Nitroglycerine effects on portal vein mechanics and oxidative stress in portal hypertension

AIM:Тo examine the effects of nitroglycerine on portal vein haemodynamics and oxidative stress in patients with portal ***:Thirty healthy controls and 39 patients with clinically verified portal hypertension and increasedvascular resistance participated in the *** di-ameters,portal diameters and portal flow velocities were recorded using color flow imaging/pulsed Doppler ***-section area,portal flow and index of vascular resistance were *** collected blood samples,superoxide anion radical (O 2-),hydrogen per-oxide (H 2 O 2),index of lipid peroxidation (measured as TBARS) and nitric oxide (NO) as a marker of endothelial response (measured as nitrite-NO 2-) were ***-dependent analysis was performed at basal state and in 10th and 15th min after nitroglycerine (sublingual 0.5 mg) ***:Oxidative stress parameters changed sig-nificantly during the study.H 2 O 2 decreased at the end of study,probably via O 2-mediated disassembling in Haber Weiss and Fenton reaction;O 2-increased signifi-cantly probably due to increased diameter and tension and decreased shear rate *** O 2-and H 2 O 2 degradation products,like hydroxyl radical,initi-ated lipid *** blood flow was to some extent lower in patients than in controls due to double paradoxes,flow velocity decreased,shear rate decreased significantly indicating non Newtonian char-acteristics of portal blood ***:This pilot study could be a starting point for further investigation and possible implemen-tation of some antioxidants in the treatment of portal hypertension.

Process synthesis with simultaneous consideration of inherent safety-inherent risk footprint

Process plants should be designed to be economically viable and environmentally friendly, while also being operable and maintainable during process implementation. The safety of processes is among the most important considerations in obtaining results that are more acceptably realistic, as it is linked to the availability and reliability of the process. Inherent safety can effectively be enhanced in the early stages of the design, when the main decisions on process design are made. The aim of this study is to enhance and select the appropriate risk assessment method and to incorporate it into process synthesis, using a mathematical programming approach. A mixed-integer, nonlinear programming (MINLP) model was used for the synthesis of a methanol production process, considering risk assessment during the synthesis. Risk assessment is performed simultaneously with the MINLP process synthesis, where the risk is determined either for the whole process as overall risk, or on a per unit-of-a-product basis. For the latter, a new measurement is proposed: the inherent risk footprint. The results of a case study led to two main conclusions: (i) Significantly safer designs can be obtained at negligible economic expense, and (ii) at higher production capacities, a lower inherent risk footprint can be achieved. The results also indicate that designs obtained using this method can have significantly increased inherent safety, while remaining economically viable.

Heat Integration retrofit analysis --an oil refinery case study by Retrofit Tracing Grid Diagram

Heat Integration has been established over the last decades as a proven chemical engineering methodol- ogy. Two design implementations are often used in the industry： grassroots and retrofit. Although various methods have been developed for retrofit, it still needs more development to ensure simultaneously thermodynamic feasibility and economic viability. In this paper, a novel graphical approach has been developed to facilitate the understanding of the current situation and scope of improvement. The Retrofit Tracing Grid Diagram presents all streams and heat exchangers in temperature scale and the heat exchangers are clearly separated from each other, enabling clear visualisation of the current state. The tool incorporates the previously developed Cross-Pinch Analysis as well as path approach for retrofit. Additionally, the non-vertical heat transfer can be evaluated. The application of the developed tool has been validated on an oil refinery case study. The applicability of the tool is evident as it can reveal additional options for modification that none of the previous methods considered.

Reduced combustion time model for methane in gas turbine flow fields

Computational fluid dynamics （CFD） modeling of the complex processes that occur within the burner of a gas turbine engine has become a critical step in the design process. However, due to computer limitations, it is very difficult to completely couple the fluid mechanics solver with the full combustion chemistry. Therefore, simplified chemistry models are required, and the topic of this research was to provide reduced chemistry models for CH4/O2 gas turbine flow fields to be integrated into CFD codes for the simulation of flow fields of natural gas-fueled burners. The reduction procedure for the CH4/O2 model utilized a response modeling technique wherein the full mechanism was solved over a range of temperatures, pressures, and mixture ratios to establish the response of a particular variable, namely the chemical reaction time. The conditions covered were between 1000 and 2500 K for temperature, 0.1 and 2 for equivalence ratio in air, and 0.1 and 50 atm for pressure. The kinetic time models in the form of ignition time correlations are given in Arrhenius-type formulas as functions of equivalence ratio, temperature, and pressure; or fuel-to-air ratio, temperature, and pressure. A single ignition time model was obtained for the entire range of conditions, and separate models for the low-temperature and high-temperature regions as well as for fuel-lean and rich cases were also derived. Predictions using the reduced model were verified using results from the full mechanism and empirical correlations from experiments. The models are intended for （but not limited to） use in CFD codes for flow field simulations of gas turbine combustors in which initial conditions and degree of mixedness of the fuel and air are key factors in achieving stable and robust combustion processes and acceptable emission levels. BACKGROUND Aorto-esophageal fistula is an extremely rare cause of acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding(UGIB).CASE SUMMARY We present a case of an 80-year-old woman with esophageal cancer who was admitted to our department with hemorrhagic shock due to *** the diagnostic procedure,emergency computed tomography angiography was performed and confirmed aorto-esophageal *** radiologists inserted a stent graft into the aorta,successfully closing the ***,the patient later died of heart failure following irreversible hemorrhagic *** confirmed the aorto-esophageal fistula,which formed 1 cm below the distal edge of the stent previously inserted into the esophagus for a malignant *** There are very rare causes of *** clinical decisions are made during the diagnostic workup of these patients,we must be aware of the limitations of various therapeutic options,even the most contemporary.

Kinetic Parameters Determination Using Reaction Calorimetry： Study of Sodium Benzoate Synthesis

A modified systematic approach to determination of the kinetics of well known reaction from calorimetric data is addressed in this study. Because the application of calorimetry does not depend upon knowledge of concentration profiles, it has the advantage over other real-time analyses. Estimated kinetic parameters were compared with the ones obtained with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy （FTIR）. The chosen reaction was ethyl benzoate saponification performed in homogeneous reaction medium, although it is known as heterogeneous reaction. Thus, the rate expression was developed where no mass transfer is considered. The reaction was carried out in a MettlerTM RCI reaction calorimeter.

Room-temperature fabrication of functional ceramic films using powder aerosol deposition(AD)is important for practical ***,the as-processed ferroelectric films show unusual temperature-dependent dielectric response,including enhanced conductivity in the as-processed state and subsequent significant increase in the permittivity following heat *** this work,we investigate the influence of the residual internal stresses developed during the high-impact consolidation process on the dielectric ***,the recombination of charged defects generated during deposition is driven by the temperature and the atmospheric condition during the heat treatment as well as the carrier gas type used during *** treatment up to 500℃ in different atmospheres was used to tune the dielectric and ferroelectric response,highlighting that irrespective of the type of carrier gas,AD deposition process induces charged defects in polar oxide ceramics that can be reduced through heat-treatment far-below their bulk sintering *** electromechanical properties are contrasted to in-situ heating scanning transmission electron microscopy to observe possible local effects,such as crystallization,grain growth,crystal defect structure,or grain *** addition X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies were conducted to gain insight into the effect of annealing on the crystal structure and local moisture adsorption.

The article describes the approaches for a reliable,quantitative compositional analysis of lead-free perovskite ceramics in powder and bulk forms that contain volatile alkaline *** combination of scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and transmission electron microcopy(TEM)with electron-probe analytical techniques,such as energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),wavelength-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(WDS)and electron-energy-loss spectroscopy(EELS)makes it possible to determine the true chemical composition,from precursor powders to synthesized ceramics or single *** microscale(SEM)and nanoscale(TEM)analytical methods also give an insight into the local variations of the chemical composition.
