The global trend toward aging populations has resulted in an increase in the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease(AD)and associated socioeconomic *** metabolism of amyloid-β(Aβ)has been proposed as a significant pathomechanism in AD,supported by results of recent clinical trials using anti-Aβ***,the cognitive benefits of the current treatments are *** etiology of AD is multifactorial,encompassing Aβand tau accumulation,neuroinflammation,demyelination,vascular dysfunction,and comorbidities,which collectively lead to widespread neurodegeneration in the brain and cognitive ***,solely removing Aβfrom the brain may be insufficient to combat neurodegeneration and preserve *** attain effective treatment for AD,it is necessary to(1)conduct extensive research on various mechanisms that cause neurodegeneration,including advances in neuroimaging techniques for earlier detection and a more precise characterization of molecular events at scales ranging from cellular to the full system level;(2)identify neuroprotective intervention targets against different neurodegeneration mechanisms;and(3)discover novel and optimal combinations of neuroprotective intervention strategies to maintain cognitive function in AD *** Alzheimer's Disease neuroprotection Research Initiative's objective is to facilitate coordinated,multidisciplinary efforts to develop systemic neuroprotective strategies to combat *** aim is to achieve mitigation of the full spectrum of pathological processes underlying AD,with the goal of halting or even reversing cognitive decline.

A semi-analytical rate-transient analysis model for light oil reservoirs exhibiting reservoir heterogeneity and multiphase flow

Rate-transient analysis(RTA)has been widely applied to extract estimates of reservoir/hydraulic fracture ***,the majority of RTA techniques can lead to misdiagnosis of reservoir/fracture information when the reservoir exhibits reservoir heterogeneity and multiphase flow *** work proposes a practical-yet-rigorous method to decouple the effects of reservoir heterogeneity and multiphase flow during TLF,and improve the evaluation of reservoir/fracture properties.A new,general,semi-analytical model is proposed that explicitly accounts for multiphase flow,fractalbased reservoir heterogeneity,anomalous diffusion,and pressure-dependent fluid *** is achieved by introducing a new Boltzmann-type transformation,the exponent of which includes reservoir heterogeneity and anomalous *** order to decouple the effects of reservoir heterogeneity and multiphase flow during TLF,the modified Boltzmann variable allows the conversion of three partial differential equations(PDE's)(i.e.,oil,gas and water diffusion equations)into ordinary differential equations(ODE's)that are easily solved using the Runge-Kutta(RK)method.A modified time-power-law plot is also proposed to estimate the reservoir and fracture properties,recognizing that the classical square-root-of-time-plot is no longer valid when various reservoir complexities are exhibited *** the slope of the straight line on the modified time-power-law plot,the linear flow parameter can be estimated with more ***,because of the new Boltzmann-type transformation,reservoir and fracture properties can be derived more efficiently without the need for defining complex pseudo-variable *** the new semi-analytical model,the effects of multiphase flow,reservoir heterogeneity and anomalous diffusion on rate-decline behavior are *** the case of approximately constant flowing pressure,multiphase flow impacts initial oil rate,which is a funct

Exploring Educator Values Alignment Strategies in an Intervention Context: The Emergence of the Beacon Strategy

Purpose:The purpose of this paper is to explore whether the four value alignment strategies available to educators(Scaffolding,Balancing,Intervention,and Refuge)previously identified in the mathematics education literature comprehensively capture educator value alignment strategies in an in terve ntion con ***/Approach/Methods:To this end,we analyse semi-structured interview data with two teacher-leaders involved in the Getting Ready in numeracy(G.R.I.n.)intervention program through a value alignment ***:We ascertain that a fifth strategy,the Beacon strategy,is needed to describe the range of value alignment strategies employed by educators in the *** Beacon strategy involves the educator digging in and reasserting their expectations until the student behaves in a manner that aligns with the educator's *** part it invoIves the educator being able to recognize their own values and clearly communicating these values to students.O rigin al ity/Value:This article further explores strategies that educators have at their disposal for aligning their values with those of their *** uncovering of the Beacon strategy is particularly valuable as it suggests that educators could be purposefully pursuing value alignment even when they do not appear to take any active steps to move further towards their students'sets of values.

A mathematical model is developed for simulating sediment transport and bed changes in the lower Yellow River during the winter. The empirical sediment transport formula commonly used for open water conditions is modified for ice covered conditions based on field dste. In the simulation model, temporal and spatial changes of flow, sediment transport rate, and channel bed profile are calculated at successive time steps and cross sections. Changes in channel width are calculated bond on the minimum stream power concept. The distribution of erosion and deposition at a cross-section is determined by the effective tractive force *** simulation results are compered favorably with field observations.

Systemic Capillary Leak Syndrome Secondary to COVID-19 Infection: Case Report

Introduction: Systemic capillary leak syndrome (SCLS) is an increasingly recognized rare syndrome. Its diagnosis is suggested by the occurrence of edema with arterial hypotension, hemoconcentration, and paradoxical hypoalbuminemia. SCLS can be idiopathic (clarkson syndrome) or secondary. Secondary SCLS (SSCLS) is mainly triggered by infections (especially viruses), drugs (antitumor therapy), malignancies, and inflammatory diseases. We report a case of systemic capillary leak syndrome secondary to the COVID-19 infection. Observation: A 74-year-old chronic smoker with no particular history was initially admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with a picture of respiratory distress secondary to a COVID-19 infection with favorable evolution, hence his transfer to the emergency services. On Day 8 of hospitalization, following the installation of arterial hypotension, not responding to filling, associated with hypoalbuminemia, and generalized edematous syndrome, and in the absence of any other explanation for this clinical picture, a SCLS secondary to COVID-19 infection was suggested. On the balance sheet, after the discovery of acute renal failure, serum creatinine went from 7.9 mg/l to 16.6 mg/l with microalbuminuria at 420 mg/24h and leukocyturia at 20 elements/mm3 without germ-evoked tubulointerstitial nephritis (TIn) secondary to a viral infection with COVID-19. The evolution was marked by the spontaneous regression of the edema and the normalization of the blood pressure figures. Discussion: The classic triad combining hypotension, hemoconcentration, and hypoalbuminemia suggests the diagnosis of SCLS once all other causes of shock have been ruled out. Hemoconcentration is less constant in SSCLS than in ISCLS. This is the case with our patient. The exact pathophysiological process of SCLS is largely unknown. Viral infections are the most common infectious cause of SCLS. The kidneys are the second-most common organs affected by the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus

Black carbon（BC） particles play a unique and important role in earth’s climate *** was measured（in-situ） in the central part of the Indo-Gangetic Plains（IGP） at Varanasi,which is a highly populated and polluted region due to its topography and extensive emission *** annual mean BC mass concentration was 8.92 ± 7.0 μg m-3,with 34%of samples exceeding the average ***,BC was highest during the post-monsoon and winter periods（approximately 18 μg m-3） and lower in the premonsoon/monsoon seasons（approximately 6 μg m-3）.The highest frequency（approximately 46%） observed for BC mass was in the interval from 5 to 10 μg ***,during the post-monsoon season,the most common values（approximately 23%） were between 20 and 25 μg *** nighttime concentrations of BC were approximately twice as much as the daytime values because of lower boundary layer heights at *** Angstrom exponent was significantly positively correlated（0.55） with ground-level BC concentrations,indicating the impact of BC on the columnar aerosol *** estimated mean absorption Angstrom exponent was 1.02 ± 0.08 μg m-3,indicating that the major source of BC was from fossil fuel *** negative correlations between BC mass and meteorological parameters indicate a pronounced effect of atmospheric dynamics on the BC mass in this *** highest mean BC mass concentration（18.1 ± 6.9 μg m-3） as a function of wind speed was under calm wind conditions（38%of the time）.
