Environmental pressure, land utilization, and economic feasibility have resulted in the development of alternatives to treatment fish farm wastewater. We examined the influence of two water treatment systems—a constructed wetland (CW) and a soil filter system (Sf)—on the constitution of the phytoplankton community analyzed through the functional grouping of species and nutrients removal of aquaculture farm. The CW provided high removal efficiency: 82.9% for ammonia, 87.0% for nitrate, 96.9% for nitrite, 85.5% for total phosphorus, 88.5% for SRP and 71.6% for BOD. Removal efficiency of Sf was lower than CW, removing 82.1% of ammonia, 7.2% of total phosphorus, 45.9% of SRP and 39.4% of nitrite, but was satisfactory. The functional group f, made up of Chlorophyceae Dictyosphaerium pulchellum and Kirchneriella lunaris, was the most representative in both systems, followed by functional group P and constituted by Zygnemaphyceae Melosira sp. The number of functional groups decreased in the outlet of the two treatment systems, where S1, H1 and W1, characteristic of eutrophic environment, were retained. Data show that CW and the Sf system are potentially applicable to the fish farm wastewater treatment and ensure an improvement in water quality.

We investigated the transport, thermal and magnetic properties of antiferromagnetic (TN = 45 K) Gd2InGe2. Magnetization measurements under applied magnetic field, oriented along different crystallographic directions, were used to extract the anisotropic magnetocaloric effect. We also measured magnetization under pulsed field up to 45 T. from the analysis of the electrical transport and magnetization, conduction band electrons were weakly coupled to Gd f-electron local moments. Differential scanning calorimeter data confirmed a second order phase of the antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic transition. The anisotropic magnetocaloric effect points to a model of magnetic ordering whereby Gd local moments couple ferromagnetically and antiferromagnetically perpendicular and parallel, respectively, to the c-axis.

This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of the extract of Libidibia ferrea L. (228.022-INPA) and a mouthwash formulation against microorganisms of the dental biofilm. The extract of Libidibia ferrea L. was prepared and formulated with an alcohol-free mouthwash. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration—MIC was determined by microdilution and cell viability was evaluated through fluorescence. The MICs for the extract were 4.375 μg/mL (Streptococcus mutans), 3.750 μg/mL (Streptococcus oralis), 4.375 μg/mL (Lactobacillus casei). In contrast, for the mouthwash, the MICs were 6.000 μg/mL (bacteriostatic against Streptococcus mutans and bactericidal against Streptococcus oralis). In 1.250 μg/mL of the extract, the number of viable cells measured by fluorescence tests was 16.47% and 14.12% for Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus casei, respectively. for the mouthwash (1.000 μg/mL), 20.60% of viable cells for Streptococcus mutans, and 9.60% for Lactobacillus casei were observed. It can be concluded that the extract and its mouthwash containig Libidibia ferrea L. showed antibacterial activity against microorganisms from the dental biofilm.

In this work, the use of computational methods was essential to distinguish the three possible isomeric structures of the [RuCl3(H2O)2(Gly)] molecule. The characterization of these molecules was performed using IR, NMR and UV-VIS simulations. Some calculations related to the optimization of structures and properties such as chemical hardness and dipole moment were also conducted. The fac-cis isomer presented promising data when compared to the experimental data, indicating that this is the likely experimentally synthesized isomer. This study demonstrates the technical utility of the computational calculations by virtue of situations that prevent the realization of X-ray diffraction.

Left-Handed Students and Clinical Practice in Dentistry: Adaptations, Difficulties and Realities Experienced in the Academic Environment

Objectives: To verify the existence of difficulties throughout the course of dentistry clinical practices, identify musculoskeletal pain, and evaluate frequency and intensity of pain/discomfort (if existent) in different regions of the body, experienced by left- handed students in comparison to right-handed students of the odontology courses of the state of Rio Grande do Norte (Northeast Brazil). Methods: A general questionnaire was applied to identify left-handed students in a population of 750 students, enrolled in clinical courses. An adaptation of the Grad-Corllet Diagram and a specific questionnaire on clinical practices were applied to the selected students. Descriptive statistics was utilized to analyze data of the specific questionnaire, and Mann-Whitney statistics, chi-square or fisher’s Exact tests (with a 5% significance level) were utilized for the Grad-Corllet Diagram, searching for an association be- tween discomfort/pain in different body regions and manual laterality. Results: All students presented higher percentage of pain in the lumbar and neck/cervical re- gions. However, left-handed students presented higher values, with statistical signifi- cance levels of p = 0.041 for lower back, p = 0.002 for neck and p = 0.003 for cervical region. Conclusions: The majority of left-handed students classified “moderate” the difficulty of working with equipment designed for right-handers. There was high frequency of musculoskeletal pain/discomfort, with relevant statistical results for left- handed students regarding intensity. It is suggested that the participating institutions evaluate the adoption of inclusion politics, re-adapt the infrastructure to include equipment designed for left-handers, and finally provide adequate work conditions for all students.

fluorescent Proteins(fP)can be applied as biomarkers and biosensors in the industrial and medical fields,but their large-scale use,especially for new industrial applications,is limited due to their low ***,the discovery of additives capable of preserving the activity of fP at room temperature and under stress conditions can help to expand and facilitate their commercial *** this goal,we evaluated the application of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride-based([C_(n)mim]Cl)ionic liquids(ILs)as additives to preserve the activity of Enhanced Green fluorescent Protein(EGfP)at different storage times and under unfavorable ***[C_(n)mim]Cl solutions(at 0.100 mol L^(-1))were able to preserve EGfP fluorescence for longer than the phosphatesaline buffer(PBS)and NaCl solutions,increasing its fluorescence manifestation from 1 to 3 months.[C_(n)mim]Cl with shorter to medium cationic alkyl chains were the most effective in preserving EGfP fluorescence.[C_(n)mim]Cl also protected EGfP activity in the presence of the surfactant SDS,the acid guanidine hydrochloride,and H_(2)O_(2).Therefore,[C_(n)mim]Cl can be added to aqueous solutions to preserve EGfP fluorescence activity at room temperature for longer storage times and to reduce the negative impact of denaturing agents on ***,there is a massive potential for the application of ILs as additives to preserve fP in the long-term without refrigeration and under unfavorable conditions,and this is fundamental to enable expansion of fP in industrial and commercial applications.

Surgical Outcome of Extradural Hematoma Patients in Relation to Preoperative Neurological Status

Introduction: Epidural hematoma (EDH) is characterized by the acute onset of traumatic haemorrhage into potential space between the dura mater and skull following head injury. About 85% of the epidural cases are caused by skull fracture with rupture of the middle meningeal artery or its branches and rest of 1the time ruptured venous sinuses, fractured diploic bone. The BTF recommends that all patients with an EDH volume of greater than 30 cc should undergo surgical evacuation regardless of Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). Aim of the Study: To assess the surgical outcome of extradural hematoma patients by using Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) postoperatively. Material & Methods: This prospective study was conducted in the Department of Neurosurgery, Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), during the period of January 2016 to December 2017. A total of 98 patients of both sex and any age with EDH were selected purposively. Statistical analyses were carried out by using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 22.0 for Windows (SPSS Inc., IBM and New York, USA). Prior to commencement of this study, the “Research Review Committee” & the “Ethical Committee” of DMCH, Dhaka, approved the research protocol.
