEO) provide an unprecedented source of near time-continuous, three-dimensional information on the dynamic and thermodynamic atmospheric fields—an important benefit for nowcasting and NWP-based forecasting. In order to demonstrate the value of GEO HIR sounder radiances on LSS forecasts, a quick regional OSSE(Observing System Simulation Experiment)framework has been developed, including high-resolution nature run generation, synthetic observation simulation and validation, and impact study on LSS forecasts. Results show that, on top of the existing LEO(low earth orbit) sounders, a GEO HIR sounder may provide value-added impact [a reduction of 3.56% in normalized root-mean-square difference(RMSD)] on LSS forecasts due to large spatial coverage and high temporal resolution, even though the data are assimilated every 6 h with a thinning of 60 km. Additionally, more frequent assimilations and smaller thinning distances allow more observations to be assimilated, and may further increase the positive impact from a GEO HIR sounder. On the other hand, with denser and more frequent observations assimilated, it becomes more difficult to handle the spatial error correlation in observations and gravity waves due to the limitations of current assimilation and forecast systems(such as a static background error covariance). The peak reduction of 4.6% in normalized RMSD is found when observations are assimilated every 3 h with a thinning distance of 30 km.

Football is the most popular sport worldwide and is associated with a high inj.ry rate, most of which are the result of trauma from player contact. Ankle inj.ries are among the most commonly diagnosed inj.ries in the game. The result is reduced physical activity and endurance levels, lost game time, and considerable medical cost. Sports medicine professionals must employ the correct diagnostic tools and effective treatments and rehabilitation protocols to minimize the impact of these inj.ries on the player. This review examines the diagnosis, treatment, and postoperative rehabilitation for common football inj.ries of the ankle based on the clinical evidence provided in the current literature.

研究了铌掺杂的Li/MgO甲烷氧化偶联催化剂的反应性质及铌的助剂作用.铌的引入使得该催化剂上甲烷氧化偶联反应的活化温度降低50℃以上,使此温度降到了催化剂中碳酸锂的熔点附近.试验观察到部分催化剂上甲烷氧化偶联反应的活性曲线在碳酸锂的熔点附近有一转折,这一转折现象的出现与否及程度取决于制备条件在碳酸锂的熔点附近,含有铌的催化剂得到活化,观察到无稀释气体时的反应引燃现象,即温度增加几度活性便达到最大值.当在比碳酸锂熔点稍高的温度下且不稀释时反应,含铌催化剂活性很高但很快失活,在稍低于此熔点下则不失活,但活性较低.这些试验结果表明,含铌催化剂的活化与失活均与催化剂中的碳酸锂的相变化有关.试验还观察到了在稍高于碳酸锂的熔点下做寿命试验时,甲烷氧化偶联反应的振荡现象.

Dear editor,The incidence of emergency department(ED)visits from gastroparesis and cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome has increased by two folds over the past decade.[1-3]Roldan et al[4]reported that patients with these conditions often have prolonged ED stays and are likely to be hospitalized because of the danger of dehydration and challenges inherent in relieving *** analgesia is a particularly troublesome treatment modality;these conditions are often chronic with frequent recurrences,and repeated opiate therapy can cause opioid dependency and narcotic bowel syndrome.[5]Haloperidol(HP)and droperidol,members of the butyrophenone class,have potent antidopaminergic activity in the chemoreceptor trigger zone.[6,7]Intramuscular administration of HP is being used increasingly in the ED to treat nausea,vomiting secondary to gastroparesis,[6]intractable vomiting,[8]and cyclical vomiting.

Diesel engine exhaust(DEE) and crystalline silica exposures occur simultaneously in the mining industry,and occupational sampling campaigns can be time-and cost-consuming. The authors evaluated a dualport system for simultaneous sampling of DEE and crystalline silica in laboratory and field *** tests evaluated the operation of pumps during 8 h sampling and the intensity of the flow variation for various filter loading conditions and for different modes of operation. Field validation was performed in an underground mine. Pumps operated in constant flow or constant pressure *** in constant flow mode showed that when the flowrate increased on one side of the system, it decreased on the opposite side according to the loading intensity. Tests in constant pressure mode showed that flowrates systematically decreased when using loaded cassettes. However, the higher the backpressure setting, the lower the flow variation was. Flow variations during field tests were generally within the acceptable ±5% range. However, significant flow variations were identified in higher concentrations. A significant negative correlation was found between flowrate variation and total carbon concentration. While the maj.rity of tests support the use of the dual-port for evaluating concomitant exposures, results highlight the possibility of filter overloading as a cause of flowrate changes.

Relief of osteoarthritis with a herbal-amino acid supplement: A randomized double-blind placebo controlled trial

A redox active medicinal plant and L-leucine mixture (HLM) was investigated in subj.cts with established osteoarthritis of the knee in a multi-center, rando- m-ized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial. A total of 96 subj.cts with osteoarthritis were enrolled and randomized to either placebo (n = 38) or HLM treatment group (n = 38). The HLM group re- ceived a combination of Uncaria tomentosa (300 mg), Boswellia serrata (200 mg), Lepidium meyenii (1000 mg) and L-Leucine (700 mg) given as 3 capsules once a day. The placebo group received matching capsules with carboxymethylcellulose. The treatment period was 8 weeks, with assessments made at days 7, 14, 28 and 56. The primary outcome was reduction in total WOMAC score. VAS pain, tolerability, investigator assessments, use of rescue medication (acetominophen), and safety assessments of vital signs and laboratory assessments were included. Subj.ct randomization was effective for age, gender and disease severity. In the placebo group 32/38 subj.cts completed the trial and for HLM 35/38. WOMAC scores (pain, stiffness, physical performance and total) steadily declined over the course of the 8 week study in both groups, but the magnitude was significantly greater for HLM (P < 0.05). Total WOMAC was reduced 46.5% for HLM and 25.4 % for placebo. VAS pain was reduced 21.8% in the placebo group (p < 0.002) but the changes were significantly greater (37.8% p < 0.03) with HLM treatment. Investigator’s global assessment rating of good-excellent was 24/35 (69%) for HLM and 14/32 (44%) for placebo (P = 0.05). Rescue medication consumption and tolerability were comparable for HLM and placebo. No safety issues were evident with either group. As expected a placebo effect was observed, nevertheless HLM was clearly more effective in relieving the symptoms of osteoarthritis. This HLM represents a safe and effective new approach to the management of osteoarthritis symptoms.
