Psychosocial mechanisms for the transmission of somatic symptoms from parents to children

AIM: To examine familial aggregation of irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) via parental reinforcement/modeling of symptoms, coping, psychological distress, and exposure to ***:Mothers of children between the ages of8 and 15 years with and without IBS were identified through the Group Health Cooperative of Puget *** completed questionnaires,including the Child Behavior Checklist(child psychological distress),the Family Inventory of Life Events(family exposure to stress),SCL-90R(mother psychological distress),and the Pain Response Inventory(beliefs about pain).Children were interviewed separately from their parents and completed the Pain Beliefs Questionnaire(beliefs about pain),Pain Response Inventory(coping)and Child Symptom Checklist[gastrointestinal(GI)symptoms].In addition,health care utilization data was obtained from the automated database of Group Health *** with IBS(n=207)and their 296 children were compared to 240 control mothers and their 335 children,while controlling for age and ***:Hypothesis 1:reinforcement of expression of GI problems is only related to GI symptoms,but not others(cold symptoms)in *** was no significant correlation between parental reinforcement of symptoms and child expression of GI or other *** 2:modeling of GI symptomsis related to GI but not non-GI symptom reporting in *** of parents with IBS reported more non-GI(8.97 vs 6.70,Pde by the mother correlated with visits made by the child(rho=0.35,Pdren learn to share the methods of coping with illness that their mothers *** used by children to cope with stomachaches differed from methods used by their *** 2/16 scales showed weak but significant correlations(stoicism rho=0.13,Pd chi

design and Simulation of a Feedback Control System for a Steel Plate Storage

A discrete event heuristic feedback control system fo r a steel plate storage at Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd is developed and implemente d in a computer-based simulation model. The plant is subject to stochastic dist urbances. The control system is able to handle this stochastic behaviour bec ause of the feedback design. The present simulation results indicate that a bene fit in the range of 30%～40% is reachable by modifying the plant. Plant description The steel plate storage is located at Odense Steel Shipyard Ltd, denmark. The st eel plate storage contains steel plates used to build ship sections. The size of the storage is 600x35 meters. It consists of 32x8 stacks of plates. Plates are delivered and removed dynamically. The plate storage contains 5.000 steel plates in average. Over time, new plates delivered to the storage replace plates removed from the storage. The maximum si ze of a plate is 17x4 meters with a weight of up to 22 tons. The plates are uniq ue and dedicated to a specific purpose but in average the 5 000 plates consist o f 2 500 types. Plates are transported around the plate storage by two portal cranes. The cranes drive on a common rail and hence they cannot overtake each other. The cranes us e magnetic force to lift the plates. The crane can deliver the lifted plate to a conveyor belt or to another stack depending on whether the plate has been order ed for the current day or later. The plant is subject to different kinds of disturbances. The processes performed at the plant are stochastic. Furthermore, the due dates of the plates are frequ ently changed and hence the effect of previously sorting might be lost. The control task is to dispatch movements of plates to the two cranes. The overa ll goal is to minimize the costs at the plate storage and hence the two cranes a re used for executing the movements as fast as possible without colliding and re spect other physical constraints. Metabolic regulation of immune responses to cancer

The tumor microenvironment is an ecosystem composed of multiple types of cells, such as tumor cells, immune cells, and cancerassociated fibroblasts. Cancer cells grow faster than non-cancerous cells and consume larger amounts of nutrients. The rapid growth characteristic of cancer cells fundamentally alters nutrient availability in the tumor microenvironment and results in reprogramming of immune cell metabolic pathways. Accumulating evidence suggests that cellular metabolism of nutrients, such as lipids and amino acids, beyond being essential to meet the bioenergetic and biosynthetic demands of immune cells, also regulates a broad spectrum of cellular signal transduction, and influences immune cell survival, differentiation, and anti-tumor effector function. The cancer immunometabolism research field is rapidly evolving, and exciting new discoveries are reported in high-profile journals nearly weekly. Therefore, all new findings in this field cannot be summarized within this short review. Instead, this review is intended to provide a brief introduction to this rapidly developing research field, with a focus on the metabolism of two classes of important nutrients-lipids and amino acids-in immune cells. We highlight recent research on the roles of lipids and amino acids in regulating the metabolic fitness and immunological functions of T cells, macrophages, and natural killer cells in the tumor microenvironment. Furthermore, we discuss the possibility of “editing” metabolic pathways in immune cells to act synergistically with currently available immunotherapies in enhancing anti-tumor immune responses.

Soliton Trains Induced by Adaptive Shaping with Periodic Traps in Four-Level Ultracold Atom Systems

It is well known that an optical trap can be imprinted by a light field in an ultracold-atom system embedded in an optical cavity, and driven by three different coherent fields. Of the three felds coexisting in the optical cavity there is an intense control field that induces a giant Kerr nonlinearity via electromagnetically-induced transparency, and another feld that creates a periodic optical grating of strength proportional to the square of the associated Rabi frequency. In this work elliptic-soliton solutions to the nonlinear equation governing the propagation of the probe field are considered, with emphasis on the possible generation of optical soliton trains forming a discrete spectrum with well defined quantum numbers. The problem is treated assuming two distinct types of periodic optical gratings and taking into account the negative and positive signs of detunings （detuning above or below resonance）. Results predict that the competition between the self-phase and cross-phase modulation nonlinearities gives rise to a rich family of temporal soliton train modes characterized by distinct quantum numbers.

目的:以早产儿、足月新生儿和幼儿为对象,研究其体内注射英脱利匹特后血液流变学的改变情况。现已知,英脱利匹特引起的循环系统并发症,如肺循环和体循环血流阻力增加,与血液流变学变化有关。方法:收集处于全胃肠外营养期的病例,分成早产儿组、足月儿组和幼儿组,每组均为10例,给予初始剂量的英脱利匹特后,间隔4 h再次输注(0.6 g/kg)。另外,采取10例健康早产儿、10例足月新生儿和10例成人的血液样本,用英脱利匹特进行试管培养。英脱利匹特输注前后,以及用英脱利匹特进行试管血液培养前后,分别检测全血黏度和血浆黏度(用毛细血管黏度计测定),红细胞(RBC)
