Laparoscopic resection of primary retroperitoneal schwannoma:A case report

BACKGROUNd Schwannomas are rare,often benign,tumors deriving from Schwann cells that have low incidence in the retroperitoneal region(0.5%to 5%).Their diagnosis is hardly confirmed at early stage due to lack of specific features in signs,symptoms and imaging ***,it is necessary performing guided punch biopsy in order to identify *** removal is the treatment of choice due to its low sensitivity to radiation and *** SUMMARY Forty-seven years old female patient who was hospitalized for elective orthopedic procedure,without complications,evolved with severe pain in the lower limbs,thigh and gluteal region associated with neurogenic *** pain required magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)of the lumbar spine,which showed epidural collection with dural compression and massive heterogeneous perihepatic nodular *** surgical team opted for draining the collection,as well as requested an MRI of the abdomen and pelvis,whose analysis showed expansive lesion in the retroperitoneum,in close contact with the inferior vena cava and with the right renal vein.A guided puncture was performed for diagnostic clarification,which showed immunohistochemical profile compatible with *** selected treatment comprised retroperitoneum tumor resection in association with laparoscopic *** patient was discharged and remained stable after 4-mo follow-up;she remains under followup to check the need of cancer *** Schwannoma features requires surgical treatment based on laparoscopic resection,which often presents low relapse rates and optimistic prognosis.

BACKGROUNd Temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE)is the most common focal epilepsy subtype in adults and is frequently accompanied by depression,anxiety and *** in total paraoxonase 1(PON1)status may occur in TLE and these psychiatric *** To examine PON1 status,namely Q192R PON1 genotypes and PON1 enzymatic activities,in *** We recruited 40 normal controls and 104 TLE patients,27 without comorbidities and 77 with comorbidities including mood disorders(n=25),anxiety disorders(n=27)and psychosis(n=25).RESULTS Four-(chloromethyl)phenyl acetate hydrolysis(CMPAase)and arylesterase activities were significantly lower in TLE and mesial temporal sclerosis(MTS)with and without psychiatric comorbidities than those in normal *** areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve of CMPAase were 0.893(0.037)for TLE and 0.895(±0.037)for *** least squares path analysis showed that there were specific indirect effects of PON1 genotype on TLE severity(Pd psychopathology(Pdiated by lowered CMPAase activity,while arylesterase activity was not *** severity of TLE was significantly associated with psychopathology ***,PON1 CMPAase activity was inversely associated with Mini Mental State Examination *** The severity of TLE and comorbidities are to a large extent explained by reduced PON1 enzyme activities and by effects of the Q192R genotype,which are mediated by reduced CMPAase *** PON1 status plays a key role in the pathophysiology of TLE,MTS and psychiatric comorbidities by increasing the risk of oxidative ***1 enzyme activities are new drug targets in TLE to treat seizure frequency and psychiatric comorbidities.

Silica is an abundant and technologically attractive *** to the structural complexities of silica polymorphs coupled with subtle differences in Si–O bonding characteristics,the development of accurate models to predict the structure,energetics and properties of silica polymorphs remain *** models for silica range from computationally efficient Buckingham formalisms(BKS,CHIK,Soules)to reactive(ReaxFF)and more recent machine-learned potentials that are flexible but computationally ***,we introduce an improved formalism and parameterization of BKS model via a multireward reinforcement learning(RL)using an experimental training *** model concurrently captures the structure,energetics,density,equation of state,and elastic constants of quartz(equilibrium)as well as 20 other metastable silica *** also assess its ability in capturing amorphous properties and highlight the limitations of the BKS-type functional forms in simultaneously capturing crystal and amorphous *** demonstrate ways to improve model flexibility and introduce a flexible formalism,machine-learned ML-BKS,that outperforms existing empirical models and is on-par with the recently developed 50 to 100 times more expensive Gaussian approximation potential(GAP)in capturing the experimental structure and properties of silica polymorphs and amorphous silica.

Trace elements migrating from tailings to rock varnish laminated sediments in an old mining region from Nelson,Nevada,USA

The dispersion and influence of soluble and particulate trace elements(TEs) present in the materials from abandoned mines is an imminent problem on terrestrial and aquatic *** goal of this research is to provide a broader view of such transport,assessing particle size distribution and TE interactions(e.g.,scavenging) with mine tailings and locally derived sediments transported by water in arid *** grains from wash sediment were collected from a dry ephemeral wash in Nelson,Nevada where the Techatticup Mine and Mill worked between 1850 and *** were evaluated to determine the association and behavior of certain metals and metalloids including aluminum,arsenic,barium,cadmium,copper,chromium,iron,manganese,lead,selenium,vanadium,and zinc to rock varnish laminated *** show that some metals and metalloids were more concentrated on larger particles whereas others indicated the opposite *** example,As was greatest on silt fractions and least on coarse fractions,while Se was detected only on ***,Cu,Fe,Mn,Pb,and Zn concentrations all increased with decreasing particle size(silt> sand> coarse),whereas Al,Ba,and V showed the opposite trend(silt d d Se were lower in mine tailing sediment treated with wash than those obtained for source *** in treated wash sediment samples,the high EFs of Ba,Cr,V,and Mn suggested a possible greater affinity of these metals to the Al,Fe,and Mn oxides from the RV *** data found in this study show that transport of contaminated sediments in arid regions could lead to the enrichment of some TEs in downgradient areas from source materials.

Rice drying,Storage and Processing:Effects of Post-Harvest Operations on Grain Quality

Various post-harvest processes of rice are commonly employed,especially during the off-season,to ensure its consumption feasibility,which often affect the grain *** forms of drying,storage and processing of rice are evaluated to identify their effects on grain *** drying has emerged as an alternative to the widely-used intermittent-drying and fixed-bed-dryer methods of drying paddy *** of drying-air temperatures(between 40℃ and 60℃)according to the rice variety can improve quality,especially for exotic *** stored grain in hygroscopic balance,with water content between 11%to 15%,at temperatures between 16℃ and 20℃ and with intergranular relative humidity near 60%,allows 12 months of storage in a controlled environment without significant *** innovations,notably the application of artificial refrigeration to grain stored in bulk in vertical cylindrical silos and the use of impermeable packaging for storage,ensure the conservation of grain *** different stages and equipments used to obtain polished,brown and parboiled rice result in significant changes in the nutritional value of rice because of the removal of the outermost layers of the *** reduces the nutritional value and physical homogeneity of *** rice retains more bioactive compounds and nutrients because it does not lose the outer layer of the grains in the polishing *** rice,although less nutritious than brown rice,has better grain integrity and milling yield and less loss of nutrients than white rice.
